Is this Halo and Starship Troopers?! Starship troopers make the IG look like elite soldiers and don't get me started on Spartans v. Space Marines. Actually, it seems that even in the game their made to be cannon fodder. Their minimum squad sizes are much bigger than those of other factions.  But they do have better tanks. How come nobody ever depicts them with tank backup. That's when the IG kicks ace.

The IG are a defensive force, their motto is hold the line, they just hold their ground and then counter attach with their tank regements. you need sheer weight of fire to win with IG or simply a few baneblades

Yeah, true I guess.  Even when I played Dawn of War: Winter Assault, it seemed as though the IG was used mainly a time-buyers. I'm gonna see if I can find any battle reports with IG. This has all made me more curious on how they'd fare against various enemies on their own.

The IG are a tough opponent if the other player can play them right. If they loss moral, well then their screwed. But once they roll out their tanks, boy you better have a good force because those tanks will be behind the enemy line and eatting you up. Like I said thought, they only good if the person playing them knows what hes doing.

Well IG alone are a pretty good force simply becasue you are rolling so many dice you are BOUND to get quite a few kills in one round. As per morale for a few extra points you can just have vox casters on the feild giving every IG unit leadership 10. It comes down to whether this is your first army, if it is go tanks simply to conserve army size casue 300 guardsmen,seargents and commisars are a LOT to paint unless you enjoy doing so.
