  • Scruffing ferrets is poor, unless it is to be used as an emergency. People are not ferrets. Ferrets scruffing each other for mothering or pecking order reasons is normal. Horses kick and bite each other to sort out pecking order, but is a human kicking a horse ok?...cause other horses do it?! Yawning can mean many things, but it primarily means lack of oxygen to the brain. Create a strong bond with your ferret, then you will never need the excuse to scruff.

  • DONT buy a ferret from these type of retailers!

Go to a ferret hospital / adoption building.

They do research on you and decide whether or not you should own 1 and ferrets are not a pet for kids!

  • @jameswray50 I did the quiz already. I got great results and it decided for me to own one. And I'm a tween, so it's for certain kids.

  • guys, if ur ganna be rude DONT FREAKING WATCH IT

  • Scruffing a ferret or anything really does not hurt them. Obviously not an adult cat or dog but when they're young it makes them feel more comfortable if you do this gently every now and then.

  • fuck off

  • This does not hurt the ferret he is yawning cause he enjoys it

  • Yeah i'm sure they are relaxed being healed like that

  • lmao, it can't stop yawning

  • @Pumacat101 OHH! OHH! IMMA REPORT ALL ANIMAL MOTHERS TO PETA! THEY HOLD THEIR BABIES BY THE SCRUFF OF THEIR NECKS! My my, momma's rippin' her babie's fur out! Momma's an animal abuser! *le gasp*

  • stfu damm make it a big deal

  • meanies my mom gets mad when i hold them like that

  • @ilovenms It dosent fucking hurt. Its loose skin they can't feel it. You fucking dumbass.

  • @ilovenms well tell her shes a idiot....

  • To all the retards out there think of it this way, when a mom ferret holds her baby, shes not gonna get up on 2 legs and hold it....she bites down on that spot and carries places wile it swings around in her MOUTH, so by her holding it with a soft palm and holding it still, it doesnt harm it, think of it this way, go to the back of your elbow, and grab the skin, youl notice you bassically dont feel anything, you can even pinch it, thats what its like for them :)

  • Ferret :WOW! I'm full of energy, wanna play, wanna run, wanna jump!

    Woman grabs scruff of neck

    Ferret :So tired ...

  • Nigger ferret! (noose)

  • @Pumacat101 did you know that it doesn't hurt them?! they have much tougher skin than us }:(

  • Yeah I sometimes carry my cat by the scruff and he doesn't mind, its just a way for the mother to carry her young in an easier and frankly less painful fashion.

  • @Pumacat101 the vets you spoke to where obviously trained in a hut in africa because there is no way on earth you can rip fur out by scruffing. its physically impossible. ask someone with a degree next time. By the way, before you start insulting me, I have more degrees than you have fingers. Veterinary Medicine & Surgery, Veterinary Biosciences, Zoology, Marine and Fresh water biology, Mathematical Sciences and I am also an animal behaviouralist. Take your uneducated ass to video jug. asshole

  • Pet owner: *Scruff holds ferret*

    Ferret: *Yawn... sleepy!*

  • "Its a ferret thing" - Best comment ever.

  • I'm not a dumbass. I was just saying wat I think is true, seriously you don't need to be so rude. get a life and GROW UP!. You tube isn't for calling names it's for information and entertainment, and if your idea of entertainment is wat your doing then stop wasting peoples time including mine

  • when scruffing is done properly it won't hurt the ferret, it'll just make it yawn most of the time and relax, if the ferret yelps in pain then you're doing it wrong, it's a procedure to handle and control the ferret safely and effectively, i hope that i've brought some sense into some of the dumbasses out there

  • No she is wrong only the mother can hold it by the neck and only till they are older then she stops, this ferret is way to big even for it's mother to do it :1

  • @ThePumpkinthecat

only because they're big enough to walk themselves. That skin doesn't shrink. Seeing everyother damn person says otherwise, you may want to look that up

  • I just bought a ferret and 2months old I tried this and it made a weird noise I did not know ferrets can bark is this normal it was not a angry sound and not really a bark but I can not describe it well is my ferret normal if there is such a thing it runs around a ferret proof room like a cat on crack or speed and always shits in the corner to wear I had to put a litter box there I really like the little guy though

  • a person can write comments about stuff without using foul language icydeath7. it is really sad when you can't use enough of the English language minus the swearing! there are kids that use this page too, so show some respect for others on here, use that language elsewhere.

  • haha it's yawning... cute <3

  • IcyDeath...clean up your mouth......

