  • Branson should pay money just for the interest the rumor has generated, but in lieu of that, he should offer the first (and best) Star Fleet Captain a free ride! William Shatner ROCKS!

  • I can't believe that Mr. Shatner is 80. Not only does he not look anywhere near 80, he is so full of energy and stamina it's shocking! I'd like to know what his secret is!!!

  • These two work so well together on film and the love is there for all to see. I enjoy watching them 'play' they way they do.

  • Shat, keep keep keep talking. You are fascinating and inspiring every time you open your mouth.

  • Branson should pay Bill due to the real money the publicity would generate.

  • Who is this bitch?

  • @surfingsuicune Have some respect, me laddy, that's the Shat's real life daughter.

  • Shes hotness!

  • I recall Bill saying he was afraid of heights. Try to remember people he's an actor who played Captain Kirk. Give the man a break.

  • Richard Branson would sell his own Grandma for as many dollars as he could get.

  • Even though he's rich it's good that he's not burning his money.

  • Captain Kirk doesn't need to pay to go into space when he's captain of the enterprise. The united federation of planets pays him money to go into space not him paying others to take him.

  • @captainspock1000 - technically money in this scenario doesn't exist...lol

  • Damn it Bill, I know you've got a lot more than 200K stashed away so don't act like that's the reason you're not going. . .

  • Shatner could do a paypal and get it from fans but he'd probably keep it and tell us to get a life.

  • I dearly love Bill Shatner and Captain James T. Kirk, and I would love to see him go into space for real. I think that it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and he shouldn't pass it up. Now, I read in the news that Branson offered to let Shatner go up for free, is this true? If so, if Bill doesn't want his ticket, he can give it to me!! I'll go!! I'll go TWICE!! I want to see this beautiful planet from space. Were I a religious man, I would want to see Earth as God sees it, wouldn't you?

  • haha d'you know what they've named the first spaceshiptwo? take a guess!

  • I agree with Shatner. They should be paying him, what with all the publicity they would be getting. He is a high profile celebrity. Shatner in space? Imagine all the Star Trek fans trying to buy a seat after that!

  • pretty soon, most commercial flights will leave earths atmosphere anyway (it shortens long journeys massivley) so theres no need to play 200,000.

  • Well Shatner missed the first on that one to be the first trek cast member to go into space. Scotty beat him to that one, Had to work on the engines of the rocket piloted by Gordo "the best pilot you ever saw" Cooper. Rest in peace James and Gordo.

  • I wouldn't go in space for $1.00 if it was a virgin space craft. I've heard rumors of people being test animals for their crappy space travel system. Space travel is possible with NASA if you have $20 million dollars and they do things the right way. But for a record companies spacecraft, no thanks.

  • Just to make it clear, the Virgin brand is licensed to various companies. Virgin Records is not associated with Virgin Media, is not associated with Virgin Trains, is not associated with Virgin Money, is not associated with Virgin Galactic.

It's just a branding, nothing else - and Virgin Records is owned by EMI (and is part of the Capitol Music Group in the US anyway due to a previous merger).

If they paid Shat's costs I'm sure he'd be happy to shout over the hills about how fun it was ;)

  • The Astronaut Farmer. Watch it. :D

  • It's sad you see your negative attitude towards NASA. Space travel is about risk outweighing odds, not about which space administration killed more astronauts than the other.

NASA's led one of the most successful space programs in the history of the world. All events have been and still are televised. They have rules and regulations for space travel and are backed by the government.

All space flights are a risk. Other countries (Russia in particular) have killed many more astronauts than NASA.

  • I agree, NASA's done a much better job than other countries with space travel.

Honestly though, NASA needs an overhaul. We're still using the space shuttle which is launched using a dated system. NASA spends billions on fuel to get them into space and if they would just develop and adopt a new system then they would save so much money. I'm not saying new propulsion, I'm saying I don't understand how we have private investors putting people into space for far cheaper than NASA.

  • That's definitely true. I recommend anyone here search on youtube "penn and teller bullshit nasa." It's half hour episode (three parts split up for youtube) of Penn and Teller's show about how the NASA program is wasting tax payer money on the space program and how private investors would better suit them.

