  • Finally I find !

  • This clip reminds me how It was a simpler kinder world back then.

With all our fancy computers and technology people have become lazy, no one seems to have the skilll or capacity to create good original music anymore. It's become a peer driven popularity contest of musical gimmicks and vocal affectations replacing the hard work and dedication of earlier times.

  • Grab the audio from this video at tubepull doht cohm.

  • I LOVE the internet.

  • Thank you!! Brilliant piece of work......

  • Thanks for finding this clip. Brings back great memories!

  • Who wrote the 'musical bridge' to the middle of the song to make it '3 min'; Was it the carpenters themselves? i remember the commercial from 1970--ha ha, now it is a song in a scary movie 1408!

  • @49jubilee

According to Wikipedia, Richard Carpenter saw this commercial on TV, called Paul Williams, who wrote and sang it and asked him if the Carpenters would record it. He also asked Williams if there was a bridge to the song. There wasn't but Williams, needing a hit song, lied and said there was, so he and his writing partner worked for nights to come up with a bridge and a final verse before giving it to the Carpenters.

  • It used to be that banks would give new customers a free toaster for opening an account. Now when you buy a toaster, you can get a free bank. LOL

  • My folks used to bank with Crocker back before they got swallowed up by Wells Fargo, and I didn't know this tune used to be a jingle at first. Makes this commercial kinda deep.

  • Beautiful! I saw this on the Karen Carpenter Story TV biopic back in the late '80s.

  • I actually remember when this commercial came out, everyone was asking to hear that song but it was just a jingle on TV .. David Carpenter got a hold of it, wrote a killer arrangement and the rest is history.

  • Wow. Not only has music gone downhill, so have commercials.

    Terrific, thanks for posting.

  • the commercial kinda makes ya feel like borrowing some money from the bank and pay bills....

  • Thanks for posting this gem and the trip down memory lane.

  • One of the greatest and most evocative commercials I've ever seen. It's remarkable how some of the images and styles capture the era so well. Thanks for posting this!

  • Thank you for posting the TV Comm'l.

I was the recording engineer on the session. It was recorded at El Dorado Studios in Hollywood In 1970. I wish I had all the names of the group playing on the session. You might email Paul (Williams) or Bob (Todd).. They might know.

    Thank's,

    Randy Hauck

  • Thank you, Randy, for playing your part in this piece of magic. It sounds like Roger Nichols is back there on piano (and bass?). Did Hal Riney come down to record with you, too? Any other details would be very welcomed. Who else did you engineer at El Dorado?

  • Thank's for the answer. I had Bob Todd, but it was Roger Nichols that was on the session. I don't remember if Hal R. was there. (re: Other's) The only one that you have heard of is Johnny Otis, El Dorado was part his studio.

  • @oswaldwang That sounds a lot like Joe Osborn on the bass. That could be Hal Blaine on drums... that guy played on everything back then.

  • @RANDYHAUCK cool.

  • @RANDYHAUCK Wow! A bit of musical history right there Randy!

  • Those were the days when TV commercials became pop hits. Remember "I'd Like To Teach The World to Sing" for Coke?

  • That is Paul Williams singing it too.

  • it wasn't for this commercial the

carpenters would not take it to the top

    of the charts.

  • Hey, that's my first car!!

  • Terrific - now if only someone vould find and post the Security Pacific commercial "Looking Forward." It's from around the same time, but I still have the tune in my head.

  • Wow, blast from the past. I was about 10 years old then and remembered that commercial because of the song (we lived in Nor Cal - Crocker Bank territory).

  • We too went too CB, on Firestone, down from Newberrys.

  • wow this commerial looks like it was filmed on an 8mm camera

  • that lady looks like she has a toothache

  • LOL!! THATS VERY PERCEPTIVE

  • LOL, she really does !!

  • I'm a music history nut. This is the original version of We've Only Just Begun The Bass line smokin the whole arrangment is excellent. But That lady really looks out of place for a wedding.

  • the girl looks like diane lane...:D great song. nice comercial.

  • Thank you so much for posting!

  • What memories of the 1970's!

  • Brilliant! So nostaglic of the 60's/70's somehow...

  • where can i download this video

  • I'm honored and pleased to see the full commercial. Thanks a million!

  • Agreed. If if weren't for Roger and Paul, kudos to them, the Carpenters would never have made their own version and turned it into a mega hit, but I'm glad they did. Great footage too!

  • Richard saw this commercial and recognized Paul voice... so you can say if weren't for the Crocker Bank commercial they never have made their own version.

  • thanks so much for uploading this - wanted to see the whole thing since the little glimpse we had in the KC Story in 1989