    ,

    your IQ is showing

  • @UtahDesertRat My IQ is 122 dumb-dumb

  • how to you clean its cage

  • Its so cute when they yawn like that. A friend had a ferret and i fell in love with him. want one! i want one!!!!

  • My Ferrets don't seem to respond to scruffing at all, they just squirm out of my hold and continue on with whatever they're doing. The last thing they do is go into a submissive state. Is there a trick to this?

  • @NightwishGymnast15 If they dont seem to respond right away, dont let them go. eventually they will realise that they cant get away and stop trying.

  • Wow u guys are dumb -_- scruffing a ferret does not hurt them, ferret skin is alot tougher than human skin and even among themselves they would scruff eachother to show dominance and its also a way a mother ferret would move her babies... all it does is basicaly make them body tired, hence the yawn...

  • @JaceBlade yea there not hurt 0.0 i uset to pick up my kitten like tht

  • O.o That ferret is just like... screaming in silent horror...

  • @FrozenNight1 lol. i have owned ferrets for 7 years now and i assure you it doesn't hurt. besides it's only for 2 mins to take care of their ears and nails. she must have an overly rambunctious ferret for it to still be struggling

  • Blood and nerve supply apparantly.

  • "This makes them relax.." *Ferret struggles to get free* 0:48 Lol what an idiot.

  • to all the dumbshits out there

scruffing does not hurt the animal. it is loose skin usually used to transport young animals safely or assert dominance. animals do it since it makes animals weak. I dont condone always carrying animals by the scruff but only do it if you need the animal in a weak state for something not transportation. If scruffing hurts your animal then youre doing it fucking wrong. again this doesnt hut your fucking animals.

  • @IcyDeath7 my grandpa does that with his cats and they dont yelp or hiss in pain

  • Thts not a yawn thts I dont like fat chicks

  • I don't care what anyone says, I will never hold my ferrets like this. It looks very uncomfortable and hurtful >_>

  • @Kantasyxx i totally agree and when she was holding it like that like it wanted to bite her X) i wouldn't blame him

  • @Kantasyxx Though a lot of things say that it does look very uncomfortable. D:

  • @Kantasyxx An expert, AN EXPERT, thought I would repeat that; told you it does not hurt them. IT MAKES THEM RELAX.

  • @OpenEnchances People from expert village are a bunch of retards.

  • @Kantasyxx I happened to do a bit of research, and scruffing the animal does not hurt them. Exactly as that girl said.

  • @Kantasyxx u are obviously an idiot and you clearly now nothing about why animals have a scruff. If u have ever seen a mother moving her young she will almost always carry them by the scruff. If the animal was in any pain, it would show that, which they clearly dont.

  • who else had to yawn?

  • @hansberrylovesyoux3 then where do you buy an animal

  • My ferrets actually hated being grabbed by the neck like that. They'd squirm more when I clipped the nails. I just held them, holding their butt and my sis would cut their nails fine. They felt more relaxed that way. But I think some ferrets are different.

  • Is it true ferrets like to bite sometimes? If so why are they so aggressive? At least that is what I heard.

  • @panda374 They like to play bite a bit but just as a dog or cat would and they are not aggressive at all, just very playful. (Their bites don't hurt)

  • I dont care if holding them by the neck hurts them or not, but it looks like it cant breathe. /:

  • @parozia they can breathe just fine as it doesnt constrict the body at all. if you have a ferret, dog or a cat, if you pull slightly on the back of the neck, you will realise that there is basically a big bit of skin. its primary use is for the mother to transport her young. if you watch "ferrets moving their babies" on youtube you see the parents lifting and moving their young.

  • @ThePrivateJoker You have to BAKE them...

  • uuuuuuuu, destroyed!

  • @Pumacat101 then you haven't read many books

  • 0:35 he knows what is coming and looks at the camera and says "what the FUCK?"

  • so cute how they yawn

  • i dont think that ferrets yawning it looks like its trieng to screem for help

  • @ilovezchu4ever nope lol, its not as comfortable as she makes out, but it doesn't hurt them, when a ferret is in an uncomfortable position they will yawn :)

  • Lol @ the arguments about scruffing. Pahaha. It's normal (: Chill the hell out. Ferrets<3

  • @HerMajestyTheLlama to right!

most animals have the extra bit of skin on their necks to be scruffed by their parents.

And besides, when a ferret latches on, it takes alot for them to let go, 2 minutes of scruffing can save 20 minutes of pain.

  • @Aussietactical Yup. Cats are a great example for that. I totally agree with your last comment. Scruffing causes no pain to the animal, just kinda immobilizes them.