They also talk about how NASA is not ready to go to Mars because of their mishaps with the shuttle program. They did, however, successfully send 500 astronauts into space using it!

  • I'm not sure that's true. NASA racked up the fatalities with the Columbia and Challenger mishaps, along with Apollo 1. They did great until the shuttle.

  • They knew the odds of a shuttle being lost were around 1 in 26 launches prior to the 1st shuttle loss. That prediction was almost perfect. If your car had a 1 in 26 chance of killing you you would NOT drive it even once... actually if some oversight body had forced NASA to have a safer system they would have made it safer sooner or not flown the shuttle ever. The Apollo disaster was one of the mistakes that happens when you are learning about new technology. That kind of accident never repeated.

  • @hmcdaniel Where did you get your 1 in 26 figure?

  • So is he a virgin or not then?

  • Shatner and his Daughter are great together. They truly love each other and love being together . It is a fun thing to watch. When I was a child I lost my Dad so Shatner kinda became him . Thanks Bill

  • I agree on the horse. Of course, my horse has sent me flying through space on occassion, so....

  • i like the fact that even though mr shatner is rich, money still has value to him. that shows integrity

  • Hmmm. It showed stereotype to me...

"You don't need deck the halls of jingle bell rock, to have a swingin' party with Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock..."

  • @TaylorK1984 Maybe it just means he's cheap.

  • @tryithere. Maybe he can just think of better, more worthwhile things to spend 200 grand on?

  • @TaylorK1984

    he is not that rich.

  • @TaylorK1984 lol, Mr Shatner? .....wow.

  • 200000 to go into outer space? If that was every cent I had, I would spend it

  • I wouldn't call a sub-orbital flight "outer space."

  • @youtert.....exactamundo friend, you took the words right out of my mouth.

  • ok.. I'm confused...

Captain Kirk doesn't need to go into outer space?

    YIKES!!

  • All I know is, if something went wrong up there, I can think of no one I would rather have in the center seat!

The horse comparison brings to mind the words of the esteemed Mr. Oldfield, "Big brown beastie, big brown face. I'd rather be with you than flying through space".

  • its all a publicity stunt anyway so i agree with you

  • I see both sides, so split the difference, Shatner pays half price.

  • i got the wrong impression i thought this was clearing up that he is not a virgin lol

  • Your daughter is so beautiful.

  • "You're paying me?" That's a good one :) Who's the journalist?

  • its his daughter.

  • Who would think of charging Captain Kirk to go to space??? Anyone who would do that is a moron. I would take him free of charge and be so honored!!!

  • F!ck Branson, I wouldn't even go for free. For god's sakes, you're William Shatner man, Richard Branson is just some greedhound SOB, the guy screams of self-righteous douchebag in all his interviews.

  • i read the tittle wrong

  • Geesh, Branson is a moron, he should just GIVE Shatner the trip up...the publicity that would generate would be well worth it....my God, William Shatner is THE space man we all think about where science fiction is concerned...

  • what the hell is 200 000 $ for branson?

    Greedy men stay rich

  • the difference between profit and loss

  • Copy and paste in comment box the message below.

Richard Branson, PUT SHATNER IN SPACE!

  • Who the fuck if doing the green screen keying for this? Too much splash. Any is to much. But maybe just enough for the Shat.

  • Sir Richard Branson owns entire islands...I'm sure he could pay "The Shat" easily and get all the PR, I mean who better to be the poster boy for space travel than the captain of the U.S.S. Enterprise, right? ;)

  • I think a free flight into orbit was offered. (The $200,000 was for the return trip.)

  • That's pretty fun. A thumbs up for you!

    :-)

  • How about Richard pays for Shatner to go on the flight? Geez, he has more money than God. Pay Shatner to go, he'll get all of this publicity. Think of all the t-shirts you could sell. LOL!! Make all of the other rich bastards pay. Shatner should go for free out of principle. He is Capt. Kirk!

  • I'm right there with you Lainer1!!!

