In OK, you can not (i) use night vision, (ii) use a spotlight, (iii) shoot more than thirty minutes before sunrise or after sunset without a special pig control permit and (iv) you must wear blaze orange if hunting during another large game season. I can't find anything in the OK hunting regs that would curtail using a black rifle with more than 8 rounds in the mag, however. I'm not saying it isn't so, I just can't find it.
Sadly the .223 AR-15 / M-16 was meant to wound, not particularly kill. Wound one soldier and you tie up 1-2 other men to help get him out. It's hard to find any wild pigs to shoot in California. Wish we have a pig problem like that in California but no all I could find were some pig tracks and diggings not even pig droppings. California is expensive to live but game is scarce. Will get the hell out of CA when retire.

They are destroying miles and miles of farmland as well as completely demolishing all of the local food chains and ecosystems. Even with government sponsored hunting, humans would need to kill nearly 4 out of every 10 each month in order to keep them at a sustained level.

@CJustus2013 Truth is he could have hit a pig with each of the 30 rounds and we wouldn't know. He's only shooting a .223 caliber, so unless you put a well placed shot in either the head or the lungs it is going to run a long way and likely survive. I've shot a hog that wasn't more than 150 lbs from about 30ft away with a 30-06 and it got up and ran about 150 yards before we found him. They are extremely tough animals!

a .223 w/ 70 grain bullet will easily drop a pig. I only question why the OP shot freehand rather than getting a rest. Otherwise, the pigs are a serious nuisance and need to be culled. Hope they tasted good, and good luck in the future.

I would imagine hitting a hog 20-50 yards away, while its running would not be easy. They are low to the ground and pretty damn fast. The first shot should get a kill. Every shot after that is a combination of luck and skill, and the weapon choice also plays a key roll. To me it looks like there is a pig infestation on that land and they should be dealt with. Shoot away and try to get as many as you can.

a .223 w/ 70 grain bullet will easily drop a pig. I only question why the OP shot freehand rather than getting a rest. Otherwise, the pigs are a serious nuisance and need to be culled. Hope they tasted good, and good luck in the future.

Thats my only hang up on hunting. Im totally for hunting, but as far as my own abilities go, id be to worried that I didn't kill it on the first or second shot. And then you have to listen to it scream in pain, which makes me feel bad, : (
But then when I eat it later, I feel good. : )

The feral pigs are nasty and an invasive species. There's a reason the state conservation agencies let you shoot them with large magazines wherever and whenever you want. They cause massive economic damage and have already driven a number of local species near to extinction. They're also putting major pressure on the food supply for whitetail deer.

I would imagine hitting a hog 20-50 yards away, while its running would not be easy. They are low to the ground and pretty damn fast. The first shot should get a kill. Every shot after that is a combination of luck and skill, and the weapon choice also plays a key roll. To me it looks like there is a pig infestation on that land and they should be dealt with. Shoot away and try to get as many as you can.