  • All of the "animal information" videos are short, wrong, and idiotic. They know nothing about what they are talking about.

  • I got five ferrets and I never treat them like that. If you truly love your pets then you will always find a way to treat them nice and with a lot of care.

  • oh...yea...the ferret looks SOOOO relaxed....... NOT!

  • There is something to it. It's true - mothers carry their offspring like that. If a ferret bites, it's a good thing to grab them by the necki - like in the vid, but using just your thumb and index finger. This makes the ferret calmer - they barely move in that position. Until they get uesd to that. Plus - when ferrets play, they grab each other's necks as well. It's not animal abuse!

  • It's not animal abuse this is how there mothers carry them when there babies and it makes them fall asleep they don't feel a thing

  • fucking bitch! animal abuse!

  • FAKE FAKE FAKE! THEY SHOULD BE ARRESTED FOR ANIMAL ABUSE AND MANIPULATION OF MILLIONS OF PEOPLE!

  • @Morbid666999 If you have ever owned a ferret then you would realize that this is what most everyone does. It is not animal abuse it is just part of the typical ferret care. They go limp and yawn and when you let go they act just as crazy as they always act. Take it to a vet and they will do the same thing while treating it

  • What do I do if I have long nails??

  • I just pick my ferret up when he's first waking up, lay him on his back and cut the claws, works just fine.

  • @Pumacat101 Furthermore, countless billions of ferrets, not to mention cats and dogs, have been lifted by the scruff over the centuries. Can you show me just one article documenting any injury from that? Just one? Why is there not a flood of articles warning about it? Why is it not common knowledge? And, why do so many animals do it wrong by carrying their babies around by the scruff? Maybe you should be warning them, too.

It's clear that someone has missed the boat, and that someone is YOU!

  • It does not take two people to clip claws. Roll a towel into a "V" shape, put ferret on his back in "V" and quickly apply FerreTone to his chest. He will be totally preoccupied with licking and won't even notice that you clipped his claws. This also works when doing other procedures.

  • @Pumacat101 Name them. Name the books you've read saying not to scruff.

Try telling that to any vet and they'll laugh you out the door! How do you think they give a (highly) reluctant cat of dog treatment without getting torn to shreds? BY FORCE! And that involves a LOT of holding by the scruff (with leather gloves some times).

So, know it all, prove what you say - list the book(s).

  • wow these guys have EVERYTHINGG

  • @Pumacat101

Ferret Scruffing is natural, normal and pretty standard for ferrets. It's an instinctial trigger from when they are young, as their mothers carry them around by the scruff. Ferrets are "taught" to go limp when scruffed from a very early age. It does not hurt them in any way.

Clearly you have no idea what you're talking about, and just want to troll to be a general nuisance. Any crackhead can do that. Try educating yourself first, then elicit verbal diarrhea.

  • is it illegal to own ferrets in california? how do i purchase one and how much do they go for?

  • @apriljerry09

Sadly it is illegal to buy or sell them in cali. You'll have to go to a neighboring state if you want to buy them...unless you can find someone selling them near you. Just be careful, ad it can land you a pretty nasty fine if you're caught buying or selling them.

  • As soon as I saw that holding technique I used it on my ferret then sure enough he yawned!! <3

  • @Pumacat101 you don't know what you're talking about, end of.

  • fken captions i hate ur vid

  • @Pumacat101 Idiot. Try actually knowing a little about what you want to preach and hurl insults about before you open your ignorant mouth.

  • @Pumacat101 UR NOT CHOCKING A FERRET DUMBASSS U DONT KNOW WHAT UR TALKING ABOUT

  • @Pumacat101 ur so fuking dumb u dumbass it would be making wierd noises u stupid lil dum fuking ass mother fucking bitch who do u think u r a ferret expert ? so u dont say shit

  • @Pumacat101 if she was hurting the ferret it would have been letting out high pitch whimpering sounds and sharp inhaling hisses.

  • Liar. She's not a veterinarian. Maybe a vegetarian. Not a Vet. She's soo stupid and Petland sucks.

  • @Pumacat101 Cool, but I really just wanted you to stop being so preachy, it's kind of annoying.

  • @Pumacat101 Ferrets yawn when you hold them by the scruff. Mother ferrets pick their kits up by the scruff and this notion puts them to sleep. Holding them by the scruff doesn't even hurt. Its like pinching on the skin on the outside of your elbows. The loose skin has very little feeling. If you knew about ferrets, you would know this. Please do your research before you start cursing people about what they are doing.