As smart as Richard Branson IS, he should KNOW that William Shatner would be Publicity Gold and SHOULD comp him the trip!

It's NOT like he's got alot of other aging space legends to worry about wanting THEIR trips comped to if he does it for Shatner!

Who's left, Nimoy, George Lucas, and Harrison Ford?

  • Mr.Shatner you have a large fan base. So my suggestion to you is create a donation button and lets see how many fans are willing to donate so that you can go on Virgin's maiden voyage. I can't imagine anyone else in the world who could represent Space Exploration other than you. As a Canadian I would donate so that you can go on the maiden voyage.

  • No, Will is too modest to do that

  • I don't think Shatner will do that. It would make him look bad. Although I agree I would love it if he went up in space. But as I said if a man with the money he has raised money for something like this he would get very bad publicity.

  • that round trip or right? or will be like a bottle rocket flight and an POP LOL

  • yea im pretty surprsed they even asked shatner to pay...kind stupid you woulda thought they would rounded up some important and famous people to test fly it for free..hell they would get tonnes of money from advertising and publicity from lettin those individuals come.

  • this great man, this shatner, should not go on this flight. its not the enterprise. no.

  • and it will probably eat shit the first flight with peeps on it

  • I don't trust these little new start up space companies; they ain't no Nasa or Russian high tech.

  • Yeah plus they both have a lot of disaster behind them! It only took one Concord crash to wipe that program out, we shall see if this even gets off the ground (past test flights), Virgin is hurting right now, like just about everything else.

  • I thought you would be putting to bed a rumour of some virgin you had sex with in outerspace.

  • You will always be my Captain Mr. Shatner. I'd pay to see you in outterspace.

I also miss you in Barbary Coast.

    Sincerely yours,

    DownStairsGuy Doug

  • George Taki Might Go

  • He SHOULD go! He's Captain Kirk! LOL!!! William Shatner, you're the best!

  • I love how William Shatner has a great relationship with his daughter. I wish I had that sort of relationship with my parents, great vids btw :)

  • I agree with a lot of comments below me! haha I think that they have said it all for me. lol It's like they read my mind.

  • lol i love how suprised he that they're not paying HIM to go up in space.

do you have any idea how expensive it is to send a rocket into space? Just having william shatner on board would cause it to cost more, because he adds to the payload weight (no, that wasn't a fat joke; anyone would add to the weight).

  • 87th!!

    Yeah!

Naw, but G. Takei might go for 200G.

  • Sorry i second video responsed i more Suitable video.

  • The shatner project i love it

  • :) Star Trek is my life! lol!

  • Don't think I'd wanna go myself. I get nervous on a plane to begin with.

  • I agree. I don't technology which is privately funded. You might go up and come back in little pieces.

  • So you have never driven a car or flown on an airplane? And you didn't type your youtube comment on a computer?

  • I hear the government run things are always known for their reliability.

  • MIKMA WAS HERE

  • sweet its kirk lol

  • I need a .. hmm Tim...

  • It's not outer space...more like inner space, is it even low earth orbit ? Outer space is more like inter planetary space if I recall correctly...

  • Bill Shatner, about going into outer space could have said to Branson, "No thanks. Been there, done that." LOL!

  • That millionaire guy who paid like a jillion dollars to go up in a Russian spacecraft was I think older than Shatner, and he made it back okay, so I think the Shat can handle it

  • Multi-Billionaire. Anyone who owns a bungalow in California is a millionaire. They're kind of like a dime a dozen nowadays.

  • I love you Mr Shatner, but you're 185 years old you would die if you tried to go into space.

  • I don't blame you Mr.Shatner, you shouldn't have to pay. They should pay you just for going. Branson is a billionare and he wants money from you to go, that's bullshit.

  • You should go up there, and say hello to James (Scotty) Doohan...

  • paulipoo1967

    oooooo, no , I'm not having a 'goodtime-girl'

  • You should have said YES, but only as a Captain of the ship. And it needs to have NCC-1701 written on it. :)

  • Mr. Wiliam Shatner may say:

"Take us out!" "Standard Orbit, Mr. Branson."

