  • Tuning the Bstring has to bo done ever so slowly, like half turns at first and 1/4 turns to 1/8 turns the tighter the string gets. If you just turn it fast you will probably break it, since turning it slow will allow the B string time to stretch a little at a time as you tighten it. Good luck all you Goo Gotaurists. LMAO :-D

  • your better than the jamz play freaks!!

  • woooooooooooooho my string survived! <3

  • almost sounds like a mandolin in the beginning

  • @sirgreggins8824 that's cuz they used a mandolin in the song. :D

  • this helped me so much! this is my favorite song, and I've always wanted to know how to play it. thank you!!

  • Man this tab is awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My string didnt break up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : ) I tuned it as you said from the 1st string and that really helped for tuning without breaking it. Add more and more tabs like this.

Thanx bro. W're going to play this @ the school concert !!

  • Dude I really can't deal with alternate tuning maybe open G for some Stones songs but that's about it Like the previous posts I often break strings and I find this extremly frustrating because as we all know changing just one string does not work One must change all strings and I find this rather laborious do to my extreme laziness.I hope one day there will be a device into wich I can plug my guitar and choose wichever tuning I wish

  • you are noob

  • i can't find a normal tuning tutorial on this song!!!!

    please! help me find it!!

I don't want to retune my guitar just for one song =S

  • YOU R SO GOOD!

  • its B D D D D d

  • @JonasAdeline0107 nope drop d is

    DADGBE

  • omgeee :D Gorgeous :)

  • eres un penca pa la guitarra

y ademas ni siquiera la afinaste,no teni ni un brillo

  • pause at 12 secs his face looks priceless

  • Great song , and great tutorial..really.

But i dont have strings, its hot outside and i am not keen to go to the music shop.

    but still thanks :)

  • of to the music store to get new strings :(

  • its outta time when you play it like that, their are extra strums that are missed. and i feel it helps to tune the E to D and leave the A it'll give the chords during the strumming a better sound and only thing you need to do is play on the E instead of the A on everything.

  • can u post the strum pattern thx

  • lol, ur the only one i found that says "tune very slowly". and im glad u did. i cant imagine just turning the thing till it popes out and i lose an eye....thumbs up!

  • i need a new set of guitar strings, and i didnt wanna risk them getting snapped since youu have to tune them that high... so i jst tuned mine A,C,C,C,C,C and i put a capo on the 2nd fret. can i still play the sond the way you do? (:

  • I broke my low e string when i was playing a paramore song in drop d. I didnt know you were supposed to tune it slowly. But i started going slower when it was harder to turn the knob but i ended up breaking it. I have a first act guitar and it always goes out of tune.

  • i like it better when your in a good mood!!!

  • i fucking spend 1 whole day and 2 strings with beer just to complete this fucking song.. thanks dude..

  • Awesome ! thx..

  • if you guys keep breaking your g string and you have an extra set of strings you can replace the g string with another b string not much noticeable sound difference and no broken string just my 2 cents hope this helps

  • 4:28 lamo thanks alot man i finally learned this song after like 2 years of trying to find it thanks

  • is there a way to play this song in standard

  • dude you're amazing. marry me

  • great i broke 2 strings

  • Great video! Thanks! You're a good teacher. :)

  • totally irrelevant, you're adorable.

  • lmfao. i didn't break any!! unbelievable. it was like stretched out x]

  • thanks BUD PRECIATE IT MUCH.

  • haha my pinkie is numb all the time wat can i do lol

  • i'm scared cause i don't have more strings, i dont want to broke mine >>

  • 2:15 to 2:18..... that's what she said.

  • oh damn this vid's a string breaker... i broke 2

  • your G string lol

  • yup. definitley snapped my B string. took it slow, but i guess not slow enough. he's not kidding. go REALLY REALLY slow.

  • what i do first in tuning BDDDDD is i choose a tune for the 4th string if ithink its enough then i match the 5th string to the 4th string using the 12th fret!

  • make sure that the 5th string is already Tuned In D and you take it as a refernce

  • to make sure the 6th string was rightly tuned make the 5th string as a reference and make the 6th string same as 5th string on third fret that would be righteous

  • oops never mind lol

  • whats the tuning for this song i cant figure it out i have a copy its like all strings but one are d i dont really understand.

  • SNAP! :(

  • Would it be ok if I switch all the strings with D strings?

  • Nice Alvarez

  • my string broke cuz i'm a retard :D

  • @DumFrickProductions How the hell did this comment get 10 thumbs up?!?! hahahaha

  • @DumFrickProductions dude ur funny

  • Awesome I wish my acoustic was save to tune the 6th string to b, I wanna learn this.

  • Great tutorial! I looked up the ultimate-guitar tabs, too. Everything's very helpful. Plus you're cute.

  • Love your videos I have about 10 saved in my favorites. THANKS!

  • You know....there is something that not a lot of people notice about the tuning of this song is that there is only 5 STRINGS!! I have seen some videos where you see that the 1st string is missing on John's guitar.

  • love you

  • @BarcaBarca1992 come get me

  • it sounded really out of tune

  • damn! after all tis time!!!!!!!! TQ :))

  • I'm having some trouble with the strumming pattern. When I play it, it sounds different than yours. Any tips?

  • Hey, I think you offer two different strumming pattern for the intro. I think the first one is correct. Clarification? Thanks

  • lol i just broke my string

  • dude you frustrate me with what you do at the end of the intro..

