i was just wondering if you know of anyone who squeezed out more than 50hp on these motors and installed it on a street legal motorcycle?? awesome job by the way on the build.
How do you keep the exhaust from breaking the manifold or breaking the bolts off in the head or just cracking the head? These engines are fragile in our trade, and we've been lucky to get one to last 6 months.
@dartcrzy71 Lakota Racing, Vogel, Mid West Super Cub, Kerber Machine all good places to snag aftermarket parts from & there are others who specialize in just cams too.
whats the deal with the blower? is that an actual belt drive super charger or is it decoration? where would you find something like this? or did you make it? But great engine, i think kohlers are one of if not the best small engines.
@LoneTreePuller did you tune the length of pipe into the y? probably do better with dual carbs so you can get the most out of both cylinders instead of a compromise
@turtlemann14 That header we didnt tune, was mainly built for good flow & yet maintain clearance for the dyno coupler on the crank & to exit out the 82 series side panel in a specific locale.
I got A ? for you . I jost rebuilt a kohler k181 30 over. It has chrome rigs how kong should it take to break them in. I have ran it for maybe 20 min and its blowing oil? I know the rings are spaced right. Can you help
That pipe was built to fit inside the engine bay of a Cub 982 & out through one small hole in the side panel. The curve under & around the crankshaft is also far enough away so it can be bolted to the dyno for tuning & not interfere with the connecting coupler
@BeboAltizer The air cleaner? Haven't used it on the dyno so I don't know yet. New engine on the way that should leave this one on the porch but that will be determined once it comes off the dyno stand.
omg i love it

i must ask why only 3,800 rpm? you would think a nice kohler engine like that could go near or above 6k?
superfunnyman123 7 months ago
@superfunnyman123 The class this one pulls in is limited to governor controlled at 3800 rpm.

Thats realy nice engine! Sounds awesome :)

MxRaCeR85b 1 year ago
@MxRaCeR85b all the parts used inside & outside the engine are factory bolt together parts that u can get from a kohler dealer.
LoneTreePuller 1 year ago
@LoneTreePuller oh, not all the outside parts are genuine kohler, that header & that air cleaner are not lol

wouldn't mind having this on my mini bike=p

looks like step tube headers too, that should help build even more torque.

@gibsonman5 It doesn't have a blower. That's an air intake

Off the charts AWSOME. Nothing beats a Kohler engine.
Is it modified a 20hp?

u need dual stacks instead of a single nice engine though

@NJSPredneck not according to the dyno sheets, 2 individual pipes hurt tq band

how do u make it run that good with the stock cam??
Joeyad4 1 year ago
@Joeyad4 dyno tests & plenty of engines built to gain more experiance.
LoneTreePuller 1 year ago
is that all the originial cams and stuff or is it upgraded
Joeyad4 1 year ago
@Joeyad4 our local group only allows unaltered factory parts for the engine manufacturer so there are no aftermarket parts in my engines
LoneTreePuller 1 year ago
I didn't know you could run a command without the cooling shroud like that. Does it run hot?
zhmapper 2 years ago
@zhmapper Naw, these aluminum engines run cooler & we can do several back to back passes down the track b4 getting concerned

BroadHead937 2 years ago
@BroadHead937
all engines do that. hopefully you honed the cylinder before you put new rings in? if not, the rings will just slide over the glaze.

Thanks Shnitzl! This engine just took home another big win last weekend, still waiting for my "Engine Builder" award from the driver!
LoneTreePuller 2 years ago
that kohler is a work of art!
ShnitzlHaus 2 years ago
also my friends tell me that my big ass exhuast was making me lose horse power
MyGta123 2 years ago
how would it make you loose power?
BeboAltizer 2 years ago
i dont know my friend is pretty fucking stupid some times so i dont ever listen to him im usualy right when we start fighting over right and wrong
MyGta123 2 years ago
lol, i know what you mean. my 2 brothers are the same way.
BeboAltizer 2 years ago
Yes, an oversized exhaust on these v-twins can cause a drop in torque
LoneTreePuller 2 years ago
how
MyGta123 2 years ago
got to have a little bit of back pressure. Also, a good collector in the header design helps, scavange effect.
LoneTreePuller 2 years ago
is that a blower cover on the carb
MyGta123 2 years ago
Naw, it's called a Hypercharger air intake for motorcycles.
LoneTreePuller 2 years ago
i would so put that in my go kart!
closthaman09 2 years ago
how much power does it have now?
BeboAltizer 2 years ago
That one came off the dyno @ 34hp
LoneTreePuller 2 years ago
wow!! do you know the torque?
BeboAltizer 2 years ago
Peak tq was at 53 ft lbs
LoneTreePuller 2 years ago
that is awesome!!!!!!!! how much did it take to make it so powerful?
BeboAltizer 2 years ago 2
omg that is a sick kohler. I need that in my mower!

what is that air cleaner ? its real cool
poon4 2 years ago
The air cleaner is called a Hypercharger from a motorcycle engine. They are available for Harley, Honda, Suzuki etc.
LoneTreePuller 2 years ago
does it add power or is it cosmetic?
BeboAltizer 2 years ago
@BeboAltizer The air cleaner? Haven't used it on the dyno so I don't know yet. New engine on the way that should leave this one on the porch but that will be determined once it comes off the dyno stand.
