does anyone know who the second carmen was when carmen played in berlin? i know i didn't see domashenko when i watched it, but i can't remeber her name...
Without a doubt, the production is quit modern and minimalistic, but if i went to the opera i don't want to see a costume show! Besides that ther is a second production at the same time at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, which is more "traditional" (and as i think borring!)
The cast is just great, and i would recomment everyone to watch this opera, although the final scene is the most weakest of the whole opera (but that has not much to do with this production)
SO much is wrong here. The kiss Micaela gives Don José FROM HIS MOTHER... Micaela and Carmen in a catfight? WTF is this nonsense anyway? And the singing, esp. Domashenko & Villazon, is bland and subpar.
Sorry...a lot of Salzburg productions are like this. And yes, I know Peter Sellars' work, which is usually modern as well - but at least most of his stagings show that he understands the libretto. I think most of these Eurotrash productions just go for shock value. And no, I'm not trying to be ethnocentric here.
I hate those german productions that throw you for a loop and do nothing for your involvement and imagination.Nobody likes it, but they continue to dish it out.Shame!!!

You forgot to mention Jan Zinkler as Dancairo ;) - i love him. Best baritone ever ( and a really nice guy )

awesome.
Also I think Marina doesn't look like a pretty Carmen. She's wrong in this role.. but good voice.
