If you think Lou reed got the words wrong your clearly not a velvet underground fan. Lou is all about being raw and in the moment. Most of there songs you can find different versions of released on different albums of theirs. This is clearly is his version for that day with what feelings he had at that moment, a much less poppy version than the original, but ALL Lou
Lou sings as he feels it a that moment.. no 2 versions will ever be the same.. some times faster, sometimes slower... words may change, but its what was in his heart that day
@mollkatles I think he purposely got the words wrong dude. You know how many fucking times he has done this song live. I am pretty sure he knows the words to this song better than he knows himself. A lot of bands do several versions of particular songs, especially their biggest hits.
i love how he sings it differently from the original...... it just to show that the song and lou has evolved throughout the years. man, i can't still believe this was aired 12 years ago, i remember seeing it on TV at the time and was mesmerized by the performance.

Man, sorry, but I really DIDN'T like this version... maybe there's something to know about this performance that I'm not aware of, but his singing looks worse than a bunch of really amateur videos posted on YouTube. I liked the instrumental though.
Lou Reed has allways had an ability to construct beautiful melody lines. He has reached in his later years a kind of inner harmony. I liked much his film "Lou Reed's Berlin".
I don't think I have EVER heard a bad version of this song, no matter what instrumentation is used or what tempo or style it is played in. A truly great song.
Agreed, Lou was the genius leader and writer for the Velvets, but we really need to thank Sterling Morrison's guitar riffs that made most of this music what it was, RIP Sterling...
Agreed! Sterling died so no "what if's" there.. but John Cale should've stayed with lou (actually the other way arround ;) ). Cale is such a great artist. About Moe.. i don't know..

i'm sure you have worked it out but if not i think he uses the following chords in this G C D Am Em. good luck with learning it. if you get a friend to play the repeating lead line it can sound awesome.
ha! He used to have decent pipes but I agree with what you said if it actually was sarcasm(hope to god). I think he should just talk the lyrics...It'd be like beat poet-esque. I'd be able to enjoy it much more.

I used to wonder why the Lou Reed and the Velvets were such an influence to so many others - for those of you who still do, listening to this song will cement any doubts... It is said that not many people bought Velvet records, but the ones that did, started bands... When I heard REM cover this song on Dead Letter Office, I almost pooped my pants at its beautiful sound - I picked up the electric guitar and never put it down. Thanks Lou, linger on.
