I have 13 friends in the military. 12 are Marines and one sailor. This video shocks me in the treatment that so many of our nations's veterans receive. Our veterans deserve the best we can give them. OORAH!
When i was 21 I was in the same boat as Ryan. I'm now 32 still trying to at least get VA health coverage. It's not only That asshole O'Reilly isn't the only one causing problems. Maybe the VA should give hiring priority to all of us veterans. I am proud to say I served when the time came only to get dumped on by the country I was fighting for.

I go to the VA and it sucks soooo bad...do not get me wron I am thankful to have it in case something happens...but I just wish that I could catch a break...I do work now and I am not homeless anymore but it is really hard still without family

Oreilly usually is ususally very sensible..but not on this topic. I've watched CSPAN meetings on benefits for vets be decreased over the years...these kids deserve benefits..all their lives. Fighting causes mental illnesses and we are responsible for them....if our stimulus plan funds go anywhere it should be there...but don't get rid of FOX because...if we do it's a step towards Shariah Law and communism....CAIR wants that.

Actually I am doing a lot better now...but not thanks to US Vets they wanted to take govmt money and our money and they are being investigated by the FBI right now. I got a good job and I am very thankful for all of your support...BUT That does not mean I am done fighting for the rights of veterans and the people equally. Something must be done about what is going on in the world and it is up to us "the people" to do something about it!
I recently lost my job after 10 years of hard work. I joined the Navy when I was 18 and spent 7 years in. When I got out I worked as a Bicycle mechanic for 10 years. Now I'm unemployed and am having a hard time buying the essentials i.e. rent/food/clothing. I've never had to ask for help before now. If anybody reads this could you please respond. A few kind words or a few dollars would really help me. I love helping others and would love to get back to doing that. Thank You.

Interesting...I spent 6 YEARS onboard the Carl Vinson, but I made something out of my life when I got out! Yes, I had to work for what I have now! I found out, back in the early 90's when I got out, that people generally did not give a damn if you were in the military or not! If this guy is sleeping under bridges, then he learned nothing from being onboard the Carl Vinson! Oh, and he has pretty good looking watch for someone who sleeps under bridges!

If you had ever served you'd know that they do not discharge you unless you get a series of classes explaining your benefits. The guy in the video said he used those benefits but lost them because he wanted to go to school, not get a full time job. He made a choice. HE gave up his benefits. He also chooses to live on the street with nice clothes.
My point is this. He CHOOSES not to use the benefits provided him. Don't blame the US for his bad choices. He acts like a victim.
How the GI Bill works is you choose it, then pay in. The gov't then gives you a monthly checked based on # of credits. The gov't provides you the oppoprtunity, you need to use it. They can't make you use your benefits. Should they also enroll you in school and help w/ your homework too? The gov't is bad, but not ALL bad.
obviously you know more about this than me. it just seems that they should continue giving you benefits, i didn't mean they should pay for your whole education and everything

ALSO!!! this place called U.S. Vets kicked me out because I would not find work withing 30 days, they wanted me to have a full time job but i also wanted to go to college but they said NO so they basicly wanted me to be stuck in this situation so i could not move out on my own and get a good job instead they wanted me to work for a security company at 9.00/hr .ALSO they are under Federal Investigation for using OUR tax money for themselves and also charging us rent which is called double-dipping
which is wrong because they where getting funding from the Department of Veteran Affairs a per diem of 36.00/day for over 100, also they made us get food stamps and general relief so we could give that to them too which was about 400 per month then also pay them rent
if you do the math they are making over 16 million dollars a year. So you see people such as myself can not find a honest group of people that will help and wont fuck us over too.....many others where kicked out because we wanted to go to school too.... so until you decide to be PRO PEACE and NOT ANTI WAR this will keep happening and no one will want to enlist because they will see what happened to us.

Anti-War here. The day any vet gets fucked on their hospital, or rehab treatment etc. is the day "the war", needs to come home! Even if we could leave Iraq, and Afganistan, what benefits/jobs are available for all the vets back state side? Every single vet who makes it home, should be GIVEN a job of their choice. You should get as many days to choose a job, as the # of days you served; like an unemployment benefit, till you start working. YOU did the work, taxpayers need to foot the bill.

