  • Great lesson Justin. I take pride in having figured out a lot of tunes on my one (Stairway to Heaven, From the Beginning, Balckbird, to name a few), but it is a really great shortcut to find the CORRECT way to play it!

I noticed 14 dislikes??? How could anyone not like or appreciate this excellent lesson on how to play this song????

  • @roadbiker1 they probably only disliked it because they couldnt play it lol

  • Justin, Thank you so much! Amazing lessons from an amazing guitarist!!! Again, many thanks from the U.S.A.!!

  • thanx, your a great teacher

  • how does ur guitar sound so good?!

  • i feel bad saying this because marty has helped me alot... but your tutorials are just on point and so detailed there's no guessing or trying to figure it out on my own. i really appreciate this video. keep up the quality

  • shot ma man, you teach me the best way i learn thanks

  • Best lesson for this song out there. Thank you! For those of you who don't want to crank your guitar strings down so tight with the open E tuning (E,B,E,G#,B,E) you can do an open D tuning (D,A,D,F#,A,D) and place a capo on the 2nd fret for an open E. You still play it just like he teaches. Only the first fret after the capo becomes your new first fret. Either way, DO NOT leave your guitar in open E (loosen the strings when you finish playing) or the little suckers will break fast!

  • I was trying to see what kind of guitar he's playing.. did anyone catch it?

  • WTF??? I thought this was going to be Justin Beiber.............

  • thanks man u r a great teacher !!

  • Thumbs up man, whole song learnt in three vids thx tons!

  • hey justin great video mate. helped heaps

  • Unlike other teachers you make sense and play great, thanks!

  • Thanks alot man. I learned this pretty quickly thanks for the lesson

  • Many Thanks Justin .....Brilliant

  • Never losing interest. Especially when theres people to show you how to play different songs. You make it easy

  • theres so much s&*t on you tube with all kinds of so called how to play a song followed by some arogant kid with a half tuned guitar and no simularity to the real thing. Its great to have someone that gets down to it with talent and grace.

    cheers Savage

  • justin you are a god...

  • Hello Justin

All i can say ...it is easy to follow your lessons online ,you have the gift of a teacher and the pasion of teaching ,indeed it does help me a lot to learn tunes i do like and play them properly ...and just a suggestion ....is you can have a split screen for the right hand to follow would be nice ...anyhow, thank you for your commitment .

    Julian D

  • thank you so much!!! i can play it now

  • seriously,,, thank you!

  • Fingering for the riff at 3:40 is 054300, 054500. That's the same chord that's strummed in the middle eight (which seems to have been missed out of this lesson).

  • Ok that's it you are the best! I love this song and didn't know where to start I can do all the parts in just a few hours I just have to put it all together. I don't have any money been out of work for two years so

i am so glad I found your site.I will be donating to your cause when I get back on my feet. Thank you so much! Great teacher!

  • Great lesson and much appreciated! Got discouraged, therefore I quit playing, watched your lesson and I've been playing tonight for four hours. I've never learned a whole song but i think I will with your lessons. Pretty cool dude, thanks again!

  • Hey Justin. Your a great instructor. I have a challenge for you. How about trying Black Mountain Rag. The 2nd part of this into sounds a lot like it. Some good ole fashion blue grass. No-one I've seen breaks down songs like you. And you are appreciated!

  • Justin great video as usual- one other way to make the chords with the open e's ringing out is to use your thumb from above( jimi hendrix style) great lesson thanks

  • i cant get the part from:42 onwards

  • use the "e" chord instead ogf the "G" in an open "e" tuning sounds better, the picking sounds great.

  • thank you my fav song and the best teacher. you are the man.

  • Excellent videos. This makes it really easy to see the song in my head - just need to do the tricky bit and get my fingers to see it too!!

  • Thanks Dude, The work you do helps so many people, myself include!! I am haveing some troubles with my Ipod touch revisiting your stuff any suggestions?

  • You say the note is G#..1st fret 3rd string, but in open e tuning isn't that an A?

  • Awesome lesson!Cocky guitar players always ruin these type of vids.

