I don't think you'd ever want to tangle with a bunch of Tommys, Canucks and, Yanks... Many a good mothers son laid down to the eternal sleep. May god keep them. And for those of you who still fight this battle with your keyboards... Sleep in Freedom.
Thank You allied soldiers of WW2 no matter what your nationality you won the war not these sad little kids on youtube. you guys have my utmost respect if only people these days had the same decency and respect as you guys and gals.
From a 37 year old english man in reponsce the Ray Tollefson at 2.58 i would like to say without you and your pals that fought that day i would not have my two chilldren and a free life , god bless you sir and all your pals , My great grandad fell on sword beach that day and every year we honer him and our americain brothers in arms .
I remember when I was about 10 or so, I seemed to have made some unqualified joke about Canada being a smaller and in my ignorance, a lesser nation. My Grandfather, who survived D-Day as a paratrooper who jumped in before the invasion hours back handed me (hit in the head), and was given a stern lesson about great men. I thought my grandfather was a hero too, but he informed me that the heroes stayed in Normandy that day.
Great video and thanks for uploading. But one huge unanswered question: where on earth did all the naval shells and aerial bombs land? There could not have been "nothing but fire" if they all landed in the Channel. The German forces overlooking Omaha Beach were virtually untouched. The bombs/shells had to have landed just inland...? This film fails to answer a big question it asks.
@beavis408 The Naval bombardment was severely inadequate, and far too small in size. In comparison to the size of the naval bombardments in the pacific it was a complete joke. There was only one battleship at omaha beach, two cruisers, and six destroyers. In fact, Rear Admiral John L Hall who was commander of that particular Task Force said, “It's a crime to send me on the biggest amphibious attack in history with such inadequate naval gunfire support”....
@beavis408 As for the aerial bombardment that was a story in itself. The Americans prided themselves in accuracy, but the weather on D-Day was poor, and because of that so was the visibility, as a result they feared hitting the troops that were supposed toland. This led to the bomber crews waiting far too long with the dropping of bombs(the same conditions factored into the disastrous dropping of the paratroopers) All bombs landed behind enemy lines, upto 17kilometers behind the beaches in fact.
I'm half American half English so got alot to be proud of (and thankful for) to my older generation. Much respect to all those that fought and died, and respect to the brave Canadians.
Bravery beyond comprehension and belief. I thank all WWII veterans for their service. Not one of us would be here today without your courage and efforts put forth on D-Day, June 6, 1944. You stamped out Nazism and gave back freedom to the people of North Africa, Europe and beyond. No words can express our eternal gratitude.
Good documentary... so at then end, they 'erected' a "monument" (phallus) to commemorate "one small unit" within a "huge American Canadian British force..." Bravo boys! Bravo!
i agree with haggis they should of had a german prospective of events.im sure there must of been a list of P.O.W's they could of use to track down atleast one of them
@TheStgmp44 WAR is never a good solution to solve problems.R.I.P for all humans on both side from this WW2.please never let this happening again.and i am German proud to be and i have nothing to do with crazy Nazis i hate them
@TheHockeyfreak1964 well if you are German you should know that most of the soldiers in Normandy where not nazis.it was the career soldiers who signed up prior to the war and conscripted men who where just following orders.the SS on the other hand where there doing it because they believed in the cause.but please remember that Germany where not doing anything that the British had not done or tryed before( empire, concentration camps, slavery ect) the Americans are trying it know in the middle east
@TheStgmp44 Ahhhh.... no. All this German bullshit of "it wasn't us! It was the Nazis!" is fucking sickening. Face the fact that your nation brought death and destruction to the whole of Europe. While nobody blames any German today, don't try to pretend "they were just following orders" is any kind of excuse. It is precisely that servile attitude that saw fascism rise in Germany. The Wehrmacht enabled the SS and the Gestapo to exterminate innocent civilians. Fact.
@HairyBogTrotter so are you telling me that if you where a conscript soldier and didnt agree with the orders given to you,you would disobey the orders and put not only your life on the line, but also that of your family ? just look at what happened in Berlin near the end of the war, with deserting soldiers being hunted down and hung in the streets.it was fear that made the conscripts fight, why do you think so many nations joined them.it was done to protect there familys from the camps/starvation
This is the first time I have watch this I want to say thank you Jerry for posting this video. My Dad was in the first wave that hit Omaha Beach by the grace of God he made it off the beach he was later wounded at St.Lo by a German Tiger tank.
Excellent documentary. War is hell it has been said and the men of Normandy Beach had their hell. We who were not there can try to imagine what they went through but we will never know in this life. I salute all those who went and fought for their way of life. Their sacrifice secured my freedom. Thanks men.
@everythingmotors@hairypolack Nevermind the word search; there's a video response detailing how it was done. Three men made most of the beach footage.
Brilliant documentary. Thanks for the upload; I've been wanting to rewatch for ages. This makes me grateful and extremely respectful for the sacrifices of all those who fought in WW2 - both allied and axis - whichever side they were on, no-one deserves to experience this kind of slaughter. RIP to all those brave men.
R.I.P To all the soldiers to died at Normandy and many other fronts during the second world war. Even the German soldiers should never be forgotten R.I.P

A very good documentary..I realy enjoyed it. But there is just one thing I was missing...where are interviews with former german soldiers at omaha beach. I think that would have been important for a better optical view.
@Haggis0410 western allies don't show any German Intel or their side of the story, because if they do they will reveal the truth of that moment that battle happened, western allies (especially the US) they hide facts and launch their propaganda, thee got be smart people to search the top secret documents to show the people the truth, as of the first US bombing of Japan's home land, they used B-25 Mitchell and launched propaganda that all pilots landed safe in china, but the fact they were dead!
@Haggis0410 that would have been neet, but (not sure when this was made) we are now 60 years past d-day, i don't think that there are many german soldiers still alive that were at Omaha beach.
@Haggis0410 Because of the Warsaw treaty even today they would have been tried as criminals and sentenced to die in prison. There was an example of a Nazi officer here in Kentucky that was found many years later and was going to be arrested but he was an idiot to the very end and got killed by the police in front of his doorstep...Nazi to the very end...very dead!
Maybe paratroopers should have been dropped behind Omaha beach. They caused alot of mayhem and disrpution behind Utah Beach and that beach was a walkover.
I wish the headstones would have a photograph of each one of these men who died. The white headstones almost sanitise the effect of the casualties as it can take a real leap of interest or imagination to appreciate each headstone was a unique individual.
Nobody ever remembers the germans that had to fight and got killed.
