Marillion are more complex musically and lyrically. I listened to Queen all through my childhood and got into Marillion in high school. Queen are not progressive, but Marillion are. Progressive rock is always far more diverse than "normal" rock by it's very nature. It doesn't mean that either band is better than the other because musical taste is very subjective. However, I believe that Marillion's music is more complex than Queen's. Are you now going to call me a moron?

What I'm talking about is musical complexity within the genre of progressive rock - about the complex musical timing and layers of music. With Queen, they were (or are) a band which pushed the boundaries of music and provided a platform for other bands to follow. Where Marillion are concerned, they are progressive in the sense that their music is extremely complex. Queen's music was more progressive at the beginning of their career.

They have sung so many genras that its abslolotutely beyondly the pale. As I said before, if you prefer other bands to Queen, have at it. But please have some respect for Queen, then dont listen. @Photobyke Do you know the early Queen songs? Marillion really was a good band but compared to Queen they were just O.K. Of course music will always be a matter of taste. But compared to Marillion Queen is God. Marillion really made some complex songs, but what kind of value is this to add just as many different parts as possible if they are not joining in a magical way. Queen were masters in melting various parts & elements and letting them sound as if they were meant that way from eternity.

FISH made Marillion popular in the 80's and was a pivotal leader in the Neo prog genre. Without FISH, neoprog would not exist.

I have been exactly at THAT concert in 1986 / Mannheim, Germany. And I can tell you, they HAVE played together! It was a big concert with several bands. Marillion was on stage before Queen. And at the end of the Queen gig, Freddie was calling for "Mr. Fish" and they played this song together.