"You left port without a tractor beam?"

"Do you know the one "All I ask is a tall ship, and a star to steer her by...'? You could feel the wind at your back, about you...the sounds of the sea beneath you. And even if you take away the wind and the water, it's still the same. The ship is yours...you can feel her...and the stars are still there."

"Second star to the right and straight on 'til morning."

  • Bill has a wonderful look in this video... It's really a pity he'll never play captain Kirk again!

  • SHAT RULES and saved 200,000 dollars

    er

when did he go into space tho? other than er..ahem..yeah lol

  • She seemed to imply he was already in space? Unless she was just talking Trek stuff.

  • Shatner is just as normal as everybody else. No since in tossing money away. By the way. I just released my new youtube star trek spoof. It's called Star Trek Rodriguez; the wrath of Orville. Hope shatner sees it.

  • This is why I love this guy he is about as real as you can get. lol

  • HAHA! I suppose falling from a horse would hurt FAR less than falling from outer space. Why would anyone want to pay 200 grand to see something they can see for free on a laptop?

  • Mr. Shat, they should definitely pay you to do it. That would be cool.

  • That was a good idea. What if the maiden voyage of that thing was it's last, i.e. it crashed or blew up!? That would have sucked!

  • Good for you Bill. The publicity for his death pod would be massive if you went on board.

They should definitely pay you and its disgusting that they had the cheek to ask you to pay them for a seat.

Personally I wouldn't want you to go 'cos you wouldn't want his grinning smile to be the last thing you see before you die.

  • Mr Shatner you're awesome! :)

  • lol that was pretty deep... you got a point.

  • Oh... THAT virgin rumor. I'd assumed it was the other virgin rumor. Silly me.

  • Well it is understandable.. look at the names of the video response and this vid. lol

  • thats rediculous 200 K for him, he doenst need it he has his own effing islands! but i think itd be worth it for 100K

  • Will you need to go to space, thats where you belong

  • I love you Bill!

  • Madonna - yes.

    Paris Hilton - yes.

    Cosmos Editor - yes.

BUT, YOU DON'T CHARGE CAPTAIN JAMES TIBERIUS KIRK TO TAKE A SPACE FLIGHT ON THE V.S.S. ENTERPRISE! Ridiculous. You and Rod Roddenberry should charge him $200 g's for using the name!

  • I wouldn't waste the money. Who knows if you would come back in one piece? I would rather do something on earth that is memorable.

  • I don't think anything you do on earth can be as memorable as boldly going.....

  • Horseback riding can be thrilling enough on some horses.

  • Very smart man.

  • I'm sure you could get a television channel to cover the costs for you.

  • That's a bummer Shatner. You should have gone. I would do anything to go to space.

  • They're getting publicity from this vid, Bill.

  • So is he.

He has to make a vid about something you know.

  • OK, I can see how you might not have a spare $200,000.oo

But going on a trip into space would be huge Bill.

There must be a way to market this and make a profit.

Consider selling the "reality show" flight camera feed to a network or cable channel, that should cover the cost plus a bit ...

In any event, because the tech is so new, it was nice of Sir Richard to give you a bump up to first in line.

  • going into space is a good idea! u gotta do it

  • yeah, wait till they start selling tickets on priceline denny crane rules

  • Are you telling me thje "Priceline Negotiator" can't get a better deal? You disappoint me sir!

  • Nice

  • I love you.

  • I think it's cheaper to run for PM in Canada. So do that instead than make a law that says they MUST send you up.

  • I'd say go for it Bill, though I can see the argument that they are going to get all this publicity that is FAR worth your seat cost. I'd say work out a deal of doing a commercial, maybe get them to talk to Price Line! HA HA. If they really wanted to hit the publicity, they'd get you and the rest of the crew on a flight. Takei might try to steal the helm though! Or demand a bigger ship that no one sees much haha.

  • Go for the ride bill! That would be the best legacy for cpt. kirk ever! SWEET!!!!!

  • 200,000 grand a head doesn't sound very commercial does it.

