I have lived under a Shadow all my short life. I found myself enjoying hate and pride. The expression "the pleasures of hell" isnt that contradictory as it seems
when you have experienced them. But the misery and degradation that it brings to you is not worth it.
I dont know if I can "heal" myself, cause I dont feel like there is a "self" anymore.
Maybe he has destroyed me in this life but my very end will be brave.
"He's shooting God up his arm through a needle, and she's putting cuts on her legs to bleed out the devil." I can't believe how much of a hard time people are having understanding this. It's talking about the unhappiness of the world. The first guys way out is drugs, and the second girls way out is cutting. Both cases are trying to rid themselves of the depression and unhappiness. They don't know the real and only way is God, so they turn to these things.
You guys have to understand Cody and the band. He's having a convo with God about how horrible and "grey" he feels that the world is. Although we turn our backs on Him, God still does not "let go" of it.
The "God through a needle" line is just another (nicely written) example of the issues. The drug is this person's God.
when he says "hes shooting god up his arms through a needle" i think he is talking about drugs but also how people replace God with a false god with something they can see and feel. And "shes putting cuts in her legs to bleed out the devil" talks about how people try to hurt themselves to take away the pain of this world. Everyone who thinks drugs, sex,or cutting is going to help. It doesn't. Only Jesus can take that pain away. I have been down the road it sucks hit me upon facebook. Payton Smith.
I Absolutely love this album. Every song on Come Now Sleep sends the best of shivers up my spine. I've been listening to this album for so long, it just never gets old.

