What Dr Chee said was very true, the rich get richer and poor get poorer. I'm from a bottom end of a middle class family and thus not qualified for any welfare, things are getting more and more expensive yet our wages still remain the same. What's the Govt doing? Those who fight for a change for correcting error will help the next generation and our children. Smart and intelligent cannot equate wisdom.

Alot of people do not understand what the job of an opposition bench is: it is to negate and to examine the loop-holes of the ruling party. That is the job of what an opposition is meant to do. Likewise, if SDP became the ruling party of Singapore, the other opposition parties (ie: PAP, WP, NSP,etc) will have to play the part of watchdog and negator. Therefore, that's what they are doing. In fact, all oppo parties have gone a step further to propose counter measures. Which is awesome.

2.15 hit the nail on the head..B4 i've even got my growth dividend credited to my a/c, i was slapped with increase in property tax letter, a few hundred $ prorated from May to end 2011. Mind you, this is not a one-off increase in tax but one that i will have to bear every year from now on. What Dr Chee said was very true, the rich get richer and poor get poorer. I'm from a bottom end of a middle class family and thus not qualified for any welfare, things are getting more and more expensive yet our wages still remain the same. What's the Govt doing? Civil servants no longer get the benefits as before, while most of my friends in the private sectors are on contract basis. Is the Govt doing anything to help us? Right now I don't see that coming.

It's apparent that the targeted audience of this speech is the non-English speaking elderly segment of the population. This are issues that matter to them. It is delivered in a manner that they will be able to relate to.
For those critics who say that this is surface level, I invite you to listen to his broadcasts in English. Dr Chee is not a phD holder by accident. He knows what he's talking about.

While the points raised are complaints frequently heard, are they reason for a change in political party?
Inflation is part of growth and rising taxes fund government efforts to channel resources where they are needed e.g. utilities subsidies for the poor so why is it that bad to increase the taxes of those who are able to pay? How can we simultaneously complain that not enough help is given to the poor?

Alot of people do not understand what the job of an opposition bench is: it is to negate and to examine the loop-holes of the ruling party. That is the job of what an opposition is meant to do. Likewise, if SDP became the ruling party of Singapore, the other opposition parties (ie: PAP, WP, NSP,etc) will have to play the part of watchdog and negator. Therefore, that's what they are doing. In fact, all oppo parties have gone a step further to propose counter measures. Which is awesome.

I would say it's a good job trying to explain it in simple hokkien with a mix of chinese. It's not easy picking dialects up if you're not native to it. .Addressing the simple concerns of ordinary people. Certainly different from the years where you were pursuing confrontational politics. 2.15 hit the nail on the head..B4 i've even got my growth dividend credited to my a/c, i was slapped with increase in property tax letter, a few hundred $ prorated from May to end 2011. Mind you, this is not a one-off increase in tax but one that i will have to bear every year from now on. So, i was given some money on one hand, but i am coughing out a lot more than what i've been given on the other. Ultimately it's my pocket that's being squeezed to fund these handouts. I'm so totally pissed.