  • Cause flying to space is so much cheaper than to Hawaii ;)

  • We fans ought to put together a money-raising petition so Shatner DOESN'T have to pay for going into space - that would be something!

Shatner, you're a life-long hero of mine, and although I know you're not actually James Kirk, it would kind of be a dream come true for you to actually get into space!

  • your "Thankful" about things videos are the best and the Takei ones

  • 200,000 get me out of debt, and then some!! i'll just watch Star Trek and dream, and have a pocket full of change same time =P

  • Splace...the Flinal Flontier.

Thanks for Putting that Virgin to bed..Err I mean for putting the Virgin Rumour to Bed..

Wait...that still doesn't quite sound right..

    What is the Thrill worth?

"I just got off a Horse, that was a thrill"..

Uhhh...boy...that just doesn't sound quite right as well.

    Splace...the Flinal Flontier.

(Lucy...you got some Splainin' to do..>!!!)

  • With all the publicity it would get them, they should give Mr. Shatner a free trip to space. If they hired him to do a commercial, it would probably cost them at least the price of the flight.

  • First, I'm just so happy you put up this channel! It's so fun to check in with the Shat every few days! :)

Second...hmm...if I had the money to spend...I most assuredly would take that flight. A childhood dream come true...

  • Who are they kidding!! This mans already been to Sha-Ka-Ree, the planet Vulcan, AND the MUTARA NEBULA !!!!!

  • I'm with Bill. I'd be much more thrilled to be on horseback then I would in outerspace. ::two thumbs up::

  • They used William Shatner's name for publicity anyway! They made it news that he didn't go...

  • Trying to charge Shatner shows that even Branson's brain doesn't always fire on all cylinders.

  • thats a lot of money dude.

  • Great green screen for this one :)

  • you dont wanna know what i thought when i saw the title!

  • Huh? You don't have 200k lying around? Weird, I thought everyone with a YouTube account had at least that much dough in their little piggybanks. *end sarcasm*

  • Going into space wouldn't be enough for me, I'd want to strap on the suit and float in space looking down at the immense ball of our home. I honestly think that would be the closest thing to a religious experience an atheist like me could have.

  • I'd go for 200k! Even if it took my whole life to raise the money!

  • After viewing this video, I wonder if "Putting the Virgin Rumor to Bed" is, in retrospect, the right title for this video.

The lame attempt at humor noted above is one reason I'm a teacher and not an entertainer...

  • 200K? Actually that's pretty cheap to go... but I agree, they'd make more coin off the publicity.

  • Cheap compared to what?

  • Cheap compared to how much Lance Bass was going to pay the Russians.

But, really, 200K is not a lot of money.

  • yeah you can only buy a house with it...

  • What rlasd said. Dennis Tito and Mark Shuttleworth both apparently paid around 20 MILLION to go into space. so 200K is pretty cheap in comparison. I hope that helps ya.

  • But virgin is just 5 minutes of weightlessness and only 110 km altitude while the ISS is 1 week of weightlessness in actual orbit. There is no comparison. To achieve earth orbit you have to fly at 27.000 kph (17.000mph) while with Virgin you will only fly at 4,200 km/h (2,600 mph). Achieving Earth orbit is just much more complex and expensive.

  • no I completely agree.. but 20 million compared to 200,000? Still could be fun, if I had the coin to spend.

  • Yea well, 200k compared to what I have in the bank...

  • Well let`s see. 5 minute weightlessness for 200.000 is 12*200.000= 2.4 million for 1 hour of weightlessness. Is 2.4 million times 24 hours = 57.6 million for 1 day. Times 7 days is 403.2 million for 1 week. 400+million of virgin VS 20 or 30 million for 1 week on ISS with the Soyuz is a very good deal. But i don`t have the money either so we just have to keep dreaming. Lol. Good thing for Hollywood and Science Fiction.

  • LOL wow that's a lot more math than I was expecting. you're not alone though I don't have 20k to spend let alone 200k!!! nice little chat btw.

  • with that money I would you could buy all the virgins on earth. =-}