  • thanks a lot, dude. really great lesson. I was always kinda intimidated by this song cuz everybody made it seem so hard, but u really broke it down and made it simple, and everything is spot on. excellent job, thanks a whole bunch, and keep up the good work.

  • AMAZING ! You not only play a "mean" guitar, but you have the ability to teach in a simple clear way,

that even very late starters like me can follow.

This is one of my favorite songs.

All the best to you, & thanks for sharing the happiness

  • I subscribed this week. IMO, this guy is the best and easiest to understand guitar instructor on the web. Plus he's cool, he;s not some shredder guitar geek who thinks he's god's gift to music.

  • You've nailed it AGENTARMES. He has taught me so much in learning lead rather than sticking to BBQ songs (for the past 35 years).

  • Outstanding explanation and demonstration of this song. Thank you very much...you're an extremely talented artist.

  • Like i said i'm only 16 and a long way to go. So, if you can make one awesome :) if not that's OK you're still the best there is.

    Appreciate everything you've done

P.S. you should really cut that friend block thing xD it's making this really complicated xD

  • Now to get to the point.. All my life i absolutely loved Eric Clapton and every song he's ever made.. Of course my favourites are Layla and Tears in heaven (which I learned to play from you thank you very much :) )

So i was wondering if you could make a tutorial regarding the unplugged version of Layla. I've been at it for a year and i can't get anywhere further than the intro.

  • Hello Justin :) first of all let me thank you for everything that you've done for all of us guitarists here on youtube. You've been a great help, you're a really great guy an awesomely good guitarist and a really good person. There isn't much of your kind left in this world. So yeah, thanks :D

  • great just like all your lessons.

the original lead guitar player was Jeff Cease, but Rich probably played what is on the album.

  • Awesome as always Justin. Thank you! Love this song and I can (sorta) play it now ;-) Practice makes perfect!

  • Justin the link to download the intro Tab is not on the website.

    Great lesson! Great Job!

    Thank You!!!!!!!

  • helpful vid thats why i subbed quite some time ago. thx for posting

  • so from about 3:29-4:10

    the tab should look like

    E:

    B:

    E:2-4s 0 2p0

    G: 0 3p0 0 3p0

    B: 2p0

    E:

It is not you Justin it is just me I had to type it out for it to make sense to me and you are calling some of the strings by their original tuning letter so it kinda confused me. And Youtube kinda squished the tab so I had to reposition it. And it anyone has the tabbed part to correct my mini tab above please let me know.

  • Brilliant! Thank you for that! I bought the backing CD, well worth it.

  • damn your good man.

  • I will look into the Black Crows.. and I'll give the Stones a closer look

  • Excellent, thankyou for your hard work, you have helped me improve my playing so much.

If you do take requests, please fit some Def leppard into your lessons.

Best guitar tutorials on the net.

  • Justin, I was wondering, if you had a few minutes to spare, would you let me know how I could improve my videos, as I don't get many viewings? I would want 'ya to be blunt and honest because that's the only way I can do better ones. If they're shit, say so, if I waffle or sound crap please say. I know you are a very busy person and, I won't pester you with questions.

Oh, do have a look at the Chord Wheel video too. It seems a great device you might put on your amazon wish list!

    Many thanks.

  • you're so cute justin..

    thnx for making videos..

  • Justin you rock as always!!

  • brilliant, clear, consice teaching, well done Justin, you are a blessing to those who love guitar, thank you.

  • What's that guitar he's using? Sounds great.

  • I think that's his Maton Messiah, which he reviews on his other user ID at JustinSandercoe. It is a nice guitar! I like to have one myself someday.

  • hay i was wondering if you could post how to play Back in Time by Huey Lewis & the news. Thanks and i love the lessons

  • Awesome Justin

Please feel free to do a Stones tune,

I like messing around with alternate tuning, It's an easy way to show off

and it gives me an excuse to buy another guitar.

    Gotta keep the economy going.

  • he does do some stones tunes...its on the open g altnerate tuning lesson that he has

  • Justin for the win.

  • Great lessons on this song Justin. Been wanting to learn this for a while. Too busy transcribing Zeppelin though.
