though i was only around nine years old at the time, i remember this cup final like it was last week. red hot day, all the kids playing footy in the street, keep nipping in just to see what the players were having for breakfast, then me aul fella inviting all the neighbours round, draw the curtains for a better pic cause the tellys were shite, then watch the game.
the only bad thing was the result... im a liverpool fan.
My first FA cup final, heady days! Different era. This vid' ends just as Liverpool walk to the united end. Emelyn and the boys applauded the united fans every step of the way,as did we them. Scousers did the same when united went to their end. Both sets of fans and players were a credit that day!
Great support, always have, always fill our ground, biggest average att even when relegated. The first club to take masses away from home.Prawn sandwiches my arse! I remember this game, there wasnt as much hatred then, it was a great day and we had far more fans than the Liverpool lot. But there fans had travelled more than most that year and had a great team to be fair, we used to take 20,000 away regularly in the 70s, great day, we were there when we were shit! lol
The parish was the birthplace of the Newton Heath Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Football Club which was established in 1878 and later become the world famous Manchester United. It began life as a football team formed by Frederick Attock, a Liverpudlian who was a superintendent engineer of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway(L&YR).
Strange how Man Utd would get the better of Liverpool in one off games but Liverpool would win all the trophies. It's kind of been the opposite in the last decade or so.
We were poor that day, but made up for it on the following Wednesday night in the European Cup Final. This was Utd's only trophy of the decade. Greenhoffs goal had more jam than Hartley's.
@ExScouserExRN Agreed, our only trophy for a decade and in the shadow of a fantastic Liverpool side. But we were the best supported side in the country and was 10 years before and still are, even when we were relegated to division 2, Glory hunters we are not.
my dad told me about this game, i wish i was at this game. this is true British football. wembley back then on the terracing much better than nowadays. now its sitting down fuckin borin. the rich people have ruined football.
Who won

Battle of the giants. I was only 6 so don't remember this but even though Liverpool lost, it's still interesting to watch.
Of course, Liverpool picked themselves up for the European Cup. Great team with a great manager, Bob Paisley.
70s/80s football still the best.

No chance! Perhaps greatest period of success for English teams...but only because Italian football was in the absolute shits!
