  • New FDA Video on Nutrition Facts Label:

Search for "Food Label & You" on YouTube and look for the one that was done in Feb, 2010.

  • Hey Good Lookng! Thanks for the info ;-)

  • enjoyed the video thanks! im a nutrition major so it helps to know more

  • don't you guys get in trouble for advertising different foods?

  • We are not advertising, we are just providing some examples.

  • "The US FDA allows rounding error", ha ha it came an unexpected but true statement

  • i dont eat anything with a nutrition facts label. if you believe youre getting nutrition from a bag of chips... you need help.

  • When I buy bulk foods at a health food store, they often have nutrition facts on the bin.

And if you get like pomegranate juice (to drink sparingly, it's pretty high in sugar), then it's in a bottle.

  • Yay, great video! Very informative.. I'm English so it's a bit different here to the USA.. but then I visit America often so yeahh.. thanks for info!! =)

  • thanks for the info..

  • Hi nice video. I would like to know about servings and how it takes part in food labels.

  • thanks for the vid, very helpful

  • AHHHHHHHHH!!! You keep on saying that the US FDA recommends 2000 calorie diet...READ THAT AGAIN. You are reading it wrong. I think it's because your English isn't that good, dude.

  • Okay, you don't know what you are talking about and that is dangerous. The FDA does NOT recommend a 2000 calorie diet. It simply lists what percentage of your daily intake each thing represents based on a 2000 calorie diet. You might need more or less, and it depends on your weight.

  • hello

You are right, I did notice that my voicing was unclear at times during the video & when i said the US "recommends" a 2k calorie diet, it was meant to say BASED on a US FDA 2000 calorie recommended diet (In fact I even said "based" a couple times if you listen carefully). continued...

  • Yes I'm aware of the situation that a person changes their calorie diet accordingly, but I guess I failed to include that in the video. In my future installments I'll try to incorporate that in it & place a disclaimer on the description of this video. Much thanks for pointing this very true fact out!

  • good one

    n thanx for subscribing

  • i always wondered what all that mumbo jumbo on the back of food boxes meant :P thanks so much for sharing!

  • "If you eat something like this, you're gonna have to be like that dude over there." lol. Also, what are you adding vertically in the middle section? Are you adding the total fat and carbohydrates? The information was quite helpful. Thanks a lot. You have a new fan!

  • Hi,

Thanks for the kind words and compliments! The middle section where I was adding up the grams was just to show that everything in the middle section, the carbs, proteins, fats etc make up the total grams in the servings, and to show that sometimes it doesn't add up to exactly what the label tells you. Off by 1 or so grams is acceptable by US FDA standards. Just letting people know in case they might get confused when adding up their grams per serving. :)

  • Hey thanks for this. I definitely learned a lot. Awesome.

  • cool vid, i can never work out what all that means on the labels but thanks to u i know do or at least i hope i do as i think uk ones are similar. Their not that much different anyway. Thanks :)

  • good stuff minh

  • to trowaa: You likely have an ectomorphic body type, where gaining fat and muscle is difficult to do. This stems from high metabolism and basic body structure. However just because you don't gain fat, doesn't mean you don't experience negative health impacts from eating in an unhealthy manner, and may later develop high cholesterol, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes etc... So a healthy life style is very important, and with hard work you can also get muscle if that is what you desire.

  • Thanks for the info.

  • Hey, I'm like that too. I've been underweight my entire life. We just have a fast metabolism. You can get it checked by the doc if you want. I went in to do bloodwork (for a diff reason) and found out what I already knew: my T3 levels were pretty high (T3 and T4 have to do with metabolism). I have tried working out to gain muscle weight. It's working a bit. I still eat healthily and exercise though. It's great because I can walk up flights of stairs without running out of breath anymore.

  • Also, joekarim is right when he says you can still have negative health impacts from an unhealthy lifestlye. My whole family is underweight (genes), but my dad has an extremely high cholesterol :( from years of fatty foods and is prediabetic . Ugh. Now he has to "diet" (even though he's underweight) to bring his cholesterol and glucose level down. That's terrible.

  • I'm sorry to hear your dad is prediabetic. But I'm glad to hear someone has the same problem as me. :-)

You have to admit though, it's not THAT BAD being skinny. I rather be skinny than fat any day. ^_^

But... we definitely don't want to stay like this forever. Please feel free to tell me your working out methods. Any tips are gladly accepted. I've been runing and doing sit-ups a lot and I can see a six pack beginning to form. Try it! byebye

  • Prediabetic isn't bad. It's not yet diabetic, so it means he can obtain a regular glucose level as long as he stops eating so much bad food. I used to do sit ups, but my stomach is already flat. lol. So now I run and work out my arms with curls and kickbacks. And yes, it's better to be underweight than overweight.

  • Yeah just letting you know, generally sit-ups is not a good idea, because it puts a lot of strain on the neck. So if you want to do an ab workout, try laying flat on your back and lift up your legs back and forth.

    PS thanks for subscribing!

  • I didn't know ANYTHING about this. Thanks for the help.

    Keep making more good videos!

By the way, I've been wanting to ask this question; Why is it that I eat so much and remain skinny? o.o I could eat hamburgers everyday and wont get fat.

  • Hello there,

As much as I would love to help give you a much better reasoning, I'm just a student with limited knowledge at this point. But a lot of people also tell me that I'm skinny even though I consume large amounts of food. They normally tell me what joekarim87 is telling you. They told me it had to deal with my metabolism. I'm not a health-care professional, so I suggest talking to experts or your doctor for more information.

    -minh

  • No problem, thanks anyway. :)

  • I studied things like this at college as I did food technology. Unless you're dieting people will not really take the time to check the nutritional information.

  • Hi,

You bring up a good point. But for me, as long as the ability to read these labels are gained by anyone who watches this, then I think that is enough for me to become satisfied. As long as the opportunity to do so is there, such as the video above. :)

    -minh

  • Paul usually tells me that he loves me in his comments ;) I'm very upset you didn't tell me.

  • I do appreciate your comments. The more the merrier :)

    -minh

  • I'm always so impressed with you guys. I've done a biomed degree and I only learnt this stuff during university - which is a real shame. They should teach this stuff in schools, when the problems start. Another great vid 5 stars. *hugs*