Why did this "homeless vet" get out after only 2-1/2 years? If they're wanting to extend tours of duty and bring soldiers back 2 and 3 times but this guy somehow got out in only 2-1/2 years (and didn't say why) I'm calling dishonorable discharge. You get a dishonorable discharge you DO NOT get the red carpet treatment when you get out! Pay the price. This doesn't seem legit to me by a long shot.
I have a general under honorable discharge...second highest...as for why I got out....don't worry about it...I was accused of something I did not do...there was no formal investigation...I have my full VA benefits...I am not asking for anyhting...I am letting people know what is happening to veterans
Some people will always slip through the cracks of the system. For every one homeless vet there are 1,000 well taken care of vets. Being "homeless" how can you regularly respond to these posts on YouTube? Someone allows you to use their computer for this but won't help you find shelter? You have access to YouTube but never saw or heard of Bill O'Reilly, one of the most well-known news anchors? Like I said, something is not legit with this.
I read that at 18 yrs old you had "no choice but to join the Navy" and were adopted at 11? Problem youth? Juvenile legal issues? Is that why you had "no choice"? Jail or Navy? Otherwise you could have gone to college on student loans, lived in a cheap apartment, found a roommate, and worked part time. Or no college and just worked. That's what people do. There's ALWAYS a choice. You weren't forced into anything unless the law had something to do with it (which is why you were discharged).
My adoptive parents where given a social sec. check each month for my college...but they spent it...when I turned 18 they said either I go to college (which i could not afford...either could they) So either I joined the military...or left the house....I had no choice...and when i got out I had no where to go.....sooo no it was not a legal problem...i just have no family...sooo I AM TRYING...its just hard when you have no support like most people have to re-integrate.
So the only way to go to college is if someone ELSE pays for it? Come on!! Millions of 18 yr olds go to college on student loans. Payments are deferred until AFTER you graduate and then it becomes just a regular monthy bill. You CHOSE not to do that but instead voluntarily joined the Navy. You said you have FULL VA benefits so you now have money for college. If this is a legit story I wish you the best but don't say you had "no chocie" in the matter.
I do have full VA benefits, I am enrolled in Santa Monica College and start this next semester...but none the less it is hard...you know? I could not get the loans because my guardians would not co-sign for them...or else I would have...at least that is what they told me...(my guardians)

I mean people do make there own choices in life, big choices like joining the military, doing drugs and alcohol, degenerate gambling and many other life altering choices. I do feel sympathy for these people but what can we learn from all this? I had no where to go because my pay grade was E-3 when I got out....and I only made 13,000 a year....that was barely enough to survive off of...so how the hell was I suppose to save money to have a home when I got out....oh but I bet you thought we made good money didn't you???!? NOPE 13.000 before tazes...and I had a Car, Insurance, and food payment to spend that money on a year...
Someone who has a CAREER in the military makes good money (like my brother). He makes 70k and because of some technicalities had to take a temporary pay cut.

All of the homeless I have seen were not clean shaven, & wearing designer sweaters. If they guy is truly homeless, he didnt think about it 2 well before he presented himself on TV. Oreilly usually is ususally very sensible..but not on this topic. I've watched CSPAN meetings on benefits for vets be decreased over the years...these kids deserve benefits..all their lives. Fighting causes mental illnesses and we are responsible for them....if our stimulus plan funds go anywhere it should be there...but don't get rid of FOX because...if we do it's a step towards Shariah Law and communism....CAIR wants that.

Actually I am doing a lot better now...but not thanks to US Vets they wanted to take govmt money and our money and they are being investigated by the FBI right now. I got a good job and I am very thankful for all of your support...BUT That does not mean I am done fighting for the rights of veterans and the people equally. I recently lost my job after 10 years of hard work. I joined the Navy when I was 18 and spent 7 years in. When I got out I worked as a Bicycle mechanic for 10 years. Now I'm unemployed and am having a hard time buying the essentials i.e. rent/food/clothing. I've never had to ask for help before now. If anybody reads this could you please respond. Interesting...I spent 6 YEARS onboard the Carl Vinson, but I made something out of my life when I got out! Yes, I had to work for what I have now! I found out, back in the early 90's when I got out, that people generally did not give a damn if you were in the military or not! If you had ever served you'd know that they do not discharge you unless you get a series of classes explaining your benefits. The guy in the video said he used those benefits but lost them because he wanted to go to school, not get a full time job. He made a choice. HE gave up his benefits. He also chooses to live on the street with nice clothes.
My point is this. He CHOOSES not to use the benefits provided him. Don't blame the US for his bad choices. He acts like a victim.

How the GI Bill works is you choose it, then pay in. The gov't then gives you a monthly checked based on # of credits. The gov't provides you the oppoprtunity, you need to use it. They can't make you use your benefits. Should they also enroll you in school and help w/ your homework too? The gov't is bad, but not ALL bad.

I understand, and it further proves my point:
a special situation,he was really homeless before joining;thanks to 2 irresponsible persons making babies without depth,love commitment.THAT is the wrong reason to join the military and it is NOT the only option,many people were foster children,they chose to study or train 4 other jobs!but it's unfair to now say "War Is Wrong" of course,it's not a "good" "nice" thing,however sometimes THAT'S the option,(as you say),he will get help!,maybe some of u?

