When NASA wants to start a new project, they employ other companies to do most of the engineering and even the designs. The fact that we have UAVs doesn't mean we don't need to do more research on them. They are after all a relatively new technology. I guess we didn't need to make new cars either?

This may look good, but in real war against country that is capable more then "hide" this the control centers of this type of systems would be a primary target for "enemy" high tech weapon. While destroying one command post would jeopardize the whole chain of such activities. And that's in addition of "enemy" AA systems that would be dealing with such systems with ease, because the one just cannot completely asses the danger by just watching bunch of monitors at the same time.
I bet if a country gonna depend heavily on uav they gonna fail because there are tons of ways to disable without firing a bullet or a missile like emp blast, disturbing signals. Pilots are always needed. They use uav against the muslims because they only have aka and never had the chance to prosper after the crusades
emp blasts would work against even a manned aircraft since it would knock out the electrical system; of which most aircraft now a days are fly by wire. Not to mention I am sure that the company that made them probably already thought of that.
I am sure with the amount of money the military has put into these systems there is a back up. Even so, if a UAV loses link with the control station it just returns to base and auto lands. A couple of days and trucks later a new control station but the same aircraft are going back up.
UAV's suck at seat of the pants dog fighting & can't be trained to make split second decisions on a moment by moment basis... that's why we will always need pilots.

When NASA wants to start a new project, they employ other companies to do most of the engineering and even the designs. This may look good, but in real war against country that is capable more then "hide" this the control centers of this type of systems would be a primary target for "enemy" high tech weapon. While destroying one command post would jeopardize the whole chain of such activities. And that's in addition of "enemy" AA systems that would be dealing with such systems with ease, because the one just cannot completely asses the danger by just watching bunch of monitors at the same time.

I bet if a country gonna depend heavily on uav they gonna fail because there are tons of ways to disable without firing a bullet or a missile like emp blast, disturbing signals. Pilots are always needed. They use uav against the muslims because they only have aka and never had the chance to prosper after the crusades

emp blasts would work against even a manned aircraft since it would knock out the electrical system; of which most aircraft now a days are fly by wire. Not to mention I am sure that the company that made them probably already thought of that.

I am sure with the amount of money the military has put into these systems there is a back up. Even so, if a UAV loses link with the control station it just returns to base and auto lands. A couple of days and trucks later a new control station but the same aircraft are going back up.

Better get used to UAV because aircraft don't like pilots because they get captured and tortured by muslims and pilots also blackout.

UAV's suck at seat of the pants dog fighting & can't be trained to make split second decisions on a moment by moment basis... that's why we will always need pilots.
Also, creating a military that replaces man with machines is immoral & has diabolical implications to those who support such a program.
Machines are made to AID man not REPLACE man.

All these UAV's that people are complaining about are controlled from the ground, they are not out picking their targets like the "Terminator" movies. And how is it immoral, I find no difference in killing with a remote controlled aircraft than it is to shoot with a rifle, the only difference is the distance.

UAV technology could lead to massive automation, more corporate greed, more unemployment & economic hardship & finally utter CHAOS & global war.

and you didn't read what I said. All UAVs are controlled from the ground, meaning there are pilots and operators controlling where they go. This system is AIDING MAN by taking him out of danger. If this aircraft is shot down, all we lost is the machine, rather than the pilot and the machine in comparison to manned aircraft. As for the rest of what you said, don't blame robots, drones, terminators or the like. Blame people those things you listed are created by humans the robot is just a tool.

I am not surprised nor impressed with your eye since it apparently lacks vision. Taking man out of danger or reducing it, is what gives us the edge in combat. If not then we wouldn't have Tanks, body armor, cruise missiles, artillery or most of the weapons in the inventory. I will reiterate that this is not replacing man as an aggressor, it is a weapon, just like a rifle, a man has to pull the trigger.

The first look / first strike capability that UAVs give, saves soldiers lives. Your "valid" points are classic paranoia. I do not disapprove of the use of modern technology or drones, I've said it before & I'll say it again, they are necessary but they are NOT THE SOLUTION & THEY ARE NOT MORAL. you prove my point that the whole damn game is IMMORAL. Replacing the soldier with killing machines is as wrong as replacing workers with automated factories. Now, where did I say that automation is the solution? I see this all as a tool at the disposal of those who need it. . I will reiterate, an airman, soldier or marine will be in control of this system, therefore the machine has not replaced him, only put him at distance where he can safely do what he was trained to do, kill the enemy. In response to China building a better one, the cycle will continue. We will build something in response to that threat and so on and so on.

and therein the argument. it becomes much easier to utilize military force when there are no men to mobilize, no troops to inspire to combat, no consequences to unchecked zeal and fervor. at least when there are warm bodies in the war zone, people debate the necessities and validity of militaristic action.
