Dazza, thanks so much for posting these 911 concert vids. These guys sound just as good today as they did over forty yrs ago. Damn, it seems like just yesterday I tore the cellophane off the album and queued it up on the turntable. Good times.
you could tell even old keith was touched by the moment... a real human side of richards.. he chokes up a bit when he is singing the opening to the song love him@
Mick, you are the best!! Keith you still rock!! thank you for your support and love to our country the unique USA! and to our outstanding heroes now and for ever..God Bless You all.....Love New York....love from Hawaii.................ALOHA!!
I think the Stones will do a 50th Anniversary tour in 2012, but by making his solo album, Mick is making Keith sweat it out a little after saying those mean things in his book.
@cracks21229 So that's Micks 'revenge' to Keith, haha. Maybe the Stones start touring in autumn 2012 and finish in the summer of 2013 in London. Fifty years after their first record came out. Full circle.
@cracks21229 Those guys have the ultimate love-hate relationship. I remember Keith saying that if Mick went on tour without the Stones, performing Stones work, he would kill Mick. Aw, bless....
is Mick doing another solo album? i didn't know that, thanks. it's probably to get back at Keith for his book! his solo album songs may be his reply to all the things Keith said about him. but what Keith said about Mick was tongue in cheek, they've known each other forever and know how far to push each other. can't wait for a tour though. but will cost a fortune for a ticket. i work for the NHS, i don't own it!
@michelle88960 Keith is also recording new music, with Steve Jordan. Probably the next X-Pensive Wino's record. So he told Jimmy Fallon on his show in May.
@LizinLouie, the Concert for New York City was a benefit concert, featuring many famous musicians, that took place on October 20, 2001 at Madison Square Garden in New York City in response to the September 11, 2001 attacks. Many of the attendees were families and fellow members of the New York Fire Department and New York Police Department, honoring those lost in the attacks and those who had worked in the ongoing rescue and recovery efforts in the weeks since then.
New York City has been good to the Stones and here they're giving back. Great musicians, great city. They both survive the rugged ups and downs life has to offer! Thanks for posting.
a person had wrote in the newspaper that another concert like this should be organized to help out families of the first responders who are feeling hard times, over 800 have died so far, 9 11 is still taking lives 8 years later sad to say
they are awesome, seriously, but anyone notice keiths problem with singing and playing at the same time? usually in songs like happy he lets mick taylor or ron take over while he sings. he seems to have the same problem as me. anyways great song, great performance.
When I think of those firefighters going into those buildings when everyone else was trying to get out...and I hear this song, it truly brings a tear to my eye. NYC is the best and The Stones are the BEST.
RETIRED NYPD-I was there that night-Keith-Mick were terrific that night----I THINK THIS TOWN IS GOING TO MAKE IT--CLASSIC LINE---NYC LOVED THE STONES-AND THEY ALWAYS RETURNED THE FEELNG
Once again the Glimmer Twins showed why The Stones were the world's greatest rock and roll band. Mick's talent and positive energy and Keef Riffhard's pure musicality.
I agree with dannyd1572 it would have meant a lot more and been a lot better with just Mick and Keith and not all the other stuff behind them(well maybe keep Paul Shaeffer on the piano) but once again it should have been done more seriously with just Keith and Mick and we really need to hear Keith sing more he is really a good singer no matter what. If you don't think so listen to him on Happy-yeah I know its many years old but it's still a great song!

I've heard better buskers, Richards sounds as if he's being strangled. As for "Sir" Mick jagger, well what can I say? Sir Mick! Sir fuckin Mick!! What a fuking rebel! What a fukin rock and roll hell raiser.
It has only been played live six times -in 1968 for Circus, 3 times with Guns & Roses' Axl & Izzy during Steel Wheels 1989, then in 2003 durin the Licks tour.
Notice what Mick Jagger says at the end. "If there's one thing to be learned from this (Sept 11, 2001)whole experience is "YOU DON'T FUCK WITH NEW YORK, OKAY!". Well said Mick!!!
Keith is the best, love the beautiful acoustic he is playing...looks like Roger Daltrey is playing the same one during the Who set. Also, Keith changes the lyric to the 'good NOT the evil'...instead of the original 'good and the evil'.

Geez the stones have such an amazing array of classic songs.. And surely some of the most significant lyrics. "Salt" manages to be honest and heartfelt.
don't agree with ya Pye Pye. For the recors the song was recorded in 1968 when the stones were broke. Stones were also severely ripped off by Allen Klein from 63-70, hence you can see why Mick watches his dough. P.S Mick was the one who wrote Ronnie into Stones earnings in 89. Great song on a great album!
Thanks for uploading this-great song. Yes, Klein ripped off the Beatles too. They say Mick Jagger is the best/shrewdist rock and roller.(i.e. eyes on the dollar and attorneys). He did go to London School of Economics, and used that education!

