  • I really think this interview shows the delicate sweetness of laura that some people ignore due to her frequent melancholic moods or actions..her songs are very meaningful and powerful and people often say she seems very bitter but I seriously love how mysteriously magical she is. She's my idol and always will be.

  • she is perfection.

  • What instrument is she talking about in 1:37 ? Did anyone get it?

  • @sss104 appalachian dulcimer :)

  • She said his name :O

  • Grapes of Wrath ftw.

  • I've just been made aware of this artist....She's very talented but I can't help wondering where I've heard it all before....

oh yeah, Dylan's Blood on the Tracks

  • i dont normally say thi about females anymore but this woman is almost TOO beutiful. too beautiful to look at at times, which is weird cause ive never experienced that bfore.

  • it's great to see a really talented singer/songwriter so down to earth and not gone down that i'm rock n roll bullshit route......

  • She needs to get her bangs trimmed. lol I love Laura.

  • she's shy in a lovely way!

  • 0:35

what does she say? I just read what?

  • @joeychestnut1776 i think she said 'grapes of wrath'

  • Laura just seems so sweet, and she definitely has a quiet confidence about her. I can't believe she's only twenty! Her songs are so layered and poetic. They've actually moved me to tears (particularly "Blackberry Stone" and "Your Only Doll"). God, I love her. This was a great interview!

  • What a good interviewer.

  • Ive just started listening to her, she's brilliant :)

  • @JHDELIVERY22

Isn't she incredible. This multi-part interview is great too, get to have an understanding of the behind the scenes stuff, and some beautiful songs. I think she has a very promising future in music. Creative people need encouragement.

  • Terrific interview

  • Yep, great interview, beautiful guitarwork, but I cannot take my eyes off the Allen & Heath mixer and the chap in the check shirt doing such a wonderful job with it.

I hope RadioNational might consider releasing the musical exerpts from interviews such as these on CD, because they are sooo wonderful.

  • Hope to hear more interviews by Michaela. Her research is flawless, and of course she shows the interviewee both "manners and courtesy". Marling is an extremely talented grumblebum.

  • I am a fan of Marling's work, especially channelling her amerikan influences, but she does have a very long way to go in the manners and coutesy stakes. This morning, after she sang 'Rambling Man, Michaela asked her about themes of the song (beyond its narrative), and Marling retorted "... I think there's a clue in the title..."

None of us are so great that we are above anyone else.

Michaela did a good interview with a very piquish and prickly subject. I wish I did not like her music.

  • @banksiasong shes very young so i think that makes up for a lot of her being quite reserved about her lyrics. I think shes very sweet. One thing that irked me was that she said she would like to be back home in the woods more than anything else. It just makes her seem a bit ungrateful for her experiences. There are so many talented people, very few get her opportunity to share music with the world.

  • @banksiasong

They should have Monica Attard interview Laura next time, ouch. 'La Scalpel' is forensic and persistant, in a style that can be described as not-quite-cruel. Laura's music is beautiful, but I feel similarly about her attitude. Her being young just doesn't wash with me, if she's an adult, she's old enough. I am over this extension of childhood into a person's thirties.

However, Laura's voice, that fine guitar picking, just beautiful.

  • @banksiasong: Fair go. I heard that reference too. However, I have seen other videos of Laura on YT, and she's a bit like a bunny in the headlights, even though her performances are always vocally and musically quite luscious. I think she suffers from nerves or is nervous or has a bit of stagefright. She's still very early in her career, I hope that she may be forgiven one or two faux pas now and again. Encourage our young performers so that they might blossom, and we can enjoy them.

  • @ednawalling she used to be, but I think she's gotten over it

  • @banksiasong I really don't think she says things like that meaning to sound rude at all, I just don't think she seems like the sort of person that is cut out for interviews and being analysed. If you watch other interviews it's clear she doesn't like talking about her lyrics or what her songs are about. She seems to get quite nervous, and no-one talks at their best when they are nervous. I think that 'retort' was simply her attempt at explaining it. It wasn't said in a dismissive way at all
