Looks like during the test shot the actor is wearing the body part of the suit but wearing a cowboy hat on his head. It's this behind the scenes shot that led to the street-performer rumors, but the high-res pic from the movie proves that the director clearly wanted this thing to look like a robot/monster instead of human.
