I don't think that this term is valid in almost any situation because it implies that a person influences another person to hold the incorrect or invalid opinion, but considering that opinion and mentality is relative to one's surroundings and influences in the first place, there can be no such thing as brainwashing. Opinion is mostly based on the experience and reaction of ones peers and as a result is biased.
