Today I had a lecture from interspecific communication - we´ve learnt about Dr. Pepperberg and about Alex - untill now I didn´t know anything about him and about what ever he knew. He had to be a special parrot - and I also hope, that dr. Pepperberge´s approach to animals will be inspiration for all scientists... R.I.P. Alex

:'-C oh alex, until i get to heaven, please.... stay safe in the arms of jesus. i love you. you precious little creature, you where just like anyone else, ur life had as much value as anyone else's did. thats why this wonderful person made this for you.
being the lucky owner of an african grey they are not only pets, they are companions who light up everyday...funny witty and clever.Alex's passing is very upsetting.THANKYOU for posting this wonderful tribute to him
Watching this makes me realize how connected all life is.
20 years ago what a narrow limited view prevailed in the main stream scientific community about animal intelligence!
This is so inspiring because it tells us as much about our own intelligence - its strengths, limitations how to overcome those limitations - as it does about the suprisingly different ways that intelligence manifests itself in the animal kingdom. Particularly - it is NOT a mirror image of our own sort of intelligence!
Bought the book years ago....will never forget him. What a gifted and wonderful parrot. I cried when I listened to it. It's beautiful. Treasure your memories.
Alex was a one of a kind african grey parrot! i watched him and followed him. it was because of his intelligence that i went and got a african grey parrot! she is intelligent in her own way! Alex is now in a place where he is free and among others! R.I.P. ALEX
I used to follow Alex thru the news, internet ect...I didn't know he died. How sad a day that had to have been. This is a wonderful tribute to him. Thank you for posting this. Jan
This Parrot is amazing! What an amazingly smart animal he was! If only i can get my parrots to say half of what he says I'd be more than satisfied! This video made me cry so much!
This parrot has brought tears to my eyes, i am sure he will be waiting for her at the bridge were all loved animals are waiting for their owners. Until the day comes they can walk into the kingdom of heaven together. RIP.......
Thank you for this vid. I saw several Alex videos and contributed on one of the online memorials for Alex when this first happened...however, I think I cried hardest just now, while watching this vid. Fly free Alex...
Thanks for the video. It was kind of like watching a memorail for my African grey who also died. He could make up his own sentences, even asked me an appropriate Q. once. Most of his speech was appropriate. He loved children. When I stopped taking him to school to be in my speech class (difficult situation) after many years, he was so unhappy! Adult attention didn't "get it". He loved kids. He died not too long later & I do believe he is in Heaven. I thank our Heavenly Father for him!

They are beyond special. Our goffins, Willie, passed from us over a year ago and I miss him still. Even though he had "issues" he was smart, engaging and a full member of the family. Right now we have a cockatiel and a sun conure. Our lives would be diminished if not for them. Alex was wonderful and through Dr. Pepperberg's work, avian conscienceness was raised. Goodbye, Alex. Not forgotten.
When i Saw this video I started to cry. He was and still will be in your harts the best parrot on the world. God bless you Alex and RIP smartest and nicest bird in the univers. You wore very smart! ;( ;( ;(

Goodbye Alex, R.I.P, this video is beautiful, it makes me cry every time, I have an African Grey called Barney, and you inspired me to teach him how to recognise and say the number 4, now he can count up to 5!! We will miss you xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Alex: you were the impetious that got me seriously involved with birds. Now my flock contains 11 Tiels, a bonded pair of Budgies, and a bond pair of Conures sitting on 2 eggs.
I think people forget how special animals are to us who love them. I had tears in my eyes and know that others felt the same way. I can only hope that in some ways he realized what he was doing and how he was helping other animals.RIP u will be missed
Oh, that brought tears to my eyes. I put Penny (my African Grey) on my shoulder and she seemed to know I was upset. My God, they are smart and sentient beings. Wonderful video - I'm going to pass it around on Facebook.
omfg that was the best damned tribute to a truley amazing bird who exelled in pritty much everything in his 31 years of life!it made me cry! r.i.p alex! your gone but not forgotton. you touched the hearts of many and shall forever be with them.

You did a fine job with this video tribute! I'm so glad you posted one. I haven't seen any others, and Alex deserves a tribute on YouTube. Thank you for doing this! My condolences to those who loved and cared for this great parrot. Alex, may you have an endless supply of yummy cashews where you are now!
to ohioruthie: thank you for all the time and love you obviously put into making this video. Like you, so many of us bird lovers will remember Alex always but you made it a little easier through remembering the good times with all of these wonderful photos.
Bless his little heart and soul. Thank you Dr. Pepperberg for teaching so many just how important and special these birds are. My sincerest sympathy to you and all your colleagues for your incredible loss. Peace to Alex - my he soar with the angels. Love you 4ever, April
What an amazing memorial to such an exceptional bird! The last photo of Dr. Pepperberg and Alex was one of true love and companionship. Alex will be missed.
This is absolutely beautiful and it's just perfect! must have taken quite some time to get this just right. I've watched it so many times. It would be nice to see it at the end of one of Dr Pepperbergs interviews. The message at the end....so profound
I just loved this tribute! While attending the University of Arizona, I knew someone who worked in Dr. Pepperberg's lab with Alex. He always considered it an honor to be there, and gave me Alex updates all the time. I miss Alex!
Alex was an amazing little guy, and i hope Dr. Pepperburg see's this video. And he helped so many with the research he completed. I never had a chance to meet Alex or Dr. Pepperberg, but it was my wish to trek down from canada someday and hopefully get the chance too. =( The video made me cry(and i'm a guy!). I couldn't imagine what they must be going thru...
God Speed little one....you touched our hearts for too brief a moment in time.
What a beautiful memorial for Alex! I cried all over again. Thank you for making it-that's a lot of work and I'm sure you weren't dry eyed either. I hope Dr. Pepperburg gets to see it sometime. Fly free Alex!
Very nicely done. A loving tribute to a pioneer in Avian research. Alex was a special parrot, and (of course) that was largely due to Irene's work with him.
This was done with such love and caring. She will absolutely love it as I did. Thankyou for taking the time and trouble. Paulette, Jiya and Billy Bird (2 Cags)
Writing with tearfilled eyes is not easy, but every time I read some of the comments written about Alex I feel saddened. I am owned by 7 parrots and they are so loving and understanding. The work Dr. Pepperberg has done is the truth and only bird owners and lovers will see it.
This video is exceptional - I would love to have some of the pictures I have seen of Alex. I create in Paint Shop Pro and would love to make some letters in memory of Alex.
Awesome job!!! Alex and Dr Peperberg are the reason I got an interest in parrots many many years ago, and I am now owned by 3 wonderful fids (feathered kids). "Sammy" green cheek conure, "Sophia" congo african grey, and "Rio" blue front amazon. Fly free little dear one, fly free.
Today I had a lecture from interspecific communication - we´ve learnt about Dr. Pepperberg and about Alex - untill now I didn´t know anything about him and about what ever he knew.
Fly free little one.

So sweet! I love the photo near the end, where it looks like Alex is smiling. A nice tribute to Alex and Dr Pepperberg and their work together.