  • you are so stupid!!! bitch!!!

  • @joasiam1987 shut the fuck up

  • @Pumacat101 Shut the fuck up

  • @Pumacat101 how is it in any pain? they do yawn when they are picked up. i know ferrets

  • @Pumacat101

    Dude.

Shes an Effin' veterinarian! she knows what shes talking about so don't go saying things when you don't know anything about what you're talking about.

  • looks like im not getting 1 looks like caring for a dog is easier

  • it culdent brethe oviosly!

  • do ferrets need shots?

  • @PinpuleCp They need rabies and distemper vaccines annually along with monthly heartworm prevention.

  • @SmallPetChannel for little things they sure make you spent qite some cash,

  • @PinpuleCp i second that lol

  • @PinpuleCp Yes, they need distemper and rabies shots annually. they also need monthly heartworm provention.

  • Sleepy ferret! they get so tired sometimes!

  • Right, dont ever take them by the scruff. They HATE it. Their mothers do this to them when theyre young and thats it, its like sucking your mums boob in the street, to them its like low self respect.

It yawns because with the skin being held at the back, its tight at the front and so it needs to breath. The ferret is being chocked.

Hold your ferret in one hand around the shoulders under the neck with your forefinger under the legs. You dont need to support its rear end this way, but you can do .

  • @metalbananaman

man that ferret was lucky as hell..... if i could get stoned by having the back of my neck grabbed i would walk around all day looking like i'm getting arrested

  • It would be easier to understand if it was a hot lady in bikini that was talking then that shit head

  • I thought ferrets are in pain if you do that but thanks anyway im going to try this on my ferret

  • Almost always yawn ur hurting him I herd him squell

  • @Sourpatchkid3252 He didn't squeal, that was a critter in the background. If ferrets are in pain they let you know about it!

She did scruff him for a bit too long but she's also right, he's not in any pain and that is how you would want to hold them to clip their nails etc.

  • lol looks like a little baby. What a cute little animal. I want one, Even though it will prob drop long turds on my carpet.

  • She is NOT an expert... Although scruffing may not hurt them, she should not continue holding him.. Poor ferret! :(

  • @AlyssaStar09

Its in no pain or discomfort, its how there mothers would hold them as infants anyway, cats do the same thing.

Shes simply demonstrating the correct way to hold them while trimming there hair.

  • @STUNTS1516 I am aware that there is no pain. I don't need you to teach me. I have 2 ferrets myself...I was only saying she should not continue you to hold him because it was not necessary. And what do you mean "trimming their hair"?? You mean clean out their ears?

  • I never support my ferret when I scruff her and she is always fine. I am able to scruff her and trim her nails myself by having the other hand free. Using small regular finger nail clippers works fine. I find that trimming them sideways as opposed to the way humans trim their nails, you can cut them easily and they tend to crack or break a lot less.

  • everyone who hasn't noticed, should know that expertvillage never has experts on their videos.

  • uhm, you should NEVER clean your ferrets ear with a mild dog or cat ear cleaner. make sure you get a FERRET EAR CLEANER or go to your vet to do it. also, when holding the scruff of your ferret you should NEVER let them dangle!!! ferrets tend to become very squirmy so you need to make sure that you are holding them securely. I give my ferrets a treat while clipping their nails and it seems to work much better! THIS GIRL HAS NO IDEA WHAT SHE'S TALKING ABOUT!

  • @amykhueber A cheaper thing than using ferret ear cleaner is using your own spit or olive oil .

  • @FaithTheVampire i noticed it,when she says clean only the outer part of the ear at about 1:21,thats the vets way of doing stuff so they dont get bit, most vets i have come across are affraid of ferrets if they are a bit fidgitty.lol..never hold there scruff and dangle them like she did,its ok when they are tiny baby's like there mother would do but never an adult, theres to much weight, well had to comment.lol..have a good day all

  • Never buy a ferret in a pet store.. Most of the time they are way to old.

  • Please don't clip nails unless you've done it well before an know what you're doing...many people hurt ferrets by clipping badly. Just go to a pet groomed to do it.

  • Never buy and animal from Petland. The dogs are from PuppyMills, and the other animals are from factories. The employees don't know about this, so most customers don't know about it. When you take the puppies home, over 80% get very sick within a week. Please boycott Petland.

  • wow thats not good im never using petland!

  • @Ealisha123 What's not good?

  • @hansberrylovesyoux3 If that's true then I'm with you with the boycott.

