Galaxies was pretty amazing but by the after the combat upgrade and new game enhancements I had lost all interest. It never really measured up to what it was before them. And I tried the Old Republic it's a good game but it doesn't offer a substitute for what Galaxies had to offer in it's vanilla days.
SWG ended because the license SOE purchased from Lucas years ago was ending. And Lucas decided to sell it to SWTOR creators/owners (Bioware/EA) instead. So SWG could no longer run.
The only way to play SWG now is swgemu () com. Fortunatelly that one is still alive and well.
I have to admit that a piece of my heart died when swg died but ....wow, life goes on............... get over it...there is something called msn chat and yahoo to talk to friends....duh......
@DJCheezy gotta admit, it is much more scripted...hopefully they'll work something in at 50 so it isn't just...follow the script, but more create your own.
What people don't realize is that the people who wanted SWG to live on were were the people who didn't give a shit about TOR. Why? Because it's not what we grew up with. @kristian9010 problem not solved. Most of my friends are on different servers. People some people like to pvp some people like to pve. Some people live on the west coast, some on the east coast. Some had early access, some still havent purchased the game. There is no giant neon sign saying, "Everyone from SWG pick this server," And if her friend already arent playing i doubt theyre the type to stick to the game. I was with a 6 year old guild of mostly east coast players.
@kristian9010 The guild has fallen apart and the game isnt all that good anyhow. If it werent for the good npc dialog and story that bioware is known for i would consider this game a flop. In fact i would still be playing SWG if it was still out even though i lost 4 of my 9 account. 4 of which had my best players. I only had 1 good acount left after that and wasted my time rebuilding a jedi before the game shut down. But most people already are on SWTOR and wont change servers.
@kristian9010 My point is that i have tons of friends from SWG, and at least 2 or 3 big guilds i could have gone with. Ive tried out multiple servers and have had very little contact with anyone i know. Because of this and the lack of customization and lack of obtainable items at an early stage in the game, i dont think i will be playing this game much longer. I might try hitting max level but it doesnt seem like it will be worth it at all.
SWG shutting down was the best news, in my opinion. Once NGE hit, shit went haywire. I've been playing since launch and "tried" to stay in NGE, so I know what I'm talking about. What people don't realize is that the people who wanted SWG to live on were were the people who didn't give a shit about TOR. Why? Because it's not what we grew up with. We aren't looking for a new MMO to play. We want to play in the Star Wars universe that we've lived with for the past 5, 8, or even 20 years, not some completely foreign world with some of the old labels slapped on them.

Thank god i can officially say the end of SWG was not the worst news of my life. Lets see my dad almost died, my grand mother passed away, a friend in SWG passed away, i broke my arm.... i think all those top the end of SWG. Although i might break my arm to play SWG again, but only if there was no SWTOR and all my friend were still playing SWG... not gonna happen. I could go on if you guys would like lol

Don't trip over all the people who don't understand. I played SWG since the first week of launch. By the time GCW was introduced I had 9 accounts, 1 being an elder Jedi account with 3 toons. I've made best friends, relationships of different kinds, and even had a memorial for the death of one of my best friends. I've attended weddings & even seen marriages fall apart. I even had an alcoholic friend ruin his life over this game. Some ppl will never understand, but SWG will b a part of me for the

I would feel ALMOST the same way about Final Fantasy XI if it shut down. Especially since Final Fantasy XIV is a big fat fail so far. (the game, not the music) there would be nowhere for all the FFXI fans to go if it shut down. I've been playing that game for 8 years now and I have more than 4 years of total game play time xD sad I know.
I feel for you but the old republic is really good and you should give it a chance. :)
Also play KOTOR 1&2 and you may change your mind about it.

@kristian9010 problem not solved. Most of my friends are on different servers. People some people like to pvp some people like to pve. Some people live on the west coast, some on the east coast. Some had early access, some still havent purchased the game. There is no giant neon sign saying, "Everyone from SWG pick this server," And if her friend already arent playing i doubt theyre the type to stick to the game. I was with a 6 year old guild of mostly east coast players.

@kristian9010 The guild has fallen apart and the game isnt all that good anyhow. If it werent for the good npc dialog and story that bioware is known for i would consider this game a flop. In fact i would still be playing SWG if it was still out even though i lost 4 of my 9 account. 4 of which had my best players. I only had 1 good acount left after that and wasted my time rebuilding a jedi before the game shut down. But most people already are on SWTOR and wont change servers.

@kristian9010 My point is that i have tons of friends from SWG, and at least 2 or 3 big guilds i could have gone with. Ive tried out multiple servers and have had very little contact with anyone i know. Because of this and the lack of customization and lack of obtainable items at an early stage in the game, i dont think i will be playing this game much longer. I might try hitting max level but it doesnt seem like it will be worth it at all.

SWG shutting down was the best news, in my opinion. Once NGE hit, shit went haywire. I've been playing since launch and "tried" to stay in NGE, so I know what I'm talking about. How are you going to curse BioWare??? It's time for the next generation Star Wars MMO to take place -- SWTOR. Get used to it, SWG is gone. If you want it, go EMU -- otherwise SHUT THE FUCK UP.

@orrka97 EMU doesnt have all your old friends, it also isnt in the NGE, which imo was a lot of fun and better than SWTOR. You just never gave the NGE a chance, and i pity that. You missed out on some awesome times. SWG is over, but i as many other people will remember it for the rest of their lives. As for SWTOR i cant say i see the same happening. No one wants to flock to a new game, you did because u didnt have a game to enjoy. Those of us that did, got screwed.

I know how you feel. Two or three days ago I made a comment telling you that you would just get over it. But then I thought about how I would feel if they all of the sudden shut down Wizard 101. I have been playing that game for years and I have worked on my character so much! I spent money on that game and made so many good friends that I would not want to lose. I would be devastated if it all of the sudden shut down. So I know how you feel. I will miss SWG too.

I know how you feel. I am a huge gamer. When you get that attached to something, it fucking sucks when it goes away. It is okay though, you can get The Old Republic and start all over again and make more friends and have new experiences. :)
