I dont think many people will be willing to have their limbs removed just to get a cybernetic one, like in deus ex. (I would be one of them since i have rather... terrible feet and ankles that make it painful just to walk) Cybernetics for Prosthetic is another story, it could really make lives so much better.
I got stuck at Namir Boss Fight and couldn't see properly either due to an upgrade I did. Had to return the game after 25 hours on Namir, I gave up :( This game is too hard!
Watching this video has really opened my eyes to just how close we are to the deus ex world, its hard to believe that what we can currently achieve is achievable, i have played through the first deus ex but not the second yet, i am now 15 attending a private school, i really hope i can contribute in some way to the human development, in the mean time, ill get my GCSE's and A-levals :D
The technology in Deus Ex may as well be from another galaxy. And if there's ever anything even remotely close, it will be to expensive for the masses anyway.
We can't even get a basic health care system to work, diligent doctors & nurses that aren't over-worked, understaffed or underpaid. That was fascinating. So we are literally at the stepping stone at making real deus ex augmented limbs for the dismembered needed. Damn, and when I was born all there was a Nintendo 64, Playstation and a Dreamcast (Which are still amazing). But now we have not just varieties of technology just for games (The consoles were example of technology). But now we have Variety of technology expanding from different division, such as Media, Entertainment, and Science and Technology. This is our future.
7:50 The guy explains that he lost his legs and how his artificial foot works, and the other dude comes up: "like a ninja slipper!" - Yeah yeah, like a ninja slipper... I'm gonna poke your other eye out.

As someone hoping to use their degree to join the military, I really, really hope there comes a day when I can say to a soldier that just lost his legs to some bloody IED, that he will at least not lose functionality as well as sensation below x point.
As a transhumanist, I want anime-robotgirl style jetpack wings in my back. Because awesome.

I know there's nothing to be excited about loosing an arm but bionic arm of McCammon looks amazingly alike to Deus Ex augs.
I'd probably go for bionic eyes - currently I rely on contact lenses so replacing my original eyes with bionic counterparts would be a nice change. Besides - taking photos at will sound quite tempting ;)
Hugh herr has said that his prostetic devices will be as advanced as they are in Deus ex 3 by 2027. recently he said, he would meet his goals even earlier.
@evangelistevan the shut the fuck up and move on. Deus Ex:HR was an amazing game with a huge political message that you obviously missed. Go back to your shitty CoD games.
We studied a bit of this in university when I did a unit in Bioethics, it's probably the single most interesting thing to debate about in this world today. I cannot wait for the future.
I returned this game and got a REFUND! The guys who created this game are very poor business people with a very low awareness. They get professional game testers to test their game and then make decisions based on the feedback from the game testers, and as a result, they made the game TOO HARD. The "easy mode" is a JOKE and way too hard for 99% of gamers.
This game is created for 1% hard core and elite gamers, and the other 99% of gamers cannot complete the game cause its too hard!!!
@EvangelistEvan What games have you played Call of duty? In the old days Video games were HARD And brutal honestly Deus ex HR is not too hard it is pretty difficult but not that hard at all. Try playing Dark souls before you say Deus ex is hard.
Wow, really? You couldn't be more wrong, you're just a terrible gamer. Deus Ex normal difficulty is not hard at all, there were some parts that were a bit tricky, that make you have to THINK a bit before acting. But other than that it's not a hard game. I'm happy with it's difficulty settings, the normal one is alright, easy one is easy, and the hard setting is hard like it's name indicates.
And like a previous commentator said, if you think Deus Ex is hard, play Dark Souls.
@EvangelistEvan Because of people like you we get to play games, where everything is highlighted, the game shows you where to shoot/ where to clock etc. It´s just so sad, you don´t even have to use a bit of your brain.
I prefer Mass Effect,it's more enjoyable because it's not as hard as Deus Ex. Deus Ex is too hard, even on the "easy mode",so it's not enjoyable, it's frustrating. Mass Effect programmers were a lot smarter by including a truly easy mode.
I am returning Deus Ex for a refund. Bad move by them, they commit business suicide for not including a truly EASY MODE, and making it too hard for 99% of people.
Only elite and hard core gamers can play this game to completion, for everyone else it's too hard!
It somewhat scares me every time I watch this video, I know we will eventually (perhaps soon) have technology like in Deus Ex: HR, and that in itself isn't what scares me, I think it's amazing, but when you add the factor of human flaws such as greed and hatred, it can get quite scary to think about. Corporate corruption has always been around and there is no telling what it will do to new technologies to come.
You know, for all they're doing to try to prove to us that Adam's tech is plausible in 16 years, why did they have to give the game a divergent timeline? And if a divergent timeline was necessary, why not set it a little further in the future instead? There's plenty of room between Deus Ex 1 and Deus Ex Human Revolution.
@predictless Me too. When I was skipping school and going snowboarding, I used to wish all my friends could see what I was seeing as I ripped down the mountain. Pretty soon, with eyeball camera's, the video feed could be broadcast live on your Facebook wall. Can already do it from the iPhone 4 (Facetime for Facebook - coming soon), so why not with the Eyeborg?
@arvuti12 Or worse. This is the issue. What this guy is pointing out is that pretty soon, every move you make will be broadcast and recorded. Not a good thing. Read "1984" by George Orwell. (you probably have, but I mention it just in case you haven't).
Riots are actually happening on large scales. The New World Order seems to be closing in. The bills such as S.I9 are pushing themselves through the governments under different names. We are the few who have seen it coming before anybody else.
People can't wait to get to 2027. But if you bother to look at the economy -- ie. Wall Street (nation-wide riots), "Federal" Reserve Bank -- EU, UN, NAFTA, linking nations together for an world economic meltdown -- We won't be anywhere by that date....
Just because it doesn't affect you now, doesn't mean it won't in the future.
A lot of people were skeptical about the decision to place Deus Ex: HR just 16 years in the future and I can see Eidos made this video as a rebuttal. Well...it's a damn good one!
Though I still felt they went a bit too far with the technology showcased. Holograms and "VOTLs" felt totally unnecessary for the Deus Ex vision of 2027.
@Puglous :) I got the pair of limb a few weeks ago. I'm quite satisfy with 'em. Even though sometime they have slowness problems and battery shortage (last for 6 hours max, took 2 hours to recharge). Of course they aren't like Adam Jensen's limbs but I am going to save up money for the sport ones, the one that allow me to run or jump.
Sorry for misunderstood your previous reply. Happy holiday.
@liennto It's pretty good. Quite laggy and sometime it reacts slow. I still need the walking stick when I clime up the stairs. I don't mind because it's government provided tools and I have to pay only little maintenance fees.

