If anyone is in need of a solo worship session, I encourage you to make a playlist, put this song on there several times, turn off the monitor, get on your knees and talk with your Father, sit quietly and listen to Him, or sing out to Him.
I love it. These guys pour their hearts into their worship, it's pure and honest. No need for big bands, flashing lights or smoke machines. THIS IS WORSHIP.
Shane's guitar sounds so much better now that he's playing a Breedlove with the LR Baggs dual element through the Avalon U5. I am not big on Taylor guitars anyway but a Taylor with a pizo p/u sounds terrible.
i heard a recording of this song by hillsong united or youth alive or something a while back, it was like twice as fast, and i am lyk 'lol wut' the whole time, because the words didn't match the music, tempo wise.
When Shane and Shane have just their guitars without a full band, it creates an amazing worship experience. Just the raw passion is so deep and rich and fulfilling
I just can't stop listening to this. It's amazing how they're not just awesome singers, but they are true worshippers and they really know their stuff. Very unlike some artists who are just there with a pretty face and a voice.
Long or short, played fast or slow, played 4 times or 10 times it doesn't matter because it's being played for God and not for us. We don't sing praise and worship so that we get something out of it, we sing praise and worship to glorify God. I've been listening to Shane Bernard play back when he was with Shane and Kaleb (one of his first bands). And one thing I can tell you is that Shane loves to worship and he loves to get into his playing. He has a very slow and powerful style.
Shane & Shane did drag this song out. Their famous for that! haha However I think if we were in that place during that time and were part of that worship we would not think the same. I'm sure God was moving in that place and I know that I have been part of worship bands at camps and it seems like you can go on and on with a song and it never get old. it just begins to resonant and become words and music that are sincerely from the heart!
This song has 2 verses and a chorus, there's no way it should be made to last 9 minutes. They play the whole song about 4 times before he even begins to speak, then after 2 minutes of what is honest, heart-felt speak they go and sing through again. With very little musical variation throughout.
As a musician and a Christian, this is what I call 'milking it syndrome'.
Feel free to discus this matter, even put the idea down, I'd rather you guys talk about it than just think I'm being a jerk.
ok..so i think there's beauty in just repeating something over and over...cuz sometimes that's what we need to really feel it...for example...just the one phrase in the song : "i want to hear your voice"...
maybe the first time you say it for the sake of saying it...but it doesn't hold any meaning.
so you repeat it to understand it. to really understand what it means to hear his voice...his soft voice that whispers the sweetest things in our ears..like how we're saved from the pangs of death and how he loves us...
if you repeat it again, you realize that his voice is not just a soft whisper, but also a loud thunderous noise that causes all the earth to fall and tremble when they hear it...
repeat it again and you start to dwell on it and realize how unworthy we are to hear that glorious and holy voice, or how great it would be to here him say "my child well done..come into my kingdom.."....you keep repeating the phrase until finally enters your heart (not just your mind - understanding)..but really enters your soul to bring out that inner longing to hear his voice..
so yeah!
(sry about this being so long...but that's my 2 cents!...ok so maybe it's more like 5...lol) :D
I don't know about you, but if I am worshipping the Lord to a wonderful song like this, I can praise Him for more than 9 minutes. I didn't know there was a time limit on having personal time with the Father, and I love to hear that Taylor ring! :D
it depends.. sometimes, it works, other times, it doesn't.. i think "milking" works in this case :)...
I think at my church, we've sung one song for 30 minutes straight.. (i was playing the piano and leading praise too).. and it was crazy (in a good way).. my fingers hurt at the end, but still, good :)
it wasnt for worshiptime.. well i guess it is :P but it wasn't during normal sunday hours, but a "prayer night" sort of thing.. lol normally sunday worship time is around 30 min for us too.. haha
Its "praise" & "worship" not MUSIC there are no rules when it comes to worship God was using his obedience to speak to that audience. So many people are held back by these "rules" of verse, chorus, bridge or this way or that and miss the very essence of what the music was created for and that is PRAISE and WORSHIP which is exaclty what he was doing. and it was AWESOME totally blessed me today glad i watched it again!
The last thing worship is about is the music. Music is only an expression of the heart to tell God how we love Him. Having said that I totally know what you mean by "milking" a song. I've heard people do that over and over again. The difference is those milking a song are focused on the music not on the Spirit. These guys are following the Spirit.
if you're a Christian, which i totally believe you are, you should focus on the words and the worship of the Lord, since he's the whole point of that whole concert anyways. just in case you didn't notice, and i'm not trying to be mean, just pointing this out, God made just about everything ever in the entire universe, and He loves us and his son died for us, He's prolly worth praising for 9 minutes, even if it is the same song. you know?
Matthew 7:1-2 "Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again."
Stop assuming that you know Shane and Shane's hearts, and stop jumping to some radical, ridiculous conclusion that they're doing it for themselves; all YOU'RE doing is raising yourself up on a nice pedestal about you having 10 guitars for God's glory.
I have a takamine, and my friend uses a souped-up l'arive ( i think thats what it's called?). I sugges not to get a takamine, well the one I have that is. try looking for a guitar where the strings are more apart than the takamine. Or better fret board =X. But the strings really make any guitar sound good.
hahha, it's kinda bumped up. This has been my first guitar and haven't changed it since. If I ever change guitars I'll def. keep you in mind =). Takamines aren't too expensive, I got mine for 200 beans and it's pretty decent!

usually what people mean by this is "REAL" Christian music... is they are doing what they're doing for God's glory, NOT their own...
the thing i wonder is why he has so many EXPENSIVE guitars, he must be making A LOT of money and he definitely doesn't NEED that many guitars.
redking15ca 4 years ago
God's blessed him with these things, I dunno WHY he needs that many guitars but as long as he's glorifying God through songs it's fine by God =).
