1) The first commandment, Exodus 20:2,"I am the LORD thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before Me." The Shema, Deuteronomy 6:4, "Hear, O Israel: the LORD our God, the LORD is one." The Shema is not God's first commandment. In fact, His first commandment is "Be fruitful and multiply" in Genesis 1:22. Mr. Deedat, please be honest with yourself and your audience.
Search in google "gospel of mark chapter 12" and read verses 28 and 29.
The man asked "Which is the first commandment of all?".. he is simply saying: what is the most important commandment of all of them, if he means what is the first in order, he would say: "which is the first commandment OF ALL?"
he would've simply just said: which is the first commandment.
and according to Gospel of Mark chapter 12 verse 29 Jesus answered him"The Lord our God is one Lord"...Deedat was honest.
Sonofblessed, u have miss understood my brother. your be fruitful and multiply isnt a command. let me illustrate for u.
Example: A teenage turns 21 - The parent say too him, now u r old enough 2 get a job, and live independantly, and get married etc etc - words of directions from parents. same as God to Adam. words of direction, not a command. A command would be, hey look son your 21 now, i command you get job, leave my house, go get get a wife. etc. that isnt words of direction its A command
Hi Vaea, that's a good insight, but the verse specifically reads "pru urvu, malu ha'aretz ve'chavshuha," which means "spread and multiply, fill the earth and subdue it." The language here is clearly a command, although one could apply a liberal interpretation to make it a direction (i.e., suggestion) and not a command. Jewish Law, based on this verse, explains that one who does not have children (unless he can't) is sinning, indicating that it is indeed a command. Yaniv...

2) An "eye for an eye" is explained by all Jewish sources as Lex Talionis - financial recompense for bodily damage.