The Stones playing the humble boys? Laughable! Mick does not even pay his musicians properly, tight as he is. And Keith could not care less about 'salt of the earth' hardworking people as long as Jack Daniels supply lasts. Then they bring in superstitiousness and pretend to prey for the soldiers. That won't help either! The song's a GLITCH from 60's! Snake Oil Salesmen! Sympathy for the Devil anytime!

I like the Stones, but this song is pure commercial calculation for teardrop explode effects on the audience. Keith&Mick are smart salesmen. What else is new! Generally, they don't need anymore to come across that cheap. Imagine, a politician would come up with this insincere stuff. Everybody would laugh. This is not the 60's anymore! Mick's last words say it: You don't fuck with New York, ok? You better believe it, Mick!
This song was written and recorded over 35 yrs. ago as a song to the people of their humble beginnings. They don`t perform it very often--only a few times since it was recorded. Maybe they just wanted to do a special song for a special occassion, maybe, ever thought of that chance. Maybe they didn`t just want a "commercial calculation"--whatever that means at a benefit concert.
PyePye7 - when did you get out? Peace brother. You simply don't get it, do you? Both Mick and Keef are totally into this performance. But you will never get it because you are all caught up in that circle jerk in New Orleans right before the storm hit.

If you can't figure out to cut through the crap leave it to me to tell you: Just because it's the Holy Cow alias the Stones it's still insincere crap - this song. And the dumb cows in the audience are dealing in crap, too. So it works! Twisted sentimental illusionists!. Shame on the Stones for that bullshit! P.S. you don't need to show verbally what retard you are, either!
PyePye, I agree to some degree with your trenchant analysis here but here's a suggestion of how to spend your evening: donate the 300 pounds that you've saved over your paltry lifetime and donate it to charity, then off you go, right down to the chemist, buy a straight razor, and slash your fucking wrists.

TenneyMead, you've all been fooled by the Rolling Stones Propaganda Machine for years! You've all been brainwashed like in a scientology experience! Jagger sings "let's pray.." but means "you are prey..!" When someone tells you the facts/truth you can see your anger coming out but you don't know where to direct it to. Direct it to the source that's been cheating you for years..!
The Stones- once hot in '65/'66- are bankers with a mediocre act, a middle of the road band, you blind believers!!!!!!
I have not been fooled Mr. Assfuck, either by the Stones or by your re-hashed, receycled trite bullshit. Of course the Stones are businessmen and they are artists as well. I believe this was a fairly sincere moment. What heppend to you PyePye? On the Dole, no job, no future, no friends, just the Internet, baby oil and a jizz rag for company?
TenneyMead-your style of polluting the Net just doesn't convince a man! Strutting your stuff you're showing the world you're an unqualified self righteous vulgar low life opportunist desperate to lift his deflated ego by spreading clichés of anal oriented substance without substance! Shut up or practise your cynicism in your own mudbath of your self-dismantled psyche! It ain't about the Stones anymore. I've said it before- you just don't know how to direct and control your garbage!
Christ, you are not only a fucking posing tosser but you are so bloody long-winded like "a tedious argument of insidious intent". Try another load of pablum shitbird but this time, 25 words or less.
Why the hell don't you two pussies exchange phone numbers and make deal with this person to person and spare the rest of us. You're nothing but a couple of cowards hiding behind your Youtube accounts.
Wow, rapier wit there hmnwilson, the unexpected homosexual insult was about as unexpected as a mensa candidate at a McCain rally. Paper or plastic, paper or plastic, paper or plastic, ask not for whom the bell tolls hmwwilson, the bell tolls for bringing you in from the yard.
that guy's right, nobody wants to read this shit while listening to an awesome song. why do you watch this if you don't like the stones? just shut up already.
I never heard them do this live aside from the Rock n' Roll Circus version with John Lennon. Very fitting song, and a great song from Beggars Banquet.

You can tell that the grizzled, wizened clairvoyant Keith Richards was on the verge of tears during the intro.

..."they look so real to me; ahh, they don't look so strange..."
Subtle yet very powerful lyric change; kudos to you, Mick. Well played, mate.

The real Stoners!

I never heard them do this live aside from the Rock n' Roll Circus version with John Lennon. Very fitting song, and a great song from Beggars Banquet.

I gained a lot of respect for them from this performance. Plus I think Mick looks better than ever!