  • @hansberrylovesyoux3 i know right. i got a hamster from petland and shes just fine, but i hate puppy mills! i haven't been there since may

  • @hansberrylovesyoux3 It's unfortunate that it's the truth, because Petland has a fairly decent setup for their stores and animals. It's almost like you wouldn't think about it, but I knew this for a while and that's why I just go to a local, non-chain, pet-store for my animals, because their animals actually come from registered breeders.

  • @hansberrylovesyoux3

    This is very true....

Had to learn the hard way.

  • @hansberrylovesyoux3 How bout pet coe >.>

  • ferrets are one of the most coolest pets ever

  • aww sooo cute and very helpful

  • aww i want a ferret soo bad and im willing to work and take best care for it

  • my ferret is fat

  • She is right in some things but not all ferrets do like to be taking in the neck "some" of them get very angry and bite but maybe there is some lucky persons that have a ferret that like that so she have some good points there so you guys who say "she dont know a shit" read "Ferrets for dummies" and learn more be4 u come with ur shit comments.

  • if any one wants to see a video of me catching a ferret on fire and then kicking it around check out my profile! i love ferrets!

  • great info thanx

  • YAWN "oh its a ferret thing"

  • "Nerve Supply", huh? Ya, she really sounds like she knows what she's talking about...

  • rofl look at how much it yawns just from grabbing the scruff. It goes ragdoll lol

  • my ferret is abnormal , he is hard to scruff and doesn't yawn or anything it doesnt hardly work on him hardly at all, the vet found this out too when I took him in about his ears

  • She´s not having control of the ferret at all...

Summarizing her vids, she´s not having a clue of what she´s doing...

  • use marshalls ferret ear cleaner

  • ty.mines 4 months old.now i know.

  • i got mine for $80 australian

  • FFS here u can get 1 for 750 USD PFFFFFFFFF unfair...

  • when i scruff my ferret s fall asleep when i scruff them

  • @FerretsForMe123 me too lol

  • I used to look after a couple of ferrets kept outdoors at a natural science animal rehabilitation center

local zoo we had in town,

    one was named 'Squeaky',

    funny little things.

  • ahhhaaaa 129 dollarss? they are £7 here.

  • I'm glad to see some information videos to help educate potential ferret owners. We have 5 ferrets currently and of the 8 we've had 7 were rescues.

  • How much do they cost.

  • the most we paid for a ferret was $129 at Petco. We've only bought one from a pet store. 2 we were given. 2 we bought/rescued from feed/livestock stores. 2 we adopted from a ferret shelter back in phoenix and one i bought off of craigslist for $50. The ones from the shelter we got for $50 a piece as well. It's important to have a good vet that knows ferrets. they are pretty high maint and do have a lot of disease that can shorten thier little lives.

  • Thats awsome good to see some people rescueing animals instead of buying new ones. =)

  • we actually were just given another little boy. So we're currently owned by 6 of the little fur-nados.

  • Do ferrets bury their poop like cats does?

  • No,

  • Ooh btw, their cages if outside cat litter stuff works best to soak up fluids such as their wee lol, small amount, it might go somewhere, they eat lots but fill the bowl every 2-3 days. Water once a day, and I would clean them out about two-three a week :)

PS: they need lots of space, they are hyperactive mammels when they are awake

  • Haha, ferret yawning, classic. Don't blame him lol :P

  • am want to get a ferret but i dont know what to put in their cage or what food they eat some1 plz reply

  • just a big cage or hutch and u can buy ferret food from oet shops and they eat meat!

  • Best ferret foods have 38% or higher crude protien. Do not use cat food. too many fillers and non meat protien ingredients.

  • you {sarah} almost killed my rabbit by your info

  • the chick should have went to specsavers :o)

  • I am interested in getting a ferret, however, my mom is concerned about their smell. I have herd mixed things about if ferrets smell or not, do they?

  • I have had several ferrets, most ferrets have there scent glands removed. But like dogs, they do have a musky odor, but its not as bad as some will say.

  • well I work with ferrets and when you stood next to their cage you CAN'T smell them but when you actually smell the ferret you do smell it, but only if your nose is right next to it, I suppose it also dpends on how clean you keep their cage. How this helped.

  • thank you for your help.

  • Most defiantly yes. but you can have their scent glands removed.

  • Sorry but when I read you comment I just had tot react: You CAN'T have their scent glands removed cause if you do , they get tumors and it's not natural for the little animal. So please read this and do not remove their glands.

  • They do have a small odor. In HOB ferrets which is an male ferret it can be a horrid smell. Yet if you get a neutered one this will be less of a problem. I think you should get one they are loads of fun,

    <
