LOL! Hey all you conspiracy theorists, tell me how the poor 7-year-old from Lorca got wind of Rubira's Estudio from South America! When you're done, you can dream up an explanation of why Yepes would lie this late in his career about authorship.
So, Simon; Is the author of the cylinder's "Estudio" Rubira? But you said "first published in 1913" whereas you say the cylinder is from 1897-1903. Explanation?
Tell me you didn't create your channel to troll my vid with your anti-Yepes agenda!
The work was already published before Yepes was even born. And yes: I do mean PUBLISHED... (not some odd manuscript)!!
It was first published as "Estudio para Guitarra" de Rovira by J.A. MEDINA e HIJO in Argentina in 1913; or with complete certainty before 1925. It also appears in the method of Mascaro Reissig (published in Montevideo in 1919), on page 14, with the title "Conocido por Estudio de Rovira". And it appears in the method of Osvaldo Soares (published in 1929 in Brazil).
Details can be found (amongst other sources, including the original mentioned publications) in Francisco Herrera's "Enciclopedia de la Guitarra" and the writing of Isaías Sávio in "Violão e Mestres" (June 1966, São Paulo, Brazil).
Jack Silver from the Doremi record label, has just recently confirmed that the work "Estudio para guitarra" on one of the cylinders (from the "Viuda de Aramburo" label) featuring guitarists Luis and Ramon Ramirez, made in Madrid sometime between 1897-1901 is none other than... "Romance"!
@ggirino What a pity that Santiago Alvarez was unaware of the existence of the radio interview heard in this video: It would be very interesting to see how he would try to dismiss it. How unfortunate that Yepes left the door open to the kind of speculation and disinformation that is evident in Alvarez's article.
Alvarez claims there is evidence to suggest that the romance existed before Yepes but rightly concludes that the evidence in question is not solid.
@naive505 the movie is called "Forbidden Games", "Juegos prohibidos" in Spanish and "Jeux interdits" in french...this movie is sad and cute with this song wonderful "romance anonimo"....
Good question; as far as I know, of all the top players, only C. Parkingson played this Romance, and a different arrangement at that. The same is true of A Lagoya who created an arrangement for guitar and orchestra.
Yepes imposed this melody on a whole generation with Forbidden Games; before then, it was not well known (despite having been used by Vicente Gomez in the film "Blood and Sand"), and was not in the classical guitar repertory, so no wonder Segovia never recorded it.
Wow... how amazing is this interview, How is that is not more known? How is that it is still called Romance anónimo? And how is that so much other people pretends to be the composer? What have they shown to prove it?? Thanks for posting!!
Yes, how drole. You've managed to dig up something that nutcase, whathisname? Natanyu Orphée or some such... Maybe you have it on the tip of your tongue?! So what's he got to do with the Romance? Has he dared pronounce upon it? He's a pretty outspoken off'beat eccentric and unimportant kind of critic; like most of those who don't like Yepes.
You have a right to your opinion, but what is "sure" is that people are "unlikely" to believe the sincerety of an anonymous troll in his sad and futile attempt to discredit Yepes and to call him a liar! The fact is, Yepes was controversial from the beginning; at the time of this interview he was at the height of his career, his popularity still growing.
Let us hope composers hear things when they are small.
You obviously know nothing about the man; your commentary = epic fail
Wow, that went south real fast! I was polite - what's your problem? What's your interest in this other than trolling my video? Would you say the same things to a member of the maestro's family? Can you accept I might be closer to this and know things you don't? Did you look at my channel?
Thanks for expressing a little appreciation along with so much disrespect. I respect your opinion but I do contest it and invite you to present any proof to support it. 8 artists total? If you took the time to consult the description, you'd see the names of over thirty offical pretenders. It is also attributed to Fernando Sor (Melodia) as allegedly attested by an unpublished manusript in someone's private collection, never seen by expert eyes, and is not mentioned in any catalogue on Sor.
I took it there first? Quote me if I'm wrong, but I never 'trashed' your opinion; I said it was subjective and perhaps ill-informed... you call that trashing? No, the trash came from you. Judging from the other commentaries visible on your channel, that is your style. But fair enough, we will agree to disagree.
No matter who holds the authorship of this piece, the best variation of this is definitely Nguyen The An's: watch?v=APuurr1xKpQ&feature=related

For those who understand Spanish, here is an excellent article:

Fact is, nothing solid exists.

Many thanks for this wonderful video! A beautiful secret revealed. Narciso Yepes composed the piece in 1934 when he was 7 years old.
