Odesk is just contributing to the outsourcing problem. Buyers listing jobs for $2, $3 an hour?? Who do you think this benefits. No wonder third world nations log the most hours on oDesk.... it's Slavery if you ask me.

Well, $2/hr is big money for us Filipinos already compared to the minimum wage here in the Philippines which is approx around 70cents. You can already feed yourself a decent meal with $2 in our country.. and that's 3meals. if u think it's slavery that's fine. but i assure u, it's a good source of income for us from the third world especially with the economy that we have worldwide nowadays. on a positive note, im proud that westerners choose us to work for them.

I understand that. I'm just saying Odesk is an AMerican company. We have a huge problem now with companies outsourcing jobs overseas because it's cheep labor for them, but ultimately bad for our economy.

i see.. i understand.. well, you can work at odesk too you know.. :) there are buyers looking for native americans as providers. and if you're highly qualified, you can charge higher rate than the minimum wage in the US.. :) but yeah, i understand your concern. i work in an american company now as my fulltime job and we deal with loans and a lot of our customers are really having a hard time finding a job nowadays..

@sumusheng I think many Americans are concerned with outsourcing to India. It's not a racial thing. It's that sites like these enable easy outsourcing of jobs for cheap. Even though both candidates may be equally qualified, candidates in other countries have a lower standard of living (lower pay, no benefits...etc). Personally I believe that the government should impose additional taxes for companies that are outsourcing. We need to save the service industry!!!

@KungFuChess dude I dont know about you, but everyone can go and work here. I have classmates(in highschool) and she is earning like thousands each week. she bought herself a fuckin car and got herself everything she wanted.

its not 2-3. it all depends on work. whats said in odesk is $7-$900 per hour. but it all depends on the contractor and the employer.

but if its is 2-3 dollars, it would be equivalent to 150 pesos. 1 hour=150 pesos? dude i can get my girlfriend some flowers and chocolates

there are several payment methods, thru paypal, bank transfer, moneybookers or the best among all, the oDesk mastercard. it's free but it takes more or less a month before it arrives, i recomend the card coz u can use it as atm card.

not really. it's kinda difficult to get hired nowadays. my last assignment was last month. i do telemarketing, assistant sometimes and writing too. what do you mean that you will pay to odesk?

somebody told me about odesk today and i was excited when i first heard it, but what you said discouraged me. i can spare a few hours a day for this but if it is extremely difficult to get hired then i probably wont bother.

it's not EXTREMELY difficult. it just requires patience. it's better trying than doing nothing at all, right? if u give up now without even trying it out then you'll really gain nothing...i just don't want to bring up false hopes to people. i just want to set the right expectations for the newbies at odesk so i brushed through the pros and cons of joining odesk..but thanks for letting me know about what u think. =) God bless=)

you must apply to jobs that you can do. if u think u can do data entry then that's good. keep applying. don't forget that u need to download the odesk tool to record your time when you are working. i started at odesk when i was 19. im 20 now so it doesn't matter if ur 18. you earn when u get hired. the buyers will pay u. i suggest u apply for the odesk payoneer card now. it's free. the buyers will pay u through that card.

with questions with the option "all of the above", all the answers are all of the above. there are some questions without the all of the above, one of them, the answer is TEAMROOM, and then yes, you can create your own company at odesk.
