you would be surprised. We had some 7yo ewes join the herd for the first time last year half way thru lactation, and they settled down quite well. The maddest one still jumps a bit but is ok. Just tie them up with a collar, and wedge them in an acute corner of 2 gates.
We've got some in-lamb east friesians 2-tooths that are due to lamb soon. They are 'wild' madams. I don't think soaked barley and lucerne chaff will be enough. Do you know how to make a cosh? :)
