using gloves to keep from staining one's hands with the pomegranate juice, not to be confused with concerns about cleanliness around the food... as it is in most central asian outdoor markets.
@Mrdushi Although we found dog in markets elsewhere in China, we did not find any dog at the Uighur markets in Xinjiang. Given that the Uighurs are primarily Muslim, I think dog is off the menu.
@seka1986 I don't remember seeing guinea pigs (we did see a lot of them in South America, though). As for cat, we didn't see them either. Who knows...maybe they were hiding. Meat in Chinese markets was pretty much openly displayed.
@seka1986 The European look is pretty wild, isn't it? Am in Berlin now and he could pass for one of the guys serving up doner kebab. Small world we live in.
@seka1986 As an Uyghur myself, I find your comments more than offensive. It attacks the fundamental values of the Uyghur people. Please do your research before making comments like that.
I lived in Kashgar for 4 years and met my wife there. I knew Kashgar well. I studied side by side with the Uighurs and came to know them well as well as their real problems. Mlost Uighurs just wanted peace and to be left alone by the Chinese.
@46marcopolo We really enjoyed our time in Xinjiang province and found the Uighurs very friendly, a fascinating culture even different than their other Central Asian neighbors. To say that the Uighurs are in a difficult position geographically and geopolitically is an understatement.
@ELPaso1990TX Thank you! Xinjiang is one of the most fascinating areas of China. Very different than much of the rest of the country, at least based on our experience. We wrote a lot about it on our website because of this.
@eatcheese2007 In the Uighur region of China (Xinjiang province), we didn't come across much dog -- if any at all. We did find dog in other parts of China, like at the markets in Guizhou province.
you sounds like a funny ass, you think you look any better than any of those people? hahaa... they are original turks=Hun. do some reasearch about them. good luck
Check out our website Uncornered Market - in the food and China categories. We wrote a long piece about Uighur food that gives a lot more details (and photos) than this video.
