if you get Fire Pro D you need a Dreamcast Nexus card (and serial cable); if you have Fire Pro Returns you need the Action Replay Max (with usb flash drive) for PS2. both games require these to get the most out of edits, which is like half the game.
I hate this game only came out for ps2... i would really love see this on xbox 360,psp, or some ohter system...i have fire pro 1and 2 on the game boy they are the reason i still have my game boy.
@TheCormac88 Search "Fire Pro Wrestling Returns PAL" on ebay. There aren't too many copies available, and it's much more expensive than it is here in the states, but you can get a copy that will work on your PS2. If you can't do that, you can always try setting up an emulator, though you have to have a pretty powerful computer to run it.
@LexiconTWR I remember the big appeal was that they looked very realistic, for the time of course. The gameplay was disappointing, but my favorite part was the detailed CAW in Attitude that was unprecedented. My friends and I absolutely murdered the disks!
@ZoopSoul Thanks! I wouldn't really compare the two series. I like the AKI games and these both, but they are quite different. I like to watch the matches more than I actually play (with both AKI and Fire Pro) so I'm sure I get a different enjoyment out of it as most. I'd recommend for everyone to at least give this game a shot. It's a very underrated and under-appreciated games.
Great review for an awesome game. I'm not even a wrestling fan but this is the only wrestling gmae I even play. In terms of the difficulty, I trained with the gba version, started from level 1, kept on playing until I got the timing down before moving on to the next level. Eventually you'll click and began to appreciate the contrast of the gameplay compared to other fighting games.
All in all, everyone with a PS2 should own this game.
@kentairjordan Edits can only have one attire. However, you can clone your edit and change the outfit. It will take up another edit slot, but there are like 500 slots, so you should be good.
@master2dope When you're setting up the match, open up the Blue Corner menu and then press down. It should then show 1P and CP below that. It might show two 1P's. If you want to control both opponents then make sure both say "1P". Then do the same for the Red Corner. You can set it as high as 4 vs 4
is low ki raven tommy dreamer sandman or ecw wrestlers in this game? cuase i got it and its kinda hard 2 tell.and can you make a video on how to make your own ring logos its pretty complicated for me the best i done is a couple of dots,
@master2dope Low Ki is in. As for ECW guys, off the top of my head, I think Sabu and Steve Corino are the only ones that are there already. But you can easily make the other guys on your own, or download some of the Edit Packs available. The logo maker is really tough and tedious. Try to google a guide on Logo making.
@master2dope There are some that are just formulas, but if you have an Action Replay Max device you can just download the packs to your memory card. Like the logo editor, there are guides on how to do it.
Love this game. Still have my old GBA, and the first fire pro is the only game I own for it. TONS of replay value. If Xbox could pull it off, it'd be huge on the marketplace, especially with online possibilities.
Yea, I Had This Game For About 3 years..and I never Once Played Or Seen Match Maker Mode..Someone Told Me U Cant Use Edits..And I said F*ck That, And Never Played It. Great Review.
I love this review! I just purchased a PS3 and was looking around the web to make sure it is compatible. All signs point to yes, but I saw something about not being able to save anything on the PS3. Do you know if that is true? The saved games and wrestlers seem to be a huge strength of this game.
@ermyfjym Thanks. It really depends on what size of memory you have in your PS3. If it's a newer PS3 (last 3 years) then it won't be able to play PS2 games at all. PSX games, yes, but not PS2. I recommend picking up a PS2 just for this game. I play my PS2 more than my PS3 and 360 combined because of Fire Pro.
@LexiconTWR Well, that is unfortunate about the BWC, but I think you are right and I will need to get a PS2. I am an enormous fan of the AKI wrestling games and wanted to find a series of comparable quality, and this one is highly regarded. I rented SvR 2011, and while the graphics and sound are quite good, the gameplay leaves me wanting more.
@ermyfjym If you appreciate great logic then fire pro is tough to beat. If you end up getting a PS2 and the game and you have any questions, feel free to ask.
@haggistheman1525 lol Try putting the CPU setting to 1 and just get familiar with the controls. You have to work on your opponent for awhile, and make sure that you're doing damage to the part of your opponent that your finisher hurts, because it does matter. You could do a thousand backdrops, but if you have the Pedigree as a finisher, it's probably not going to put your opponent away.
@LexiconTWR Ha yea that/s what I did. After you get the hang of it and stop just mashing buttons, it is probably one of if not the most fun wrestling games ever.
Great review on a great game. Good point about the matches being interesting, I agree. I've had the game for a few yrs and I still haven't seen every counter. I've only seen the german suplex flip out once!
ive seen and heard alot about this game series. i just have a few questions. is this game the most recent released to the U.S.? or is this the best that has been released to the U.S.? or is there a better one out there?
@TrueHiddenKing This is the only Fire Pro that has been released on a console in the US. This was also the last to be made in Japan, so it's the latest, and deepest Fire Pro available.
@LexiconTWR After doing so much to get this game, it pains me to say this- I hate it. If you can't download online packs, it blows. The CAW and CPU Logic is great but its takes so long that it's totally impractical. I like the 2D style and grapple system, but the game goes too fast. Never does the opponent stay down- it's very arcadey.I can do my finisher 3 times and you've only got like 4 seconds to pin um, there's never any time to screw around with spots. It just doesnt feel like the real thing
@CaptainOmarful Sorry to hear that you didn't care for it. It's not for everyone. To address some of the problems you have though, the best way to sum it up is "you have to play realistically". If you hit your finisher too early or without doing enough damage to that part of your opponents body, they're not going to stay down for very long. Also, it's best if you just create your own slew of wrestlers so that you can fix the logic the way you want it. The default wrestlers are not balanced.
@TrueHiddenKing Fire Pro Wrestling D for the Dreamcast has a few features missing from the PS2 game. otherwise FPR is superior. I recommend both games.
@TrueHiddenKing (Victory Road where you go through and defeat all the pre-set wrestlers, increasing difficulty in their home venues to win the belt; and the exploding cage match which was replaced by the exploding barbed wire ropes). there's also a little more violence in the DC version (red flashes when you hit barbed wire and bigger explosions from electrical hits), and the barbed wire match replaces the land mine barbed wire match. otherwise FPR is superior.
@TrueHiddenKing one more thing I forgot.. the DC version has an actual octagon cage for "gruesome fighting" mode. the PS2 game has a 12 sided cage. it's only a visual difference though. the gameplay is the same.
thanks for the review bro! i used to play this game on my GBA, just bought returns on ebay for $7.

FYI, in War Zone you could not see full entrances. It was in Attitude that you could, although that was a crappy game besides.

@Ant1Live Yeah, I was thinking of Attitude. And no, in retrospect they aren't very good. Played the hell out of them as a kid though
LexiconTWR 6 months ago
@LexiconTWR LOL, me too, but for obsessed wrestling fans we didn't have very many options at the time. :)
To this day, however, once in a while I will blow into my old Pro Wrestling and Tecmo World Wrestling NES cartridges and mash a few buttons.
