I need something with which I can tap the tempo of the Delay. Anything like that on the market? Or does the pedal itself has a halfway-touch functionality to put in a tempo?
@happyhappy85 1: It has no haste. Just bought a reverb pedal, pedalcase with DC cables and a volume pedal. That's enough for now. ;) 2: Multi FX = shitty by definition. Takes the artistic side of creating your sound away, imo. Too many presets, too much digitally predefined.
@GoodFortuneOfficial Yeah multi FX do suck, it was just something I had when i first started playing, it was just fun to mess about with. I was just saying yeah you can get D peds where you can tap the tempo in.
@happyhappy85 Hmm it's nice to start out with. When you first have your guitar and start messing with it, and then to decide to expand the horizons a bit with FX. Multi-FX is a great solution to mess around and try out different things. Bit expensive to just go on the internet and order a dousin FX pedals to try out, lol. Back on the reverb+tap delay topic: I'll just get a seperate tap delay next to my verbzilla :). Any tap delay you can recommend?
@GoodFortuneOfficial The Boss DD-7 is great... but if you like your Verbzilla, the Line 6 Echo Park is very cool. Apparently a lot of people hate the actual tap tempo mechanism on that pedal, but I thought it was ingenious. For a little more money though, the TC Nova Delay is one of my favorites. And if presets aren't a requirement, I hear that the Nova Repeater is also quite good. And if you want to spend some money — Empress Superdelay or Strymon El Capistan/TimeLine. Good luck!!
@edmiglia The RV-3 is definitely cool... but check out the Dispatch Master from Earthquaker Devices. I'm loving it right now and have one demo up so far (planning to do another, more thorough one soon), but it combines reverb and delay in a VERY beautiful way.
@adrianzon The RV-5 isn't that bad. No delay though. But if you're looking for something that combines the both delay and reverb, check out the Earthquaker Devices Dispatch Master. I've got a couple of demos up. Awesome pedal.
@adrianzon man idk i got it used from a guitar in switzerland for almost 200 dollars and they had 2 of them, but the reverb sounds great! and the delay is standard
@bcrichbeatstnt1 The delay is okay on this one, but you can do better. I was recently using a Boss DD-7 w/ my Mesa Single Recto for leads... now THAT'S a great, relatively inexpensive, full-featured delay.
yes i think i will need some reverb....but do you think the delay on this pedal is good as on the DD-3??...I mean you have enough amount of delays on this one?..I play most R&B tunes plus music like Dire starits, Mark knopfler, rockabilly, oldies etc...
@chadclark91 Sorta. They may sound similar, but the DD-5 obviously has more features. Interesting to note, however, that the RV-3 predated the DD-5 by about a year.
I was wondering tho, is there anything special about this pedal, other than the fact it has both reverb and delay? would there be any advantage to buying this over a less expensive reverb pedal, if you already had a good delay pedal?
@MattyStevensonBishop There's some added "mojo" value to account for being that it's a discontinued Boss pedal, but other than than that and the already mentioned 2-in-1-ness, there's no other distinct advantage, no.
@elpajaro27 Tap tempo is a way to set the time (i.e. interval speed) of the delay repeats. Typically there is a switch or a button on a pedal that you press or "tap" in time to the music, and a corresponding microprocessor that sets the delay time (i.e. the repeats) to be in time with the music. The RV-3 does not offer tap tempo. Other pedals like the Boss DD-5, 6, 7, and 20 do offer that feature... as well as a slew of other great pedals out there.
I am actually impressed by it... the RV5 has this "metallic" flavour that I want to like but I can't. I have no problem with them being digital, and the modulated setting on RV5 is quite famous actually, but I think I'm going to try finding an RV3. I have something like 10 or 11 different reverb pedals that I am considering, but apart from the Strymon this is the only one that I like for huge, melancholic reverb sounds.
@crxshdxmmy Yes... although it's a bit pricey (I can save up), it's not available in Europe yet (I can wait), and a bit bigger than what I can fit into my pedalboard right now... I like using pedals for one thing only, and while it seems the Strymon can do just about anything, I would only need it for huge reverbs, and the RV3 seems a very good choice for that, even among the other (and some of them boutique) offerings. Who would have thought?
you can buy one of these on ebay for 80 bucks if you are very lucky and you dont mind one thats all banged up, I just bought one thats been cared for in the original box for 140 USD (4/2010) so keep looking they turn up in waves on ebay but when theres only a few available the price goes up, as for them going up in value, thats debateable, they were 189 USD when discontinued 12 years ago and that same amount of cash will buy you a nice one generally on ebay anytime, the point is, BUY ONE
It's not the end of the world, I know, it's just that everything reverb related is just barely out of my price range.....so far buying a line 6 tonecore dock and verbzilla module seperately online seems like the cheapest (in terms of bang for buck) option.......(actually, THAT is in my price range.....)
