interesting technique. the issue I have is that a trained opponent wouldn't be stationary. They would be trained to riposte and parry while moving to the side. They wouldnt stand idle for the throw. It would also be less than useful except in a solo combat and you risk a lot if a glancing blow deflects off armor leaving you open to attack. I would also expect a swordsman of chinese training to move in as you draw your sword back for the throw removing the ability. Looks Fun though!
@knivesandstuff My opponent is a trained partner from a Chinese martial arts Miao Dao club.
IIt was a demo of sparring between me and him. So he was not told to stand still at all. We were sparring for 2 mins and more and at the last 30 seconds something, I started doing sword throwing.
As you can see, it hit 100%. There's tricks behind the high hit rate though to ensure that. I totally agree that it's only good for solo combat and risky too.
@LancelotChan Well.. good on you all for getting out there and doing it, and thanks for sharing.. I just cant imagine throwing my main weapon away.. haha :D all the best.
@knivesandstuff Hheheh I won't be doing it for a regular sparring. It was a demo bout where I was supposed to show a large variety of techniques so there it comes.
Ideally, it would be a move against highest odd against the swordsman. Such as facing a spear user, or a ranged weapon.
I totally agree that it was not wise to do it in regular situation, sword vs sword. This is just a showcase. :)
