Whenever i get to the central core wedge fires his missile and the hull goes to 75% and then when i fire mine it does, It does nothing and I'm left to sit there with nothing to do. I fired six missiles at the thing and nothing! Anybody know whats up with this?
@columbusbobby23 If I remember correctly, Wedge's missiles must reach the core first. Remember that the speed of your craft is added to the speed of the missile, so it's possible to fire later and for the missiles to still reach the core sooner. This could be one source of the problem in your case.
Or you could play with the timing the other way, i.e. not wait as long. (This has never been a problem in my case.) XWA is sometimes buggy so you may need to experiment.
Imagine to jump out of the ship, standing on its top/roof and having an epic light saber duel with a sith as u travel to the core. Wow that would have been a BLAST
@Gnoizic Good questions. At the max speed of 180 MGLT, the laser doesn't destroy obstacles fast enough, hence the missiles. The game was on normal (default) difficulty. If you bump into things at an obtuse angle (close to 180 degrees), the damage isn't that bad. I didn't use the XWA Upgrades since speedruns are generally played with the standard setup in order for the runs to be comparable.
@Thinkshooter Thanks for the info! I loved this game as a kid, and downloaded it a couple of years ago to finally get this mission under my belt the right way. I'm impressed, that was one helluva run! I'd have a hard time repeating the feat! Good to see people still enjoying and excelling at this game!
if you take the primary route you end up in a room where your practically seeing through the walls. you can see the laser lens for the deathstar and you have to find the exit which isn't easy.
@TheMusicalMonk If you speedran this tunnel at 180 MGLT in just 10 attempts, you must be really good. I did this for several hours for 2 or 3 days to finally make it. How's your shooting in dogfights? You should record your favorite mission and publish it on Youtube!
Good memories from this game, it's so awesome. They should make a new X-Wing game, with perhaps some more managing and customization options to the ships, so it feels more like a "simulator" (keeping all the action of course).
The final cutscene is at the end of this video. Just forward to the last ~20 seconds at around 5:15.
This final mission is easy: on the way in, just go slow enough for comfort; at the reactor, let Wedge shoot his missiles first and then release your double salvo; on the way out, maintain at least a speed of 90.
The challenge in this speedrun video was to run the course at the max speed of 180 MGLT.
Escaping the Death Star's destruction is the best part. I wonder why Wedge is following behind you while escaping. Because with the fireball behind him, he'd be dead in like two seconds. Shouldn't he be in front of you during the escape?
Don't expect too much realism in the game, or the movie for that matter... Throughout this mission, Wedge is programmed to follow your path, except at the reactor.

When I found out that the flame that follows behind you was a giant, swelling, 2D square, I began to have nightmares.

This level was SO hard. I had problems navigating through the crowded tunnels that I had to cheat!! :(

While I will say that that was a great speed run, there are some things I've gotta ask:
Why did you burn the missiles so much? You could've used the turrets to destroy all the pipes. (They have unlimited ammo)
What difficulty was this on? It doesn't seem like it was on a higher difficulty given the amount of damage you took hitting the walls.
Have you tried this with the X-Wing Alliance Upgrade's Millennium Falcon upgrade? It gives you the far left cockpit view, like the movies. Tough too!

Very rarely there is a bug where you can find the main way free and go straight to the reactor ;)

I thought there was a larger final cutscene, it should. There were better finals in tie fighter, x-wing, and x-wing vs tie fighter.
THe mission I loved the most in this game was the one that they were attacking your calamari cruiser and you launched into the middle of the fight.