do u have a pay as u go system with the company that u deal with? or a credit card? it helps cause u can take it home and pay as u go i have a pay as u go system with my local long and miquade dealer it helps
this is through ebay, so.....I don't think I have that system.....I don't have a card either.....I do have money, it's just the not having a job part because I haven't but should apply for one......
Just got one today. I thought there's something weird about mode 1,2 and 3 which is supposed to be "delay only". I can still hear reverb sounds in these modes. I saw your video and it's the same case. It gave me relief cause it confirms that my RV-3 is not defective but I'm a bit disappointed cause I thought it will be "pure delay sounds" in these 3 modes..
The beginning of mode 1 might sound like there's a bit of reverb in there since the delays are so close together (slapback) ... but let me assure you -- there shouldn't be any reverb creeping through on modes 1-3 as they ARE "delay only" modes.
@crxshdxmmy - watched the video again. my RV-3's mode 1 sounds the same with yours. Maybe it's the short delay time that's making it sound like there's a reverb. I'll try to check on modes 2 and 3 again later
Essentially, reverb is created by bouncing a sound off a number of surfaces. To do that in an effects pedal, the "reflections" are turned into series of fast "echoes." Those echoes are merged so closely together so that the listener interprets the effect as reverb.
In this instance, what I did w/ mode 1 was create that fast series of echoes/delays/repeats w/ a moderate amount of feedback... so that's probably why you interpreted it as "reverb."
Pedals are, definitely, not true-bypass. If you really know the sound of your amp, you'll hear the difference in tone just plugging any pedal in. Everything in the signal path adds noise and tone coloration (even when off). Best bet is to only use fx you can't live w/out. The tone and amount of added noise will be different depending on whether the pedals are in the effects loop or out front too. So try all the routing variations. (Time-based fx need to be after distortion or in the fx-loop.)
:-) give it a try. (I use a lot of distortion, all from the amp.) If I put my Boss NS-2, in front of the amp, I actually hear more hiss w/the NS-2 in the path (and off) than when the pedal is not in the path. When the pedal is on, it is, obviously, gating hiss out. If you put a wah pedal in the path (even when off) the tone is different. Delay and Reverb (w/distortion from the amp) If the pedal is before the amp, you can't hear the delay much, while playing. Then it's very loud when you stop.
Meh...if you play with it right, you can kinda get around that. I do agree though. While you can use different settings for different tempos (like the 3rd setting is really long and slow), things can get muddied up a bit. Still, this is a really fun pedal :)
yo, it's just that any batteries' sloped decay makes that half life crash it. Happened to me in a corp. gig during soundcheck. Always ran adapters after that. Then, an outdoor gig with those roll suitcase 4 hour bats. - same squeal crash. RV3 can't think on low power. Now, no LED, no nothing. I mourn my RV3. RV5 is limited 'cause it's only Reverb. 3 pedals on a board's it for me, now I gotta put 4. I'm on youtube: (please Google) Michael Case You Are My Starship - and you can hear me & RV3.
I think the rv3 is/was the best pedal ever made. Why? Because it offer reverb AND delay - which the rv 5 doesn't. DO NOT RUN IT ON LESS THAN 9 VOLTS. IT WILL SCREECH AND HOWL AND DIE A HORRIBLE DEATH.
i got this pedal off of craigslist for 70 bucks a while back, and i must admit, I f**King love this pedal! I use the mode two for my regular delay, mode 7 (plate reverb with delay), and mode 11 for plate reverb. Also when you add a slight overdrive to the reverbs you can get a nice sound. I would recommend trying to get one asap!
I was hesitating because I don't know if I wanted a digital one...But for $30, I guess there's nothing to lose...I hope it's there when I go there next time :P
Sounds a bit cold to me, but I think with a Les Paul, and a nice analog Delay, (got a Dynacord VRS 23 here) it will sound pretty good I think. Although I will need 2 reverbs probably to get the exact tone what I want.
Really depends on what you want. This one has a fully functional delay section, whereas the RV-5 does not. The RV-5 has a few additional reverb types (and some will say better reverb in general), but if you're looking to get both a nice Boss delay AND a decent reverb... the RV-3 is your pony.
The RE-20 Space Echo is a combination echo & spring reverb. There is only one reverb, and while it is probably the best spring reverb simulator I've heard, it obviously isn't versatile at all. The echo modes are alright, but unless you're set on a tape delay sim, I'd suggest something with more range.
It was out front. For whatever reason my amp hated it in the loop (likely because the loop sucks on my Rectoverb) -- tons of feedback and nastiness, it wasn't pretty. Probably not the pedal's fault though.
Is a reverb better for welcome to the jungle than a delay?

