What Carrie Underwood tries to be today, Shelby already was 15 years ago but country radio wouldn't play her. She insisted on being her own woman and not a cookie-cutter Nashvile barbie doll. She was the real deal female country music "outlaw".
Shelby Lynne is the most underrated female vocalist in country music history. I saw her live in 1990 and she sang circles around any cookie-cutter barbie doll on the charts today.
She was simply too damn good to ever make it in the bullshit Nashville mainstream.
@BloozeDaddy76 Wow, Just saw your comment on Shelby Lynne. Strong statement. Bet you get feedback hate mail as I do. Oh well. The truth is the truth and sir, you speak the truth. Ms Lynnes downfall was the manager and future wife of Randy Travis. Shelby toured with Randy and they became too close. Nuff said.
this is my favorite song. I taped this on my vcr, and played it so often, that I wore it out in six months. When it comes to singing ballads, Shelby is unbeatable. Don't much care for her other songs though. I wish she would rerecord this album. O MY GOSH, she was absolutely beautiful, as she is in this video. Don't suppose anyone who knows her personally will read this, but if you do, please ask her to sing more ballads. Thanks for sharing.
Pedalman wtf does she have to do to please you?? Incarnate herself as Patsy Cline?? This woman has more country and blues in her than anyone in Nashville today which I'll admit doesn't mean much. Give this woman her due. She certainly has paid them. Listen carefully Pedal and quit being so cynical.
CONMAESTA. To quote you. "This woman has more country and blues in her than anyone in Nashville today which I'll admit doesn't mean much".unquote. The last three words says it all ....."doesn't mean much" she may be at the top but at the top of what ?? a pile that's not country.
As record releases go country music is dead , the only way to hear country is to look in the background these days there are people who are still true to their roots.

A great voice, plenty of range, great control just no country feeling there.
pedalman 3 years ago
I agree she has an awesome voice and great control, but I hear a little Patsy Cline in there, don't you?

Even the CMA awards is all just pop music.
