I am thinking of getting my first digital slr in a few months (when I have enough money) and need some ideas for beginner cameras. I know exactly how to use them as I have used my aunties many times before and I currently own a canon powershot A570. Any ideas??
@atalayapark : If you like camera from canon, 450D is cheap and easy to use, with a bit more money , you can get an old canon 40D which is more than enough for you to start. As people say, use 1/3 of your money to buy a body, and 2/3 to buy lenses. you can upgrade the body later when you have money. all canon lenses can be use on any canon body.
i got a canon rebel xti for some reason i felt upset =/i played with it but idk i was hoping to get something better. im just starting off in digital because i was so used to film please help

:)) i agree, it sounds awful . recorded is on a mp3 player so it's not so great. i would invest in a good camcorder latter when i have time to do some more photography stuff.
im not sure waht to buy? i want something that i can take some really nice pictures with, i just want it as a hobby not a profession, i also dont understand the lenses and stuff. i dont want something tooo expensive. any advice people?
I don't know what are you looking for in a camera so it's hard for me to say.
Personally, I would pick Nikon D90, With a D90 you have more lenses to choose from, more skill to develop and if you want to improve, the camera will grow with you. The olympus e-pl1 is more suitable for traveling, the picture quality is good and if you're not so crazy about photography then it's okie. For me, i think that olympus e-pl1 not a great compact and also not a great DSLR but somewhat in the middle.
I sorry i didn't reply you sooner, i didn't think that any one would visit my video so i tend to forget to check back :D
Your camera is a very good camera so don't worry about it. i think you will have a lot of fun with it.
The Hoa dai 014 photo is taken with f1.8 to get the blurry effect , :D
I watched some lesson and they said :"Bring your camera with you as much as you can, take as many picture as possible, and try some things new". I hope this help. sorry again for reply so late.
I am now saving some money to buy Nikon D5000,.. will be my first DSLR. 13 years ago I bought Nikon FM10. I am a kind of Nikon guy. Currently I just use compact digital cam Coolpix as it is to expensive to buy DSLR. Since you sound so sincere, what do you think of D5000. Tq
I am using nikon as well so i don't have anything against nikon camera, if you already like the D5000, you should buy it. i think it is a good camera.
However, you owned a nikon FM10 before so with your experience with slr camera, you will find the manual on the nikon D5000 slowing you down compare to D80 or D90. Also the LCD on the D5000 will break easily and it collects alot of dust. the open LCD screen doesn't help you as much as you think. If you need more info just, let me know.
i really like your sincerity and explaination. Highly appreciated.
I'm beginner in photography and i am planning to buy a DSLR (Canon EOS 450D). Can you please help whether it's ok for beginner and what is best lens for beginner.
In my opinion canon 450D is an ok camera for beginner, i was planning to buy this camera for myself but i didn't have enough money at the time.
About lenses, i highly recomment the 50mm f.18 or f1.4 and 18-55mm. The 50mm have better quality image than the lens kit (18-55mm) but it's not so flexible. the 18-55mm is an ok lens and if you shot with raw file, you always can use photoshop to improve the quality. I hope this help.
This was a GREAT HELP! Thank you so much!

@182popeye
You can get some good compact camera around 400$, they can take very good picture and simple to use. try canon powershot G11 or some thing similar.

Hi, I just saw your flickr, and your photos are amazing! :]
I'm a beginner, and I just recently got a Canon Rebel T1i. Is that a good camera?
I somewhat got the hang of it, reading the manual and playing around with it, but I still want to improve. Do you have any tips?
and also, I love your photo called Hoa dai 014. How did you get that blurry effect? If you can, I would like to know. :] thank you.
