Namibia is a great place to hunt; the rock desert is an interesting place resembling the surface of MARS with its red rock desert, mountain preceps and desolate growth. The Skeleton Coast is a wonderful opportunity to see one of Gods wonders that many never take the time to enjoy.
Not only does it look wild, but it is still very much true wilderness country with a nomadic lifestyle and basic living conditions. All the meat, other than the little bit your guide will take so you cans taste it, is divided up, and a much appreciated staple for these people.
hi jerry, i dont think they live 'On' them, but rather in a 4000 man camp that is couple of miles away. the crews work for weeks at a time. It will crush your spirit. i worked there for three months
you really need to come and try for the big whitetails. black bear is one of my 'cursed' trophys. you may want to try eastern central Alberta or even Saskatchewan for birds.
ive called wolves to within 40 yards. good luck and shoot strait
just kidding, my wwife and i went to south africa june 008, got 'we jumped the broom' married right in the hunt camp. i got a gems, black faced impala, and regular impala, red hbeest, warty, the wife got a 51 kudu, 32" waterbuck, 27" impala, warthog, 23" bluwild
I hunted Black Bear about an hout out of Ft. McMurry along the Fire Bag River. First time I had ever seen a tar sand operation. The size of the cranes were amazing. I understand the entire crew lives in them complete with cook?
Did ok on the Bear, no Wolf. Would like to return for some Goose hunting some day.
thats a great gun for the small er stuff but i recommend a 300 win mag to a 375 ruger with barnes mrx bullets for the bigger plains game (kudu, oryx, wildebeest etc.) btw i have had great success on duiker with a 270 win using barnes all of the barnes bullets
It is hard to argue with a 300 win mag. I do not own one, I do have a 300 savage 1940's production. It is an awesome caliber and will reach out and touch the game, I've seen many guys use the 300 win mag for long shots with great sucess on the larger game. Keep on Huntin!
That is awesome, it is always a special think to harvest game with a gun given to you by a family member, espically if they are no longer with you. Keep on Huntin!!!
your right it really is and i am very glad to say i will be hunting coyote (with light bullets and less powder) with it since he passed away a couple of weeks ago thanks again
It's a great gun, fast and flat shooting. Allot of hunters use them. I like a larger gun unless you are hunting in open desert. Most of the plains game hunting is done in areas with thick thorn bush or tall grass, all of which is not good for a fast bullet like a 270. A 7 mm mag or 300 with a 180 grain bullet is much better for these areas especially on the larger plains game like Kudu and Gimsbok. You will have more knock down power with the larger caliber and heavier bullet.
Part 2: In most places in Africa you are charged for wounded animals lost and not found. You will have better chances of finding a wounded animal with a larger caliber bullet, more blood etc. You can bring two guns without problem as long as they are not the same caliber. The 270 is great for Springbok, Dik Dik, Baboon and other small African game found on most plains game hunts. If you have any more questions please contact me. I will be lion hunting on the Kalahari 6-20 to 6-29. Good luck!