Absolutely i do!and for all homeless people! Since i was a kid,when i saw homeless wow my mom had to consoled me my heart breaks!but i don't like the opportunity people take to bash
an institution who have helped the world so much,because special situations,i've learned that veterans(as all homeless)can get help(i cook 4 350 homeless in Los Angeles!) AND i've taken some in thru the years myself(& also payed 4 often what became a mistake,being robbed,some who could hide a heroine addctn etc..so

Anti-War here. The day any vet gets fucked on their hospital, or rehab treatment etc. is the day "the war", needs to come home! Even if we could leave Iraq, and Afganistan, what benefits/jobs are available for all the vets back state side? Every single vet who makes it home, should be GIVEN a job of their choice. You should get as many days to choose a job, as the # of days you served; like an unemployment benefit, till you start working. YOU did the work, taxpayers need to foot the bill.

with all the flaws of our country, taking care of our brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, sons, daughters, and friends in the military (active and non-active) should not be one of them especially for as long as it has been.

I am not in a half-way house.....I don't use drugs...never used drugs....I just don't have family...I was adopted at 11 by people that used me for a social security check...when i turned 18 i had no choice but to join the navy...

Why did this "homeless vet" get out after only 2-1/2 years? If they're wanting to extend tours of duty and bring soldiers back 2 and 3 times but this guy somehow got out in only 2-1/2 years (and didn't say why) I'm calling dishonorable discharge. You get a dishonorable discharge you DO NOT get the red carpet treatment when you get out! Pay the price. This doesn't seem legit to me by a long shot.

I have a general under honorable discharge...second highest...as for why I got out....don't worry about it...I was accused of something I did not do...there was no formal investigation...I have my full VA benefits...I am not asking for anyhting...I am letting people know what is happening to veterans

Some people will always slip through the cracks of the system. For every one homeless vet there are 1,000 well taken care of vets. Being "homeless" how can you regularly respond to these posts on YouTube? Someone allows you to use their computer for this but won't help you find shelter? You have access to YouTube but never saw or heard of Bill O'Reilly, one of the most well-known news anchors? Like I said, something is not legit with this.

I read that at 18 yrs old you had "no choice but to join the Navy" and were adopted at 11? Problem youth? Juvenile legal issues? Is that why you had "no choice"? Jail or Navy? Otherwise you could have gone to college on student loans, lived in a cheap apartment, found a roommate, and worked part time. Or no college and just worked. That's what people do. There's ALWAYS a choice. You weren't forced into anything unless the law had something to do with it (which is why you were discharged).

My adoptive parents where given a social sec. check each month for my college...but they spent it...when I turned 18 they said either I go to college (which i could not afford...either could they) So either I joined the military...or left the house....I had no choice...and when i got out I had no where to go.....sooo no it was not a legal problem...i just have no family...sooo I AM TRYING...its just hard when you have no support like most people have to re-integrate.

So the only way to go to college is if someone ELSE pays for it? Come on!! Millions of 18 yr olds go to college on student loans. Payments are deferred until AFTER you graduate and then it becomes just a regular monthy bill. You CHOSE not to do that but instead voluntarily joined the Navy. You said you have FULL VA benefits so you now have money for college. If this is a legit story I wish you the best but don't say you had "no chocie" in the matter.

I do have full VA benefits, I am enrolled in Santa Monica College and start this next semester...but none the less it is hard...you know? I could not get the loans because my guardians would not co-sign for them...or else I would have...at least that is what they told me...(my guardians)

What are the chances of all these people being homeless if they werent vets?
I mean people do make there own choices in life, big choices like joining the military, doing drugs and alcohol, degenerate gambling and many other life altering choices. I do feel sympathy for these people but what can we learn from all this? Maybe its that the military is just one big killing machine and it affects everyone involved in many ways, whether its physical or mentally. Dont join them, bottom line!

I had no where to go because my pay grade was E-3 when I got out....and I only made 13,000 a year....that was barely enough to survive off of...so how the hell was I suppose to save money to have a home when I got out....oh but I bet you thought we made good money didn't you???!? NOPE 13.000 before tazes...and I had a Car, Insurance, and food payment to spend that money on a year...

Someone who has a CAREER in the military makes good money (like my brother). He makes 70k and because of some technicalities had to take a temporary pay cut.
My brother's in his 5th year. I never said that someone who was in for 2 1/2 years was going to have a good life. Did you have any plans for your future? Can you explain that?

With all due respect, the more I hear of your story, the more it seems like you just fell through a loophole. If all what you say is true and you are who you say you are, there is no reason why this should not be dismissed as liberal propaganda and/or anti-oreilly nonsense. It is not hard to discredit the man, but this case is not representative of all or most of the veterans 'living under bridges.'
