  • Wouldn't water be as old as the oldest rocks on earth?

  • How can I get one of Those Rocks

  • 4 Billion year old rock makes me dream such a fascinating day dream; wondering what it could have possibly seen in its life (existence). Just a mind numbing thought...So much time that we can never fully grasp it. Absolutely Awesome!!!

  • Excellent stuff, who does the music in the video?

  • its my goal in life to collect samples of the acasta gneiss. i have seen kimberlite pipes in the arctic, but never this, I never knew what i was missing.

  • Great video and nice music!

  • i thought the oldest known rocks were in Jack Hills, Western Australia... clarification anyone?

  • It's my understanding that the zircons found in the Jack Hills are remnants of previous rocks (thus making them the oldest terrestrial minerals). However, the Acasta would be the oldest rock that has survived intact (although metamorphosed).

  • makes sense, cheers mate.

  • Fascinating. So those pieces of rock might have been part of one of the first continents of the earth as it cooled from its original molten state? Mindboggling.

  • @NisseHult101 It was probably laid down as a "pillow basalt" originally.

  • Normally I would never find this kinda thing interesting but here I am, completely enthralled. I subbed you a while ago for some reason I can't explain and I enjoy this for some reason I can't explain.

  • @n2thatguy I'm going to be tackling a lot of interesting science stuff this summer, stay tuned.

  • extraordinary.

I like the Canada French story, being Canadian, it's typical.

I think I have a new goal to drive up to Yellowknife in my lifetime. It just seems so unreachable, it would be a cool feeling.

  • Indeed a lovely video, and I'll probably order some rock before long.

Also a thumbs up for a quiet, nice soundtrack that doesn't dominate or detract attention.

  • Wonderful video, friend!

  • Very Cool!

  • Trying to grasp the concept of billions of years always drives me insane. To think there are rocks that old still laying around us is pretty f'ing amazing too. Great footage.

  • Awesome!

  • Is this what you do for a living? Very cool. Keep it up!

  • I work in geophysics and mineral resources, trying to unravel natures mysteries in the geological realm. I wouldn't trade it for the world.

  • It sounds like a magical career. I would love to hear you talk about some of the research projects you've been on, and the sites you've visited.

  • I would never have thought pieces of the crust from so long ago would still exist without having been recycled.
