  • Why is it Harry's last lecture. Is he dead?

  • this guy is great!

  • is that why the christians supported him, and why he based his eugenics off of california's movement, you know, "way back when everyone was religious in america"

    ?

  • Just wanted to also add to my confusion and disapproval of any sort of subjective religion being mixed with objective science. This is NOT the purpose of University and is quite a contradiction of concepts.

  • I think that the idea is that objective science is not the only method of examining this world. Without a healthy study of one's self, numbers and facts have little use. It is the place of religion and philosophy to contextualize objective science.

  • i second the dissolve. To study a religious life and impose ones findings and claim freewill in ones spiritual quest is an obvious contradiction that OUGHT to be spoken of but instead students are inculcated with myth in dramatic buildings that sell the product of a 10 percent tax on ones freewill to a religious life.

  • I think that religion is a completely personal engagement and it has nothing to do with others opinions or perspectives.

  • If that were actually true Joel Osteen wouldn't have 25 mill. dollar church donated by BankofAmerica and the Vatican would not be investing in profitable ventures.

There is nothing close and personal about millions of folks crawling over each other to touch the building where a pet rock resides.

That some folks bike down streets to pass out literature indicates religion is the least personal engagement man has created.

Eternal torure is a threat against everyone by a few to claim authority.

  • My thoughts on the subject are my opinion. My beliefs have nothing to do with what others do I won't be answering for them and they have no sway over my life at all. I don't believe the choices that other men and women make should be used against me because of what I personally choose to believe. So whether or not you think it is personal it very much is because really the only thing you can trust is what you believe.

  • We OUGHT to dissolve the political parties that place their agendas before our constitution. Social laws must have precedence over any of your man made gods. Religions are just sub-governments that remove sanity from societies. "Stanford, tear down that church." Religion has no business in the academic temples of learning.

  • [1] these.."academic" temples, such as princeton, harvard, yale, etc etc were started primarily to further the christian faith.

[2] in western civ, it was priests and clergy who were the academics, and the various faculties which now comprise the line up at universities grew out of this christian tradition.

[3]two of the most insane socieites known, nazi germany and commie russia, got that way by trying to impose an atheistic worldview!

  • You don't seem to know your history very well; Hitler was a Catholic and Stalin was just a psychopath. Hitler was also supported by the Pope. Atheist don't have a world view nor do we have an organized religious BS doctrine. Rule of law does not require religious dogma and it is applicable to all. Do you want your representatives voting according to the Vatican or according to the people that put them in office?

  • [1] Hitler was born Catholic, and that's about all he had to do with christianity. He was influenced by Nietsche , Shoepenauer and Darwin, and persecuted the Catholic church. Hiter was a cocktail of Neitschean and Darwinist philosophy combined with Aryan mythology, he thought Christianity weak and unworthy of the master race.

[2]Stalin studied for the priesthood, but converted to atheism.

[3]Both gave the rulers justification for the brutalities they committed.

  • I am just let you know my opinion

Religion is the source of ethics. Just because few people have failed to follow religion does not mean religion is a waste.

No wonder our society is slowly changing to "survival of the fittest" from "all are equal".

  • Religion is not the only source of ethics. And your country is not failing because it rejects god, its actualy one of the most religious countries in the world. Your country sucks because it was led by a retard for 8 years. Your country was powerful, but for 8 years it was used for evil BY A RELIGIOUS man. Don't blame the atheists, your country was ruined by a Christian.

  • looking back, it now seems clearer that akthough in principle religion, in particular christianity, professes 'all are equal,' its practice has been very feudalistic. christianity and other forms survive precisely because it is the fittest. now that information is available to anyone, it is experiencing challenges to its 'stature' of 'mythmaking.' for the better part, information leads us to assess beliefs that were once 'untouchable.'

  • lost its flavor? lol, i prefer to think we finally shed the "leave it to beaver" bullshit and began confronting our problems.

  • why stanford did not invite islamic speakers?
