Maybe your opinions would be better received if you were to write eloquently and offer suggestions for improvement instead. For instance, it would be better to say the choreography falls short of what the dancer is capable of instead of calling it "mediocre american," which is racist and contentious, and does nothing to actually critique the dance. She is greek and she learned bellydance all most all her life. she never studied belly dance in America. not saying American dancers are horrible. but the person has no idea what he or she is talking about.
The transitions between moves were distracting. Don't fix your hair after you balance the sword and straighten out your costume. Also, try not to look scared while you're balancing the sword. relax and smile. Good belly dancing once you get past the rough transitions.

aiwa, psycogo. i'm not familiar with Rania, no idea what her "descent" is. but she dances like a mediocre american dancer; and this sword routine is full of all the cliche "sword" moves (and the tiresomely ugly bellydancing "sword" everyone gets). i was dozing off. frankly i'd rather watch a mediocre (or worse), but more creative 'tribal' girl with sword. & i'm all egyptian as far as bellydancing (not a tribal fan). ho hum rania.
It doesn't necessary make Rania better because she specializes in it.
Shakira's been doing it since she was two and it's apart of her culture. She never really focuses on only bellydancing only because she is a singer. Rania is a fitness expert/bellydancer that made a great career in bellydancing. That does not make her better.
Not to mention the fact that this is 'Turkish' belly dance (not seeing it myself) and Shakira is of Lebanese descent. Sure, the Ottomans were in control of both countries at one point...but the dance isn't the same.
Rania is definitely one of my favorite belly dancers! The sword balancing is sexy and her costume is very beautiful. I once watched a belly dancer rocking a sword back and fourth on her belly while doing stomach undulations. I wished Rania would have done it on this vid. I just happened upon her video while shopping three years ago. I have learned from other dancers since then but, Rania is by far the best to my taste.
Rania has a lot of CHARISMA, but not talent as a belly dancer, she's a bit stiff, and heavy. I like her a lot, she's definantly sexy, but she's not the best belly dancer. I've seen better.
amazing! i love rania . she's an expert. and do look at salome, the bonde one, and see how she's moving too! both are very, very special bellydancers! this is true art!this is perfect coordination of the body, very hard to achieve!

I think Rania is one of the most original bellydancers of today. She's not a ballerina or a jazz dancer, or whatever else they want bellydancers to be, just strictly bellydancing, earthy and passionate. I take a lot of inspiration from her - she is a true artist.
Shakira dances like nearly all women can, who grew up with oriental music.I can dance like Shakira, but not like Rania, which is ok, cause Shakira is not a professional belly dancer, but singer.Of course I wouldn't claim I could sing like her;)Nevertheless Ranias dancing is not the best I have seen, but she is a belly dancer, Shakira is not.
Normally I would agree with you, I don't think Shakira is a outstanding belly dancer, average at best but this girl just didn't impress me, whether she's professional or not.
I agree, she stops too much during the performance to keep the interest going. A dancer should never have any time during a routine where she is not moving. Shakira is a great singer, but she does not focus all her time on belly dancing. She is an entertainer, but not necessarily a "belly dancer".

Rania has a lot of CHARISMA, but not talent as a belly dancer, she's a bit stiff, and heavy. I like her a lot, she's definantly sexy, but she's not the best belly dancer. I've seen better.

i really love rania...i think she is an excllent teacher...in fact her instructional videos are the best cos she is very visual...unlike many other instructional videos...N as a dancer...i always admired her...i think she is great and really very pretty

what is with people not liking rania's bellydancing? she is blatantly amazing. There are different styles of bellydancing, if she were like every other bellydancer then people like you would still complain about her. she is original and has a lot of talent. i think ur jealous of her.

Ok belly dancing is cultural and as Shakira is half Arab its probably something she grew up dancing. I'm sure she didn't learn it from this video or any other. ;)
And it's cool that this girl is balancing a sword all over her body while dancing, but it is pretty boring. =/

I think Rania is one of the most original bellydancers of today. She's not a ballerina or a jazz dancer, or whatever else they want bellydancers to be, just strictly bellydancing, earthy and passionate. I take a lot of inspiration from her - she is a true artist.

Shakira dances like nearly all women can, who grew up with oriental music.I can dance like Shakira, but not like Rania, which is ok, cause Shakira is not a professional belly dancer, but singer.Of course I wouldn't claim I could sing like her;)Nevertheless Ranias dancing is not the best I have seen, but she is a belly dancer, Shakira is not.

Normally I would agree with you, I don't think Shakira is a outstanding belly dancer, average at best but this girl just didn't impress me, whether she's professional or not.

I agree, she stops too much during the performance to keep the interest going. A dancer should never have any time during a routine where she is not moving. Shakira is a great singer, but she does not focus all her time on belly dancing. She is an entertainer, but not necessarily a "belly dancer".
