They never called music "hardcore" back then except when referring to "hardcore punk" music, like Black Flag. Slayer, SOD, Anthrax, Overkill, Testament, Metalica, etc.. were all classified as "Thrash Metal", even by the bands themselves. This is the ORIGINAL thrash metal which came from combining PUNK and HEAVY METAL. Scott Ian was a fan of Bad Brains who were punk. Crossover? What the fuck are you talking about? No one used the term crossover back then. It was punk fused with metal...period.

SOD are really a great band. Check out VSD from Baltimore on youtube. VSD- Kill Your Kids, Phantasmagoria, and Instrumental Breakdown, all recorded live in 1987. Good heavy music.