RV5 is limited 'cause it's only Reverb. 3 pedals on a board's it for me, now I gotta put 4. I'm on youtube: (please Google) Michael Case You Are My Starship - and you can hear me & RV3.

I think the rv3 is/was the best pedal ever made. Why? Because it offer reverb AND delay - which the rv 5 doesn't. DO NOT RUN IT ON LESS THAN 9 VOLTS. IT WILL SCREECH AND HOWL AND DIE A HORRIBLE DEATH.
ebonicase 2 years ago
It IS a nice pedal...... why you'd ever run it at less than 9v is beyond me though.

Woah, great demo. I'm getting one tomorrow for 100$ for my post-rock needs.

can you turn the delay off?
gibsonlesfan14 2 years ago
Did you watch the demo??? LOL!! :p
Yes. You can. You can turn the pedal off altogether ......... or just run it in the reverb only modes.
crxshdxmmy 2 years ago
behringer have made an exact copy of this. It's a reasonable price and not hard to find!
cowie86 2 years ago
does a "reverb with modulation" pedal exist?
Ancaja123 2 years ago
Yeah -- I think the RV-5 has that option. Also, maybe the Digitech Hardwire RV-7.
crxshdxmmy 2 years ago
can you get reverbs without delay?
CoreyABx 2 years ago
Yes. See about 2:25 on.
crxshdxmmy 2 years ago
What is the diference of this pedal than Digital Delay DD-3?
Thanks!
pollomartian 2 years ago
DD-3 is strictly a delay pedal. This one adds several modes of reverb.
crxshdxmmy 2 years ago
i got this pedal off of craigslist for 70 bucks a while back, and i must admit, I f**King love this pedal! I use the mode two for my regular delay, mode 7 (plate reverb with delay), and mode 11 for plate reverb. Also when you add a slight overdrive to the reverbs you can get a nice sound. I would recommend trying to get one asap!
firebeforeice 2 years ago
Nice score!! $70 is a VERY good price. Congrats on the great new pedal!
crxshdxmmy 2 years ago
I found one for $30. I think I'm gonna buy it.

WHOA!! That's a fantastic deal.
crxshdxmmy 2 years ago
Pawn shops are awesome :D
I was hesitating because I don't know if I wanted a digital one...But for $30, I guess there's nothing to lose...I hope it's there when I go there next time :P
AntiOwnage 2 years ago
heh.... for $30, I'll GLADLY take it off your hands if you don't want it. :D
crxshdxmmy 2 years ago
why can't I find a pawn shop like that...pawnshops around my town are too well-informed about pricing. damn.
alsgh422 2 years ago
It's funny, this shop is usually quite well-informed too - but this passed by. It was sold by the time I came back though D:

i have been offered one for £90
DO WANT!
indierickenbacker 2 years ago
Sounds a bit cold to me, but I think with a Les Paul, and a nice analog Delay, (got a Dynacord VRS 23 here) it will sound pretty good I think. Although I will need 2 reverbs probably to get the exact tone what I want.
Zondagavond 2 years ago
which one its better this one or the rv5 digital reverb
Juanjolead 2 years ago
Really depends on what you want. This one has a fully functional delay section, whereas the RV-5 does not. The RV-5 has a few additional reverb types (and some will say better reverb in general), but if you're looking to get both a nice Boss delay AND a decent reverb... the RV-3 is your pony.
crxshdxmmy 2 years ago
thx and you know something about the space echo
Juanjolead 2 years ago
The Roland? Unfortunately, no. Haven't had one of those.
crxshdxmmy 2 years ago
I'll take this one.
The RE-20 Space Echo is a combination echo & spring reverb. There is only one reverb, and while it is probably the best spring reverb simulator I've heard, it obviously isn't versatile at all. The echo modes are alright, but unless you're set on a tape delay sim, I'd suggest something with more range.

hey, i was just wondering if you put the pedal through an fx loop on an amp or just straight though the front
Manhitbyfootball 3 years ago
It was out front. For whatever reason my amp hated it in the loop (likely because the loop sucks on my Rectoverb) -- tons of feedback and nastiness, it wasn't pretty. Probably not the pedal's fault though.

do u know in what song he uses THIS pedal?
SstalkerS 2 years ago
ah basically all the songs on Parachutes can be heard clearly in: yellow, spies, shiver, we never change, don't panic, everythings not lost
He also used it on AROBTTH: AROBTTH (The song), Clocks, In My Place (i think)
He switched to the RV5 for X&Y
rodjarB 2 years ago
im trying to get the right pedal for don't panic
SstalkerS 2 years ago
I use a cry bay wah for modulation in this song. Also been told you can use Sweep Delay on the Line 6 DL4. I use reverb, Boss DD3 and the wah.
