hey, i have a ps3 fat 80 gb, and just a few minutes ago, my ps3 sent me a message in the upper right corner of my tv screen stating that my system is hot and may overheat, then it told me to shut it down. Also the ps3 console itself was flash red and blue. I think this is know as the red kiss of death or the red blink of death.

2 known reasons why this happens Red or yellow light of death....

1) GPU/CPU has over heated and has seperated from the board

2) Corrupt Data on HDD or HDD has Failed

Solutions? call sony repair anywhere form $150 to $250 and no guarantee it wont happen again. buy a new one. or Mod the ps3 with a large high rpm fan and or water cool the damn thing ither way you go its ganna cost you bot time and money. i took the cheap way out. took it apart my self and fixed it but im also a computer tech.

@Atomizer65 I bought a ps3 cooling fan which works very well to prevent this problem. Just make sure it doesn't get damaged and plugs well into the ps3. Mine broke and wouldn't stay on. Now i have the f'n red blinking light of death. F'n crap!!!!

@Cwood2663 Yea. If you let it cool down, it'll turn back on, but then after maybe 20 or 30 minutes of using it, it will die again... don't use it until it gets fixed otherwise... consider getting a new ps3.

i jus got it fix for £15! the guy said when it over heats the soldering cracks on some board inside the ps3 so it stops working. peeps fix it for £25-£35 on the net but i got lucky & got a guy who charged £15. all the guys i rang did say it will last for around 3 months so il see what happens. it doesn't happen on ps3 slims.

At least if we get the red light on our XBOX 360, we don't have to start over with everything. On the PS3 if you get the red light Game Over. you can't take your hard drive out and put it inside a different PS3 like you can do on the XBOX 360.

Actually, PS3 uses Sata hard drives and yes you can take them out and pop it into another PS3 and it will work. There is also fixes for this problem that are a lot more logical then wrapping a towel around a system.
