Can't stand Montand and Iggy does a great job here. His french pronounciation is good except for "sépare" he pronounces as "separey" (same for "sable"), love it though.
Back in '75 Iggy knocked on my door (He lived in the basement apartment in the building) and I opened the door and he said, "Hi, my name is Jimmy. Can you spare some marijuana?" and I said "yes" and I rolled him a couple of joints of skunkweed. it was all I had to offer. Many of his fans don't like his crooning but I do.
The only thing i don't like is the way he speaks at the begening( maybe because french is my mothertongue) nevertheless i prefer his singing than Yves Montand's one

The lyrics are part of the poem originally written by jacques prévert. It's sad the way Iggy butchers the pronunciation. You would think he would 1) pay for an interpreter/linguist to coach him on pronunciation, and 2) care enough about the language and the poet to learn the proper pronunciation. His voice sounds great though.

I believe this tune is "Autumn Leaves" in English. That's not coincidental, is it?

Yves Montand is the best in this song and he's got the right pronunciation.

Yeah, but Iggy puts meaning and emotion into it better.

I have to agree on the pronounciation, but apparently many people still like it, that's all what matters.

@TheRunner75 I'm French and I do but I can tell you 10 years ago I woulnd't have like it either. La vie est passée par là ;))

The lyrics translate as:
It's a song that resembles us
You loved me and I loved you
We lived together
You who loved me, me who loved you
But life separates those who love one another
so softly/quietly
without a sound
and the ocean erases from the sand
the steps of lovers split apart

Iggy Pop sait parlel francais? Sa pronontation est drole :D Mais la chanson est trés bonne :)

Je ne pense pas qu'il sait comment parler français. Pas s'il prononce les mots comme ça. Mais, il essaye. Et il connait le sens des paroles.

A song like us, birds of a feather,
You loving me, me loving you,
And we lived happily together,
You loving me, me loving you.
But life tears apart gentle lovers
Who quietly obey their heart,
And the sea invades the sand and covers
The footsteps of those torn apart.

The same thing. He basically repeats the same paragraph several times during the song, though changing the intonation for the chorus.
