I love my S550 I got mine with every single option you can get so it's basically the S600 without the massive engine (if you're going to get a v12 I'd rather get a real sports car not a luxury car unless it's a rolls or a bentley in which case you need it to move those massive things around) the price was $114,000 with everything and worth every penny it's a 2009.

If you're looking for the easiest to use integrated control system, it would be jaguar's touch screen. The mercedes's command control knob comes second. Audi's MMi and BMW's iDrive is somewhat far from easy.
I like the S class because despite being a merc, it's not much of a "Look at me! I'm a bloody rich guy" type of car like the BMW. "It doesn't shout success, it just says success in a simple and nicely manner"
I agree with you, one of the things which makes me like the S-Class is that it isn't as flashy as, let's say a Rolls-Royce.
But I don't agree that Jaguar's Touch Screen is easier to use than Merc's COMMAND system. Simply because you have to lean forward everytime you want to change something in the system which is pretty annoying, especially when driving. In the S-Class you just have the knob right next to you.

I firmly believe that the S class, along with the 7 series does this extravagantly. They have elegance, style, and despite their size, speed as well. As far as the idrive and command, they are both very simple and work extremely well. Use them for 2 minutes and you under stand either one with ease.
@TheCarVlogger depends on people's taste I guess. I find the Quattroporte a lot more elegant even though the navigation isn't really the most intuitive. Same goes with the XJ.
What's important to me though is not the electronics but how much the interior is well made in terms of design, quality and practicality. Besides, you'd probably spend more time driving the car than fiddling with the electronics or looking at the exterior. :)

I would trash both and take a Lexus LS460 because its most reliable and gets the best MPG with the S-class
The S-class has a much more refined ride- the BMW is much more fun to drive. As for long term use, between the two- take the S-class. But I would consider the Lexus LS too

My CLS sunroof had to be fixed numerous times. My buddy lemon law brand new CL-65. All my friends drive Benzes - all have issues.

The 2009 I have is OK but my 06 had constant problems with locks.

The S550 is not a car you want to drive fast. Its too large for that. Its a luxury car.
Its quiet, its plush and its extremely comfortable.
The HVAC unit is incredible...everything in the car feels like you're in a 5 star hotel. If you get the car fully loaded, every single interior part is cooled or heated and feels comfortable.
My dad is getting a new car in 3 months once our leasing is done and we are deciding between a 750Li and S550 it is so hard to choose since they both are so similar. Please give me suggestions on which one.
The new 7 looks better than the previous 7 but, you're right, it's still an eyesore. The idrive system just sucks. I've been a BMW fan all of my life, but their late models have not impressed me. I'll take a 550 thank you very much.
BMW 7 is not a great car i agree, imo it's not a BMW. A BMW to me is a 5 or 3 series one. 535d and 335d are in a class of their own. Also the M3 and M5 are awesome. If i'd have all the money in the world i'd purchase an M5 first, and then start thinking about what other cars to buy.

@KonigNick I would have agreed with you, about 5 years ago, but you have to remember that its about what people want. The X5 isn't very big, maybe people who buy the Escalade need/want that space that the Escalade offers.

Furthermore, the Escalade is not as hard to maintain as a BMW or a Mercedes is; if something goes wrong on a Cadillac it usually tends to be cheaper to fix then a Merc or a BMW. Some people cant afford that kind of maintenance.

i was talking to mr prestige or whoever that is. and i was saying lexus dominates north america in sales. Mercedes makes some really good cars as well cause my dad also has the s550 and i love it. but my mom has a lexus lx 570 suv, and its better then any suv mercedes has ever made or any company has made for that matter. It beats it in comfort, luxury, speed, and elegance. Lexus, Audi, BMW, and Mercedes are basically equal. I prefer Audi tho!

If somebody doesn't agree with you - it doesn't mean he never did this or that. My ML had only 500 miles on when it spent month at the dealer over crank sensor + 100's of issues after. My CLS sunroof had to be fixed numerous times. My buddy lemon law brand new CL-65. All my friends drive Benzes - all have issues.
The only one more or less OK is E-class.
The 2009 I have is OK but my 06 had constant problems with locks.

Thats a ok car but its not on the same level.. the 2006 s550 is even on a higher level than the 2009 LS 460.. Lexus cant compete with S class stop trying! But it may be more reliable i give you that! Let the price tags do the talking! I would put lexus on the same level with the Cadillac CTS LOL

The LS460 has a better backseat, I'll admit. Its got a massage chair that reclines.
Other than that, I bought my Sclass and there's no looking back. FUCKING LOVE IT.
If you gave me a choice right now between an LS600, BMW 7 and S550, I'd choose the S550 again.

The S550 is not a car you want to drive fast. Its too large for that. Its a luxury car.
Its quiet, its plush and its extremely comfortable.
The HVAC unit is incredible...everything in the car feels like you're in a 5 star hotel. If you get the car fully loaded, every single interior part is cooled or heated and feels comfortable.
I bought mine for $95,000 back in 2007.

The S550 is the best choice, but the problem is, it is the most expensive of the LS460, 750li, A8L and S-classes.
The S550 is the best possible option. He just has to be sure he buys it with Multicontour front seats. Other options are neglidgeable.

The new 7 looks better than the previous 7 but, you're right, it's still an eyesore. The idrive system just sucks. I've been a BMW fan all of my life, but their late models have not impressed me. I'll take a 550 thank you very much.

I own an S550 and a Chrysler 300c.
The Chrysler has an easier to use navigation system than the S550.
PERIOD.
I won't knock the new iDrive till I personally try it. The real problem is, it wasn't designed by APPLE .

BMW 7 is not a great car i agree, imo it's not a BMW. A BMW to me is a 5 or 3 series one. 535d and 335d are in a class of their own. Also the M3 and M5 are awesome. If i'd have all the money in the world i'd purchase an M5 first, and then start thinking about what other cars to buy.
