I bought this for £3 in the so called Horror section in HMV. it was the only film worthy of being there amongst all the other shit like Shrooms, and The Strangers, The Hills Have Eyes (remake) etc. It shows you how crap the majority of filmmakers are when you have to go back to 1981 to watch a film as great as this with a good combination of story and the right amount of effects in the right places. Long live the new flesh!

Well, everybody deserves a chance. Like that guy in Planet Terror who runs the Go-Go bar... he's not a professional actor, he's the director's realtor! And he does a good job, I think.

Anyway, I agree that Stephen Lack is a crappy actor, but his character is, after all, a generic goody-two-shoes hero type, so it kind of fits. And I'm sure you'll agree that Michael Ironside and Patrick McGoohan more than make up for his crappy performance.

Everybody certainly deserves a chance... good performances can really come from anybody, whether they are a "serious actor" or not.

The rest of the acting in Scanners was definitely leaps and bounds above Stephen Lack. I understand that the budget probably didn't allow them to hire a big star, but Lack's performance makes me thing Cronenberg hired him without a screen test. Maybe they're good friends? I dunno. All I know is that Lack certainly lives up to his name in the acting department.

It's believed that at the end Cameron managed to forcibly switch minds with Revok, leaving Revok in his mutilated body which was then destroyed and Cameron in Revok's. That's why Revok has Cameron's eye color and a changed voice after the duel is over.

Those effects are well done...on a shoe string using primitive techniques.

Just the sight of blood oozing up is alot scarrier then an expensive CGI ripple effect that we know is a computer effect. I always liked this film but looking back at craftsmanship on the low budget , Im amazed

Scanners is a bit of a classic , you miss out on the suspense of the film because the bad guy has blown up a guys head in first part of the movie, so at 0:50 your waiting for the hero to splatter. The bad guy by the time of the showdown has been built up to point figure the hero shouldnt go anywhere near him !

I agree with you, it is way more entertaining to see these well elaborated and genuine "hand made" 80 's special effects . But I think for being 1981 the sequence between 1:37 and 1:48 is simply amazing,it looks so real and is not crappy at all for those days. It scares me more than nowadays computer digital sfx, and sure this movie made me shit my pants back then, holy shit it was scary !!, Freddie Krugger was another guy that scared the shit 'outta me.

All I could remember were people running out of the show and a couple of people vomiting, the movie was not over yet!