  • this is the best tutorial

  • FUCK BROKE MY STRING TOO.

  • lol that sucks

  • yh Im always seeing this Tutorial videos but never understand it .xD

  • i like most of your other videos. but im having trouble understainding this one.

  • So did I!!!!

  • man I broke my string!!!!!!!! fuck!!!!!

  • FML. I DID TOO!

    WEIRD TUNING

  • lol that sucks

  • lol

  • maybe u guys already had it really tight before

i managed to do it and it didnt look like i was going to

  • Nah turns out I was tuning up the "d" string.....whoops lol

  • at the beginning I thought it was gonn be a bad lesson but once you tuned your bass E string again it all sounded sooo good : D

    Woohooo! THNX

  • Man, I just don't get this. I can't see where you're putting your finger at the intro. I don't hear to well either. Are you putting 3 fingers at the same string?

  • thanks im bad with english but i will try in your page

    very good played

  • hey dude can you cover songs from switchfoot awakening pls

  • great song thanks for posting, too much tuning for me though!

  • thanks man!

  • nailed the lesson dude so easy but one of the best sounding songs

  • maaaaaaaan your my favourite teacher !

  • im having trouble tuning my A string to D =(

  • tune it slowly using a tuner...i have has the same prob before

  • it would be a good idea to switch the A string with an E string

  • If you wanna save your strings or are scared of snapping your strings and if you happen have a capo, you could just tune from 1st string: C, C, C, C, C, A and add the capo to the first fret =]

  • people the reason you are breaking your strings is because you're tuning your guitars too fast. Tune your guitars for this song SLOWLY its very easy if you tune your guitar SLOWLY. I've never lost a string except for tuning my guitar from a step down to normal after playing "swing life away" by rise against...which is actually kinda weird now that i think about it O.o but anyway's the point is TUNE SLOWLY!!!!!!

  • since the B and the E are pretty much the same could you just buy two E strings for this tuning?

  • but than you have an individual guitar for one song? really worth that?

  • dope just snapped my G

  • i was about write a nasty comment about your e string being out of tune, but then u fekking tuned it 1 sec later :D nice lesson m8 :)

  • This is a good video lesson, but I have one thing to say. When you play this, it sounds like the song, but I think you are including the acoustic guitar and the bass guitar. I watched the video and there definitely is a bass guitar in there. And it sounds to me like you added the bass into your song. Because I have my suspicions that the Goo Goo Dolls did not drop tune there guitars like that. But, you never really know...

  • lol they do tune it like this BDDDDD (654321 strings from the one closest to your head) the goo goo dolls are notorious for tunning their guitars in weird ways....at least for this song and slide...not sure about the others but i wouldn't doubt it....

  • i took lessons over 15 years ago and just started messing around again.. I'm pretty close i just need to work on the strumming.. THanks.. pretty good lesson.. Its hard to see at times where the fingers are.. Try zooming in more..

  • I'm.. I'm afraid to play this since every comment on the first page is about people breaking their strings attempting int.... eeeeek!

  • haha i cant believe myself. i finally get the balls to try this song and i brake my G string (i shit you not!) because my dumb ass tuned it the wrong way. hahaha thankfully thats the only one i broke. this song is worth 10 G strings anyways!

  • lmao at the broken strings...

  • fank you dude i broke my guitar's string :D

  • man i really want to learn this song...but i'm too scared of breaking my strings

  • that was kinda hard.. cant see where his fi ngers quite are...

  • haha dude i broke three stings im jus gunna give this one a miss

  • I just broke my a string... how is that possible?

  • i did it you need a new string

  • I sugest to change your A string for a D string, so you have 2 D strings

  • you could do that if this is the only song you wanted to play on your guitar

  • I thought i was the only one XD :S

  • this is dead on except for the one part when it goes down to the 5th fret! it actually continues to go down from the end after the 4th string 4th fret it goes down to the 4th string 2nd fret then open on all! hope this helps

  • good deal, thanks buddy

  • Is it possible to play this with standard tuning?

  • Why not just tune it to the corect tuning?

  • not if you want it to sound like the original

  • i play it diffrently its some way my friend showed me it however im not positive if its correct because i never tuned it yet when i do i'll tell u if it soumds rite

  • I don't know but my strings keep going out of tune everytime I strum a few times.

  • yeah this is a tough tuning to reach, i suggest retuning your guitar after a couple minutes

  • Okay, just tuned it back. Gonna practice some more standard tuning songs. Thanks.

  • I got a question...what happens if you don't tune the strings right??? will the song sound different?

  • uh... you think?

  • yes but recognizable by the melody

  • the song will not be recognizable if the strings are out of tune

  • haha i hated tuning the B string for this song. I've broken so many strings in the past. So I just used a high E string for my B string and i haven't had a problem since.

  • haha thats a good idea! good advice!

  • seriously this stage4turbo guy is an idiot XD lol good job bro keep the music alive.

  • thanks buddy! glad you liked it

  • lol you got me, im just a noob and im doing it for all this money i get for giving free lessons

  • it was awesome and yes he is doing it for the money all the billions of dollars that you get from teaching free guitar lessons you dip shit

  • will it make a big difference in the sound if your guitar is tuned differently?

  • ohhh yes, a huge difference, this song is not one id recommend if you dont want to take a chance at breaking a string

  • instead of tuning the guitar

, it sounds almost the same if u put a capo on the 7h fret