@baller10hw Dude, you can listen to anything you like. Just because someone views the world differently doesn't mean you're not allowed to try and connect to their art.
@be93lolzy well this song was actually made to have a very deep meaning into religion so its kinda hard not to talk about it its inspiring and i can see that if you are listeining to like underoath on youtube but this is meant to be like it is and please i dont a argument if you dont want to listen then just walk away
@be93lolzy yes they do care, this is a christian band, so if you dont believe in god, and cant go through the video without looking into the comments and trolling get out
@be93lolzy suck my ass im a real person not sum bullshit like u believe n so call me n person if u wanna no sum real fuckin shit ill pay u 5 bones for every answer thst is shit and show u wer to comment fot bitch that now is fuckin lost n ur on drama brian 7042989345 thats if u can even read this shit u shit
I'm not sure what the artists had in mind when they wrote the song and everyone can have thier own view on the song whether it be religious or from a drug addicts perspective which all makes sense but it could also be about abortion and the child talking to the mother from the womb and the father and mothers bad habbits. I know it sounds a little extreme but seriously think about it. I don't know. It's just a thought.
Oh come on guys! How could you misunderstand this song? He's talking about God's love, even when we wander away! "I'm sure if you wanted to stop love, you could just untie your end and let it go, but MY GOD, you don't." He's talking about God staying active in this world ("you're still sending cells to their rightful places") even when we blur the truth ("our world is grey, we're just swaying from side to side, but you don't let go, you don't"). How it be any more clear?
@jsgetz (cont'd) He's bringing up some of the sick problems of this world ("he's shooting god up his arm through a needle, she's putting cuts in her legs to bleed out the devil") and how the devil lies to us and convinces us to walk away from God ("surely you will not die" -the serpent's exact words in Genesis when he decieved Eve). How can you misinterpret something so clear? "We keep swaying from side to side, but you don't let go." Cody is talking about God's forgiveness, no doubt.
@jsgetz Dude i agree with you. It is very obvious and it is sad how some people misinterpret something so clear. In his defense, however, i guess you need some biblical knowledge (which not everyone has) to know that the lyrics "surely you will not die" is the words of the serpent in Genesis. People keep talking about the cutting and drug thing when it's a waste of time. Instead of writing a comment about it people should think things through when it's pretty clear if you take time to think.
Disclaimer: I'm not trying to bash ACB or Cody's Faith
I don't understand why people are saying that these lyrics are inspiring or uplifting. As cities burn has some of the darkest, most depressing lyrics i've ever heard. "Into The Sea," "Contact," "Made too Pretty." All have some really dark, sad lyrics.
I'm not trying to be rude, but i feel like only christians are trying to make this music uplifting. If you're not strong in you faith like me, the lyrics take on quite a different meaning.
@drinkthequicksand yo its okay if you think these lyrics are sad. becuase it is sad.
just like the song "widow" these band members had really sad past, but at the end vocalist say "thought i still love you if you told that you just walked away" to his dad walking away from his mom as soon as she got pregnant. they say they love everybody because they realize that god loves them.
"He's shooting God up his arm through a needle, and she's putting cuts on her legs to bleed out the devil. 'Surely You will not die. Eat and you shall be like God.' What have we done?"
I love how they characterize people being tempted by Satan and using direct quotes from Genesis to show this. I miss this kind of meaning in music so much.
This is definitely my favorite song by As Cities Burn. He's one of my favorite lyricists. This band has such a way with expressing an idea or an emotion. It's very inspiring as it is uplifting. We all have complex minds and are capable of deep thought and great insight, but few of us can articulate such thought and express it so profoundly. .
I think when he says "shooting God up his arms through a needle" that man is trying to find pleasure, meaning, emotional healing in the drugs he's using. The girl "putting cuts on her legs to bleed out the devil" is trying to get rid of the pain in her life by cutting. The song ponders on our darkness and how God loves us even in that.
I might be misinterpreting the other comments, but I think we might be missing the main point. The drug reference is merely a part of the song, which is probably lamenting the different things that either we idolize or do to ourselves as a kind of Flagellant punishment/cure. Because of their Christian faith, this song is probably a religious statement and an outreach to those who hurt like this.
Knowing where this band stands as far as their faith, and the obvious point they're trying to make of these things being negative, hopeless things -- its definitely saying simply that his god is his drugs...drugs have become his god
Addiction to drugs (or anything else) causes the drug to be your idol, your need, and slowly even the meaning of what you are all about...Your god.
Awesome job (Jediknight28) on this channel! You've provided me a great ACBurn playlist while I work.
@jediknight28 I think it means that he's compensating for what should be filled with God with drugs (or any other idols that end up taking God's place for that matter).
@CusK77 i don't believe it's satire... it's a metaphor... some people see drugs as their "god" and cutting legs to bleed out the devil... the devil as a metaphor for pain
@CusK77 By saying "He's shooting God up his arms in a needle" it basically symbolizes shooting up on a drug to feel better about something. Like you are getting the touch of God though you aren't.
this song is good i have to do a humen video for this like a lot of times in the city and i have to be painted gray lol! AHHH my hair! lol its worth it for God

Son I loved You At Your Darkest is like Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon to me-I have to listen to the whole thing through. They are so freakin' talented.
The good thing about this band is even though they have christian undertones, they also convey many other things that have nothing to do with it. Love, life, death, regret, and the like. They happen to mash up good and bad of christianity and life respectively. It's makes it so people can connect easier instead of just one demographic.

Awesome song, in my opinion this song is the definition of epic, but Would of prefered it with possibly just the album cover/lyrics. But you can't always have it your way.
thanks for the vid. good music. but is this a christian band? cuz on some other persons description for their vid said they are. idk cuz i just heard this band like just a few minutes ago, this is barely the second song of theirs ive heard.
Well obviously this would be much better with more diversity of pictures, instead of repeating them over and over, but it's nice to have the lyrics at least.
Defiantly DON'T agree with their views on religion.. But hey, their music is fucking awesome.

Awesome song, in my opinion this song is the definition of epic, but Would of prefered it with possibly just the album cover/lyrics. But you can't always have it your way.

Well obviously this would be much better with more diversity of pictures, instead of repeating them over and over, but it's nice to have the lyrics at least.
