I have a phobia of being stuck by a hypodermic needle anywhere except my mouth. I don't know why, but getting injections in my mouth don't bother me in the least. If I have to get and injection anywhere else, I'm reading to fight my way out of the room. I'm afraid I may get charged with assault for losing my nerve and beating up a doctor about to give me a vaccine one day... not that I hate doctors. I'm just terrorified of those needles.
The reasons why people would be afraid of leaving the house would be because =1/ They're afraid of having a panic attack in public and how people will judge them.2/Maybe they have been bullied and thus they're afraid that if they go out they will be bullied and thus there way of coping is isolating thereselves away from people wherein they feel relaxed at ease, etc.Theres numerous reasons why someone might develop a fear of leaving the security of there own surroundings.
I have Emetophobia, an irrtional fear of vomit. If I see some one puke or start gagging and burping then i start sweating, my heart races, i cant breathe properly and i start to cry.
i know exactly how you feel.I have exactly the same phobia had it since i was a kid and when its particularily bad i get afraid to eat because i relate eating to vomiting and vomiting to dying! Its absolutely irrational but as you know yourself its actually terrifying and the fear itself is actually worse than the thing your afraid of.
@cassandraashley I have the same thing. You know what my therapist said to overcome it?? He gave me "vomit videos" where I had to watch people vomiting over and over again... To tell you the truth I couldn't watch them, but over the years my fear has subsided slightly, especially when it comes to non-real vomiting (like in movies or something) but I still absolutely freak when someone throws up in real life.
i have Dysmorphophobia, which is the fear of deformity. I cant stand people who have deformities, i dont hate them or think they are stupid or anything they just scare me. In one of my study halls my friend Phillip always crosses his arms and walks pigeon toad towards me saying my name in a weird voice and it makes me cringe. One he snuck up behind me and grabbed my arm and cried my name and i screamed and ran out into the hall. If i became deformed i would kill myself, no lie, its to scary
I'm not afraid of communicating over the phone, but I have a real problem with it. My heart will race and I can barely speak. I don't mind if it's people I talk to often, like parents or sisters, but I find myself avoiding my phone completely if it's ringing and I don't know who's on the phone or if it's someone I don't speak to often enough. I also don't like to call helplines, businesses, etc. I get other people to do it. That's a phobia, right?
i also have a phobia of feet, i wont touch my own, or anyone elses .. my phobia isnt so bad that my health is suffering, i just hate them so much ! :( x
in january i fell off a ladder backwards, i now have a phobia or heights, ladders and i fell off just above the stairs(top of landing) .. so i hate that area. i have flashbacks of the amount of pain i was in :( .. i have also had bad experiences with stairs, i have collapsed down them because of migranes and i have fell down them and sprained my ankle. i have a phobia of spiders which i be sick and cant breathe and i am petrified of snakes, just because they creep me out. x
The reason why you have a phobia of heights, ladders, etc is because you relate them to bad experiences and thus you think that whenever you come into contact with heights or ladders or whatever that something bads going to happen and thus is makes you feel very anxious if your around those things your afraid of.The best thing to do is try and think of some good experinces you have had around heights, ladders, etc no matter how silly it seems and its very likely your phobia/phobias will disappear.
I'm really sorry to hear that....Have you seen anyone about it? Because if you don't face/solve it before it really takes hold, it may ruin your life. No phobia should get to the point where that happens. And I'm sure your friends and family would support you all the way. Honestly, theres nothing to worry about.
