  • I have 4 Niger colonies and find it is easier viewing them in red light. Natural light can cause the Queen to destroy her brood due to the fact she believes she may need to relocate. My colonies are from naturally caught and reared Queens. I kept them in small meat paste Jars and was fortunate to have Queens chambers situated next to the glass.

Myrmica species can have numerous Queens. Most I counted was 15.

  • @thefatguy303 ok you know when you see flying ants they m8 wiv qween she stores spurm in pockets in side he then at a later stage in her final year or so she willallow the spurm to make a pure female ant qween (she controls when to give birth to qween ant

  • nickname her rosie o donnel

  • @thefatguy303 im not sure about any lasius spieces but im pritty sure that myrimca spieces have more than one queen so the colony can keep on going

  • "i got all the stuff from antstore"

    is this a site?

can you send me the link?

  • @mrsupermega use google ..

  • dude their scared of light because the light is hurting them

  • @DanishnSonic no there not use to the light if it would be hurting them why would you see them wondering around out side

  • @antboy888 Idiot, queens become photosensitive after becoming pregnant. too much light stresses them out. This is why most ant websites recommend you cover the sides of the glass with a dark material when not viewing.

  • @DawnCaster oi im not an idoit i just something wrong

  • when i saw this in my recommendations i thought it was a missing 'g' nigger

  • is that the kind of ant you find when you digging for worms in leaves?

  • @pieateu yep

  • I like to put other species pupas in my colony, so now I got all kind of ants in my colony.

Also, when I just started, instead of waiting for the eggs to hatch, I catch pupas in the wild and gave em to the queen, she took care of them like they were her own, and now they are starting to hatch, 7 weeks before the orginal eggs will.

    Just a tip

  • @stonechater does that worker when u get pupa from other species and put them into a different spieces nest and they look after them cos that normally does nt work

yer that idea is called brood boosting

  • @antboy888

It works with Flavus & Niger, not sure with other species though. Niger didnt accept Murmica Rubra larvaes.

    Yes, brood boosting

  • i got an ant farm with honey pots ants because i capture a queen in nuptial flight(mating season) their like the same size as lasius niger or can be called as sugar ant

  • Nice ants. I like your ant farm. :)

  • animalloverabs check out the vid (how to make a ant nest) its made buy a guy that shows a lot of detail its great its made by a guy named (FSMDUDE)

  • i just got a starter kit

  • lol nice

  • That's nice!

Last day , i was on my first ant hunting.

I've found 2 lasius niger queens!

But the 2'nd one i found close an ant nest with red ants(little ones) . I dont think that is lasius niger. But well found out!

  • lasius flavus, they are pretty much the same but quite a bit smaller and they prefer to hunt underground in the darkness and rarely come to the surface unless food is short. the queen should have a tint of red on her belly

  • I thought this was about a lazy nigger???

I guess, the queen is black(negro) and lazy, having all her daugthers do the labor for her :-D

  • "I guess, the queen is black(negro) and lazy"

lol like whites (albinos) are any less lazy...

  • yep

  • lasius niger have no soldiers

    peidole pallidula have soldiers :-)

  • soilders have bigger heads and are normally biger then the workers

  • just a question what do the soldiers look like are do they look the same as the workers

  • Dude, your like obsessed with ants.. but thats pretty cool I guess lol

  • lol i never new there are so many people wanting to know about keeping ants lol

  • soz died and pllzzz subsribe

    ill subscribe to u

  • i used loam sand its really good for ants and i robbed a never nest and they came out as male and workers and they were fine,it does work(the males dead they were taking all the food for them self o and i kill some of them)

  • lots of them, emmmmm about 50 workers i will put a never vid on soon and tell me wat u wanna see in my vids

  • nice video, how many workers do you think you have now?

  • what subtrate did you use in your nest? Is it regular playground sand? I have a queen and a 50+ workers(she didn't lay the eggs, i robbed another colony). I want to use silica sand because it is verry white but it won't stay together when it is even a little bit dry. Any suggestions?

  • you could use sand and loam, you can get that from Antstore

  • i think so yeah but you could lift it up very day for 5 secs or two

  • it can kill her*

  • i thought that after i certain time in darkness the queen gets photosensitive and i can kill her

  • feed your ants 4 times a week and remove the left overs in two days, feed your ants honey water and small insects but when your colony gets bigger feed them bigger food like house flys and stuff.

  • move the queen into a better farm,(a realy good place is antstore if u wanna by a farm)if the queen does not lay eggs in about 3 weeks or so it probly wont lay any more eggs.

my colony is now gone crazy!!!

  • can someone send me a message in how to make a ant colony ( from the really beggining). and how often i should put there food and everything like that...

  • nice, ive liked ants all my life nad about 1 year ago i got my first real queen ant,(lasius niger),but the ytong got over run by dust mites and they eat the eggs and i dident realize, not its too late, all the workers have died from old age and the queen is allone, im not to sure what to do, im hoping it will lay eggs fast, its only in a small collecting pot with water and food. eny ideas? thanks

  • she run off because of the light the queens are normally deep down in the nest
