I'm singing this song soon for a concert, and I am so pleased to be performing yet another Benson classic. :) If I get enough replies, I might post the video of my performance...
i'm in this show right now, i play sandra kay, but my really good friend plays doria. and she's one of the best singers ive ever heard, but jodi benson always wins.
Jodi Benson is amazing i had the pleasure of met her a few times and saw her in concert twice also i took pictures with her and autograph she is a sweetheart, i can't wait to see her again soon!!
When we lost Howard Ashman, Disney lost the spark that made their animated films so magical. Ashman and Menken could pull magic outta thin air. Sheer genius, connecting with the audience like we rarely see anymore.
I saw this musical Smile, in 1986, in New York City. I remember only this song, and searched for it for the long time. At last I found this! Thank you for uploading.
I got to sing this song in my theatre class, and my teacher said I was amazing and that he was speechless, and I pretty much sang this song like the girl in this video!
i loved how i ronic it is that this was before Alladin was even a concept, and yet they still reference magic carpets, and jodi benson hadn't been cast as Ariel nor Howard Ashman became the lyricist for Little Mermaid.
This song is amazing and has great meaning. I will be prefoming this song on may 27, 2010 and will be just as amazing and i hope the audience gets the meaning just like i did. ENJOY THE SONG FOR THOSE WHO HAVNT HEARD IT BEFORE...<3
love this song! i get to sing it for my play. its ironic cause this is the same girl from little mermaid and i used to sing part of your world all the time!
actually, there was a cast album. but they only sold it for a very short time and you can't get it any where anymore. lucky for me, this summer i was in this play and my director had bought an album when it came out so we all got copies of it!
Memories..... Howard's Mom Shirley was a regular at a piano bar that I used to work out neat Baltimore... I remember when I 1st heard this song -Genius!!! And Howard's Mom, singing "Beauty and the Beast" - amazzzing!
More ironic is the song has lyrics by the late Howard Ashman, who was Alan Menken's writing partner for "Little Shop" "Little Mermaid" "Beauty and the Beast" and "Aladdin".
Her vibrato is so bubbly! So many parts of this song sound so Ariel, Jodi is fantastic here :)

I love how when says "care" and laughs a little at 2:06, especially because she does the same thing multiple times as Ariel!

Did you ever find the MP3 of this? I have the one Kerry Butler sang on her album but I'd prefer to have Jodi singing it.

There's a few versions on iTunes. The one by Kerry Butler is the only one by a girl I've seen there. There was no cast album of this show.

You all know, don't you - that the singer, Jodi Benson is Ariel (The Little Mermaid.)

jasobres 3 years ago 2
Not really ironic. Menkin and Ashman gave the part of Ariel to Jodi after Smile. Well deserved because her voice is amazing.
She's made an entire career being Ariel.

Oh, I get what you're saying. No, the character is not 11, but she is remembering to back when she was, and first saw Disneyland on TV.

No, its just that I sing this song in my acting class and I thought it was for a kid to sing really.