We are very, very far away from developing replacement organs/limbs that function as good as their real counter parts (not to mention also look as natural), nevermind going beyond that.
Probably mid to late 21st century. Meanwhile, we are just going to see more advanced variations of stuff we already have, which is to say, great news for those without limbs, but nothing to replace actual flesh and blood.
@Pillowflame don't forget that there is already artificial blood as a technology. also, once you get the basic concepts of designing this kind of technology, it's just a matter of combining it. I'm sure it won't be exactly like Deus ex, but it will mean that people with prosthetic limbs and organs will feel more natural than they would today.
I don't believe the tech is that far away. the only thing that matters is the funding.
If I could upgrade my body so that I could never die, then so help the rest of humanity, cos I'd be robbing every bank in the world to make it happen!
Actually the whole point of Deus ex is government conspiracies which are not present in HR. The whole point of Deus ex 3 was to try and get the scientists back and the "morally wrong" thing was just a back drop, in my opinion it didn't contribute to the story much except for the end. I mean sure it pops up a lot but to base a game on just that isn't a good idea. The reason why DX 1 was such a good game is the fact that you got to see the other side of governments and you were ex
Human limbs will never surpass robotic limbs. It's almost impossible to replicate the complexity of our body with all of the nerves and what not. Even if you could lift objects with a prosthetic, you wouldn't be able to feel things. Robotics is cool an all, but it's just not right to intentionally replace a limb for an artificial one.
@idib1 bs, human parts are far from perfect or "impossible complexity", cybernetic limbs will surpass biological ones, and not by a little... but by FAR, orders of magnitude better in any way. And yes you will be able to "feel things"
lol, he is absolutely sure we'll get to have an Adam Jensen by 2027? right, is that before or after we witness the bankruptcy of capitalism? and we get thrown out of a cybernetic renaissance into a socio-political disaster?
Its amazing where we are getting in life... makes me wonder if people with lost limbs will enjoy the prosthetic ones more, seeing that it might be possible to have stronger legs or what not. however i doubt we will reach the sensitivity and flexibility of a real leg

I'm going to get a pair of bionic legs in November. Can't wait. I'm tired of rolling wheelchair now, since 9 years old.
This clip warms my heart again for being handicapped.

@Puglous Infection. Amputated both legs by 9. My tale would apply to most of the Eastern Berliners during the Wall divide.

@binbashLinuxAhole
I mean you asked for the bionic limbs.
Puglous 2 months ago
@Puglous :) I got the pair of limb a few weeks ago. I'm quite satisfy with 'em. Even though sometime they have slowness problems and battery shortage (last for 6 hours max, took 2 hours to recharge). Of course they aren't like Adam Jensen's limbs but I am going to save up money for the sport ones, the one that allow me to run or jump.
Sorry for misunderstood your previous reply. Happy holiday.

@binbashLinuxAhole Did you get your bionic legs? I hope it worked out for you.
liennto 2 months ago
@liennto It's pretty good. Quite laggy and sometime it reacts slow. I still need the walking stick when I clime up the stairs. I don't mind because it's government provided tools and I have to pay only little maintenance fees.
Thanks for asking.

@binbashLinuxAhole Best of luck getting to your goal of running and jumping. Shouldnt be too much longer... Take care

Pillowflame 5 months ago
@Pillowflame u might wanna think again for the stuff used in military ..
seinankhan1 5 months ago
@Pillowflame don't forget that there is already artificial blood as a technology. also, once you get the basic concepts of designing this kind of technology, it's just a matter of combining it. I'm sure it won't be exactly like Deus ex, but it will mean that people with prosthetic limbs and organs will feel more natural than they would today.
I don't believe the tech is that far away. the only thing that matters is the funding.

@HRHippieRanger

Robotics is cool an all, but it's just not right to intentionally replace a limb for an artificial one.
idib1 5 months ago
@idib1 They discuss that in the game, about how its morally wrong, yet people do it to get ahead in life, thats the whole point of Dues Ex
HRHippieRanger 5 months ago
@idib1 bs, human parts are far from perfect or "impossible complexity", cybernetic limbs will surpass biological ones, and not by a little... but by FAR, orders of magnitude better in any way. And yes you will be able to "feel things"
Shinjeez 4 months ago
lol, he is absolutely sure we'll get to have an Adam Jensen by 2027? right, is that before or after we witness the bankruptcy of capitalism? and we get thrown out of a cybernetic renaissance into a socio-political disaster?

Its amazing where we are getting in life... makes me wonder if people with lost limbs will enjoy the prosthetic ones more, seeing that it might be possible to have stronger legs or what not. however i doubt we will reach the sensitivity and flexibility of a real leg
