@wifimanboy No idea unfortunately! But probably not until mid-year? It's the thing I hate most about British shows, not enough episodes per season, not enough seasons per year!
Not enough money. That's why. You realise massive film studios own all your TV channels, yes? That's why you can lock actors into 5 year contracts, hire a hundred writers, shoot on actual film stock with 12 cameras covering every scene, and churn out 24 episodes all year round for 8 years on the trot. Kindly give us the billion dollars it takes to do that, and we'll happily try it out. Of course, the one advantage we have is not exhausting a formula until everyone's sick of it.
@PurushaDesa Yes, I was well aware of that, doesn't make it any less unfortunate. All my TV channels? Are you making assumptions as to which country I'm from? :P
You also have to remember that Brittish TV shows aren't as marketable to other countries, due to their quite different format. This mainly means the US will skip on most of them, or do poor remakes, to account for commercials, whereas most Brittish shows seem to run much longer and lack the commercials
Apologies for assuming you're the from the U.S.. I usually check a profile in advance, which indicates you're in Australia. Except it's the complaint I never stop reading from American viewers enjoying a British TV series, unprepared for a far shorter run than the year-long seasons they're used to. With regards to Australian television, I have no idea how long the standard run is there. I'm only really familiar with a couple of soaps, which by design, have to go on forever.
It's also worth noting though that with run time differences, they're much more likely to impose destructive cuts on the programme to fit it into the desired slot, than totally pass up because of that constraint. It's why you see Region 1 customer reviews constantly delighted by the extra material and better pacing. The number one barrier for non-US programmes is still mainstream taste (or at least the executives' perception of it).
